Epístola a Diogneto 12

1Capítulo 12 — A importância do conhecimento para a verdadeira vida espiritual.

1Chapter 12 — The importance of knowledge to true spiritual life.

2Quando você tiver lido e ouvido atentamente essas coisas, você saberá o que Deus concede àqueles que O amam corretamente, sendo feitos como vocês são um paraíso de deleite, apresentando em si mesmos uma árvore que produz todos os tipos de produtos e floresce bem, sendo adornada com vários frutos.

2When you have read and carefully listened to these things, you shall know what God bestows on such as rightly love Him, being made as ye are a paradise of delight, presenting in yourselves a tree bearing all kinds of produce and flourishing well, being adorned with various fruits.

3Porque neste lugar foram plantadas a árvore do conhecimento e a árvore da vida; mas não é a árvore do conhecimento que destrói – é a desobediência que se mostra destrutiva.

3For in this place the tree of knowledge and the tree of life have been planted; but it is not the tree of knowledge that destroys— it is disobedience that proves destructive.

4Nem verdadeiramente são sem significado aquelas palavras que estão escritas, como Deus desde o princípio plantou a árvore da vida no meio do paraíso, revelando através do conhecimento o caminho para a vida, e quando aqueles que foram formados primeiro não usaram este conhecimento adequadamente, eles foram, através da fraude da Serpente, despidos.

4Nor truly are those words without significance which are written, how God from the beginning planted the tree of life in the midst of paradise, revealing through knowledge the way to life, and when those who were first formed did not use this knowledge properly, they were, through the fraud of the Serpent, stripped naked.

5Pois nem pode a vida existir sem conhecimento, nem o conhecimento é seguro sem vida.

5For neither can life exist without knowledge, nor is knowledge secure without life.

6Portanto, ambos foram plantados próximos um do outro.

6Wherefore both were planted close together.

7O Apóstolo, percebendo a força desta conjunção, e culpando aquele conhecimento que, sem a verdadeira doutrina, é admitido como influenciador da vida, declara: “O conhecimento incha, mas o amor edifica”.

7The Apostle, perceiving the force of this conjunction, and blaming that knowledge which, without true doctrine, is admitted to influence life, declares, "Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth".

8Pois aquele que pensa que sabe alguma coisa sem o verdadeiro conhecimento, e tal como é testemunhado pela vida, nada sabe, mas é enganado pela Serpente, por não amar a vida.

8For he who thinks he knows anything without true knowledge, and such as is witnessed to by life, knows nothing, but is deceived by the Serpent, as not loving life.

9Mas quem combina o conhecimento com o medo, e procura a vida, planta na esperança, à procura de frutos.

9But he who combines knowledge with fear, and seeks after life, plants in hope, looking for fruit.

10Deixe seu coração ser sua sabedoria; e deixe sua vida ser o verdadeiro conhecimento recebido interiormente.

10Let your heart be your wisdom; and let your life be true knowledge inwardly received.

11Carregando esta árvore e exibindo seus frutos, você sempre colherá aquelas coisas que são desejadas por Deus, que a Serpente não pode alcançar e às quais o engano não se aproxima; nem Eva é então corrompida, mas é confiável como uma virgem; e a salvação é manifestada, e os Apóstolos estão cheios de entendimento, e a Páscoa do Senhor avança, e os coros estão reunidos, e são organizados na devida ordem, e a Palavra se alegra em ensinar os santos, - por quem o Pai é glorificado: a quem seja glória para sempre, Amém.

11Bearing this tree and displaying its fruit, thou shalt always gather in those things which are desired by God, which the Serpent cannot reach, and to which deception does not approach; nor is Eve then corrupted, but is trusted as a virgin; and salvation is manifested, and the Apostles are filled with understanding, and the Passover of the Lord advances, and the choirs are gathered together, and are arranged in proper order, and the Word rejoices in teaching the saints,—by whom the Father is glorified: to whom be glory for ever, Amen.
