1Capítulo 7 — A manifestação de Cristo.

1Chapter 7 — The manifestation of Christ.

2Pois, como eu disse, esta não foi uma mera invenção terrena que foi entregue a eles, nem é um mero sistema humano de opinião, que eles julgam ser correto preservar tão cuidadosamente, nem uma dispensação de meros mistérios humanos foi confiada a eles, mas verdadeiramente o próprio Deus, que é todo-poderoso, o Criador de todas as coisas, e invisível, enviou do céu, e colocou entre os homens, Aquele que é a verdade, e a Palavra santa e incompreensível, e O estabeleceu firmemente em seus corações.

2For, as I said, this was no mere earthly invention which was delivered to them, nor is it a mere human system of opinion, which they judge it right to preserve so carefully, nor has a dispensation of mere human mysteries been committed to them, but truly God Himself, who is almighty, the Creator of all things, and invisible, has sent from heaven, and placed among men, Him who is the truth, and the holy and incomprehensible Word, and has firmly established Him in their hearts.

3Ele não enviou, como se poderia imaginar, aos homens qualquer servo, ou anjo, ou governante, ou qualquer um daqueles que dominam as coisas terrenas, ou um daqueles a quem o governo das coisas nos céus foi confiado, mas o próprio Criador e Formador de todas as coisas - por quem Ele fez os céus - por quem ele cercou o mar dentro de seus próprios limites - cujas ordenanças todas as estrelas observam fielmente - de quem o sol recebeu a medida de seu curso diário a ser observado - a quem a lua obedece, sendo ordenada a brilhar durante a noite, e a quem as estrelas também obedecem, seguindo a lua em seu curso; por quem todas as coisas foram organizadas e colocadas dentro de seus devidos limites, e a quem todas estão sujeitas - os céus e as coisas que neles há, a terra e as coisas que nele há, o mar e as coisas que nele há - o fogo, o ar e o abismo - as coisas que estão nas alturas, as coisas que estão nas profundezas e as coisas que estão entre eles.

3He did not, as one might have imagined, send to men any servant, or angel, or ruler, or any one of those who bear sway over earthly things, or one of those to whom the government of things in the heavens has been entrusted, but the very Creator and Fashioner of all things—by whom He made the heavens—by whom he enclosed the sea within its proper bounds—whose ordinances all the stars faithfully observe—from whom the sun has received the measure of his daily course to be observed— whom the moon obeys, being commanded to shine in the night, and whom the stars also obey, following the moon in her course; by whom all things have been arranged, and placed within their proper limits, and to whom all are subject—the heavens and the things that are therein, the earth and the things that are therein, the sea and the things that are therein—fire, air, and the abyss—the things which are in the heights, the things which are in the depths, and the things which lie between.

4Este mensageiro Ele enviou a eles.

4This messenger He sent to them.

5Foi então, como se poderia imaginar, com o propósito de exercer a tirania ou de inspirar medo e terror? De forma alguma, mas sob a influência da clemência e da mansidão.

5Was it then, as one might conceive, for the purpose of exercising tyranny, or of inspiring fear and terror? By no means, but under the influence of clemency and meekness.

6Assim como um rei envia seu filho, que também é rei, assim Ele o enviou; como Deus Ele o enviou; quanto aos homens, Ele o enviou; como um Salvador, Ele O enviou, e como uma tentativa de persuadir, não de nos obrigar; pois a violência não tem lugar no caráter de Deus.

6As a king sends his son, who is also a king, so sent He Him; as God He sent Him; as to men He sent Him; as a Saviour He sent Him, and as seeking to persuade, not to compel us; for violence has no place in the character of God.

7Ao nos chamar, Ele o enviou, não nos perseguindo de forma vingativa; como nos amando, Ele O enviou, não como nos julgando.

7As calling us He sent Him, not as vengefully pursuing us; as loving us He sent Him, not as judging us.

8Pois Ele ainda O enviará para nos julgar, e quem suportará Sua aparição? (…) Você não os vê expostos a feras, para que sejam persuadidos a negar o Senhor e ainda assim não sejam vencidos? Você não vê que quanto mais deles são punidos, maior se torna o número dos demais? Isto não parece ser obra do homem: este é o poder de Deus; estas são as evidências de Sua manifestação.

8For He will yet send Him to judge us, and who shall endure His appearing? … Do you not see them exposed to wild beasts, that they may be persuaded to deny the Lord, and yet not overcome? Do you not see that the more of them are punished, the greater becomes the number of the rest? This does not seem to be the work of man: this is the power of God; these are the evidences of His manifestation.
