1Capítulo 8 — O estado miserável dos homens antes da vinda da Palavra.

1Chapter 8 — The miserable state of men before the coming of the Word.

2Pois, quem dos homens entendeu antes de Sua vinda o que é Deus? Você aceita as doutrinas vãs e tolas daqueles que são considerados filósofos confiáveis? de quem alguns disseram que o fogo era Deus, chamando aquele Deus ao qual eles próprios estavam por vir; e um pouco de água; e outros alguns outros elementos formados por Deus.

2For, who of men at all understood before His coming what God is? Do you accept of the vain and silly doctrines of those who are deemed trustworthy philosophers? of whom some said that fire was God, calling that God to which they themselves were by and by to come; and some water; and others some other of the elements formed by God.

3Mas se qualquer uma dessas teorias for digna de aprovação, cada uma das demais coisas criadas também poderá ser declarada como sendo Deus.

3But if any one of these theories be worthy of approbation, every one of the rest of created things might also be declared to be God.

4Mas tais declarações são simplesmente declarações surpreendentes e errôneas de enganadores; e ninguém O viu, nem O deu a conhecer, mas Ele Se revelou.

4But such declarations are simply the startling and erroneous utterances of deceivers; and no man has either seen Him, or made Him known, but He has revealed Himself.

5E Ele se manifestou por meio da fé, à qual somente é dado contemplar a Deus.

5And He has manifested Himself through faith, to which alone it is given to behold God.

6Pois Deus, o Senhor e Formador de todas as coisas, que fez todas as coisas e lhes atribuiu diversas posições, provou ser não apenas um amigo da humanidade, mas também longânimo no trato com ela.

6For God, the Lord and Fashioner of all things, who made all things, and assigned them their several positions, proved Himself not merely a friend of mankind, but also long-suffering in His dealings with them.

7Sim, Ele sempre teve esse caráter, e ainda é, e sempre será, gentil e bom, e livre de ira, e verdadeiro, e o único que é absolutamente bom; e Ele formou em Sua mente uma concepção grande e indescritível, que Ele comunicou somente a Seu Filho.

7Yea, He was always of such a character, and still is, and will ever be, kind and good, and free from wrath, and true, and the only one who is absolutely good; and He formed in His mind a great and unspeakable conception, which He communicated to His Son alone.

8Enquanto, então, Ele manteve e preservou Seu próprio sábio conselho em sigilo, Ele pareceu nos negligenciar e não se importar conosco.

8As long, then, as He held and preserved His own wise counsel in concealment, He appeared to neglect us, and to have no care over us.

9Mas depois que Ele revelou e revelou, por meio de Seu Filho amado, as coisas que haviam sido preparadas desde o princípio, Ele conferiu todas as bênçãos de uma só vez sobre nós, para que pudéssemos compartilhar Seus benefícios e ver e ser ativos em Seu serviço.

9But after He revealed and laid open, through His beloved Son, the things which had been prepared from the beginning, He conferred every blessing all at once upon us, so that we should both share in His benefits, and see and be active in His service.

10Quem de nós jamais esperaria essas coisas? Ele estava ciente, então, de todas as coisas em Sua própria mente, junto com Seu Filho, de acordo com a relação que existia entre elas.

10Who of us would ever have expected these things? He was aware, then, of all things in His own mind, along with His Son, according to the relation subsisting between them.
