1Abgaro, bem-aventurado és tu, porquanto crestes em mim, sem que me tenhas visto.

1Abgarus, you are happy, forasmuch as you have believed on me, whom ye have not seen.

2Pois está escrito a meu respeito que aqueles que me viram não creriam em mim, para que aqueles que não me viram cressem e vivessem.

2For it is written concerning me, that those who have seen me should not believe on me, that they who have not seen might believe and live.

3Quanto àquela parte de tua carta em que me pedes que vá ter contigo, cumpre informar-te que me é mister cumprir todas as coisas para as quais fui enviado nesta terra, e, depois de cumpri-las, ser recolhido àquele que me enviou.

3As to that part of your letter, which relates to my giving you a visit, I must inform you, that I must fulfil all the ends of my mission in this country, and after that be received up again to him who sent me.

4Mas, depois de minha ascensão, enviar-te-ei um dos meus discípulos, o qual curará a tua enfermidade e dará vida a ti e a todos os que estão contigo.

4But after my ascension I will send one of my disciples, who will cure your disease, and give life to you, and all that are with you.
