Didaquê 1

1Há dois caminhos, um da vida e um da morte, e uma grande diferença entre os dois caminhos.

1There are two ways, one of life and one of death, and a great difference between the two ways.

2O caminho da vida é este: Primeiro, amarás a Deus que te criou; segundo, amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo, e não farás a outro o que não queres que seja feito a ti.

2The way of life is this: First, you shall love God who created you; second, you shall love your neighbor as yourself, and you shall not do to another what you do not want done to you.

3E destes dizeres o ensinamento é este: Abençoai aqueles que vos amaldiçoam, e orai por vossos inimigos, e jejuai por aqueles que vos perseguem.

3And of these sayings the teaching is this: Bless those who curse you, and pray for your enemies, and fast for those who persecute you.

4Pois que recompensa há em amar aqueles que vos amam? Não fazem os gentios o mesmo? Mas amai aqueles que vos odeiam, e não tereis inimigo.

4For what reward is there in loving those who love you? Do not the gentiles do the same? But love those who hate you, and you shall have no enemy.

5Abstém-te das paixões carnais e mundanas. Se alguém te esbofetear na face direita, oferece-lhe também a outra, e serás perfeito.

5Abstain from fleshly and worldly passions. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, offer him the other also, and you shall be perfect.

6Se alguém te obrigar a caminhar uma milha, vai com ele duas. Se alguém tirar a tua capa, dá-lhe também a tua túnica.

6If someone compels you to go one mile, go with him two. If someone takes your cloak, give him your tunic also.

7Se alguém tomar o que é teu, não o peças de volta, pois na verdade não és capaz.

7If someone takes what is yours, do not ask for it back, for indeed you are not able.

8Dá a todo aquele que te pede, e não peças de volta; pois o Pai deseja que a todos se dê de nossas próprias bênçãos.

8Give to everyone who asks of you, and do not ask for it back; for the Father desires that all should be given from our own blessings.

9Bem-aventurado aquele que dá segundo o mandamento, pois é inocente. Ai daquele que recebe; pois se alguém recebe tendo necessidade, é inocente; mas aquele que recebe não tendo necessidade pagará a penalidade.

9Blessed is he who gives according to the commandment, for he is innocent. Woe to him who receives; for if anyone receives having need, he is innocent; but he who receives not having need shall pay the penalty.

10Também foi dito: Que as tuas esmolas suem nas tuas mãos, até que saibas a quem deves dar.

10Also it was said: Let your alms sweat in your hands, until you know to whom you should give.
