Consumação de Tomé 1

1Consumação do Apóstolo Tomé: Por ordem do Rei Misdeus, o abençoado Apóstolo Tomé foi lançado na prisão; e ele disse: Eu glorifico a Deus, e pregarei a palavra aos presos, para que todos se alegrassem com a sua presença.

1Consummation of Thomas the Apostle: At the command of King Misdeus the blessed Apostle Thomas was cast into prison; and he said: I glorify God, and I shall preach the word to the prisoners, so that all rejoiced at his presence.

2Quando, portanto, Juzanes, o filho do rei, e Tertia, sua mãe, e Mygdonia, e Markia, se tornaram crentes, mas ainda não eram considerados dignos do batismo, eles ficaram extremamente doentes porque o abençoado havia sido trancado.

2When, therefore, Juzanes the king's son, and Tertia his mother, and Mygdonia, and Markia, had become believers, but were not yet thought worthy of baptism, they took it exceedingly ill that the blessed one had been shut up.

3E, tendo chegado à prisão e dado muito dinheiro ao carcereiro, foram ter com ele.

3And having come to the prison, and given much money to the jailor, they went in to him.

4E ele, vendo-os, alegrou-se, e glorificou ao Senhor, e abençoou-os.

4And he, seeing them, was glad, and glorified the Lord, and blessed them.

5E eles imploraram e imploraram o selo no Senhor, um belo jovem tendo aparecido a eles em sonho, e ordenou que o apóstolo entrasse na casa de Juzanes.

5And they entreated and begged the seal in the Lord, a beautiful young man having appeared to them in a dream, and ordered the apostle into the house of Juzanes.

6E novamente o belo jovem vindo até eles e Thomas, ordenou-lhes que fizessem isso na noite seguinte.

6And again the beautiful young man coming to them and Thomas, bade them do this on the coming night.

7E ele correu adiante deles, e deu-lhes luz no caminho, e sem barulho abriu as portas que estavam trancadas, até que todo o mistério se completasse.

7And he ran before them, and gave them light on the way, and without noise opened the doors that had been secured, until all the mystery was completed.

8E tendo-os feito comunicar na Eucaristia, e tendo falado muito com eles, e confirmado-os na fé, e encomendado-os ao Senhor, saiu dali, deixando as mulheres, e novamente foi calar a boca.

8And having made them communicate in the Eucharist, and having talked much with them, and confirmed them in the faith, and commended them to the Lord, he went forth thence, leaving the women, and again went to be shut up.

9E eles ficaram tristes e choraram porque Misdeus, o rei, iria matá-lo.

9And they grieved and wept because Misdeus the king was to kill him.

10E Tomé foi e encontrou os carcereiros brigando e dizendo: Que mal fizemos àquele feiticeiro, que, valendo-se de sua arte mágica, abriu as portas da prisão e deseja libertar todos os prisioneiros? Mas vamos contar ao rei sobre sua esposa e seu filho.

10And Thomas went and found the jailors fighting, and saying: What wrong have we done to that sorcerer, that, availing himself of his magic art, he has opened the doors of the prison, and wishes to set all the prisoners free? But let us go and let the king know about his wife and his son.

11E quando ele chegou, despiram-no e cingiram-no com um cinto; e assim eles ficaram diante do rei.

11And when he came they stripped him, and girded him with a girdle; and thus they stood before the king.

12E Misdeus lhe disse: Tu és escravo ou homem livre? E Tomé respondeu e disse-lhe: Não sou escravo e tu não tens nenhum poder contra mim.

12And Misdeus said to him: Art thou a slave, or a freeman? And Thomas answered and said to him: I am not a slave, and thou hast no power against me at all.

13E como, disse Misdeus, você fugiu e veio para este país? E Tomé disse: Vim aqui para salvar muitos e para que pelas tuas mãos eu possa sair deste corpo.

13And how, said Misdeus, hast thou run away and come to this country? And Thomas said: I came here that I might save many, and that I might by thy hands depart from this body.

14Misdeus lhe diz: Quem é o teu mestre? e qual é o nome dele? e de que país, e de quem ele é? Meu Senhor, diz Tomé, é meu Mestre e teu, sendo o Senhor do céu e da terra.

14Misdeus says to him: Who is thy master? and what is his name? and of what country, and of whom is he? My Lord, says Thomas, is my Master and thine, being the Lord of heaven and earth.

15E Misdeus disse: Como ele se chama? E Tomé disse: Tu não podes saber Seu verdadeiro nome neste momento; mas eu te digo o nome que lhe foi dado por um tempo: Jesus, o Cristo.

15And Misdeus said: What is he called? And Thomas said: Thou canst not know His true name at this time; but I tell thee the name that has been given Him for a season—Jesus the Christ.

16E Misdeus disse: Não tive pressa em te destruir, mas me contive; mas tu fizeste uma exibição de obras, de modo que as tuas feitiçarias foram ouvidas em todo o país.

16And Misdeus said: I have not been in a hurry to destroy thee, but have restrained myself; but thou hast made a display of works, so that thy sorceries have been heard of in all the country.

17Mas agora farei isto, para que as tuas feitiçarias também pereçam contigo, para que a nossa nação seja purificada delas.

17But now this will I do, that thy sorceries may also perish with thee, that our nation may be purified from them.

18E Tomé disse: Chamas estas coisas que me seguirão de feitiçarias? Eles nunca serão removidos das pessoas aqui.

18And Thomas said: Dost thou call these things which will follow me sorceries? They shall never be removed from the people here.

19E enquanto estas coisas diziam, Misdeus pensava em como deveria matá-lo; pois ele estava com medo da multidão que estava ao redor, muitos, até mesmo alguns dos principais homens, tendo acreditado nele.

19And while these things were saying, Misdeus was considering in what manner he should put him to death; for he was afraid of the multitude standing round, many, even some of the chief men, having believed in him.

20E ele se levantou e levou Tomé para fora da cidade; e alguns soldados o acompanharam com as armas.

20And he arose, and took Thomas outside of the city; and a few soldiers accompanied him with their arms.

21E o resto da multidão pensou que o rei desejava aprender alguma coisa com ele; e eles se levantaram e o observaram de perto.

21And the rest of the multitude thought that the king was wishing to learn something from him; and they stood and observed him closely.

22E quando eles avançaram três estádios, ele o entregou a quatro soldados e a um dos oficiais principais, e ordenou-lhes que o levassem para a montanha e o lançassem com uma lança; mas ele próprio voltou para a cidade.

22And when they had gone forth three stadia, he delivered him to four soldiers, and to one of the chief officers, and ordered them to take him up into the mountain and spear him; but he himself returned to the city.

23E os presentes correram para Tomé, ansiosos por resgatá-lo; mas ele foi levado pelos soldados que estavam com ele.

23And those present ran to Thomas, eager to rescue him; but he was led away by the soldiers who were with him.

24Pois havia dois de cada lado que o seguravam por causa de feitiçaria.

24For there were two on each side having hold of him, because of sorcery.

25E o oficial chefe segurou-o pela mão e conduziu-o com honra.

25And the chief officer held him by the hand, and led him with honour.

26E ao mesmo tempo o abençoado apóstolo disse: Ó mistérios ocultos de Ti, ó Senhor! pois até o fim da vida se cumprem em nós as riquezas da Tua graça, que não nos permite ficar sem sentimentos quanto ao corpo.

26And at the same time the blessed apostle said: O the hidden mysteries of Thee, O Lord! for even to the close of life is fulfilled in us the riches of Thy grace, which does not allow us to be without feeling as to the body.

27Pois eis que quatro me agarraram, e um me conduz, pois pertenço a Um, para quem vou sempre invisivelmente.

27For, behold, four have laid hold of me, and one leads me, since I belong to One, to whom I am going always invisibly.

28Mas agora aprendo que meu Senhor também, por ser um estranho, para quem vou, que também está sempre presente comigo de forma invisível, foi atingido por um; mas estou impressionado com quatro.

28But now I learn that my Lord also, since He was a stranger, to whom I am going, who also is always present with me invisibly, was struck by one; but I am struck by four.

29E quando eles chegaram ao lugar onde deveriam trespassá-lo, Tomé falou assim aos que o lançavam: Ouçam-me agora, pelo menos, quando eu estiver saindo do meu corpo; e não se escureçam os vossos olhos no entendimento, nem fechem os vossos ouvidos, para não ouvirem aquelas coisas em que crestes no Deus a quem eu prego, depois de terdes sido libertos em vossas almas da temeridade; e comportar-se de maneira a tornar-se quem é livre, desprovido de glória humana, e viver a vida voltada para Deus.

29And when they came to that place where they were to spear him, Thomas spoke thus to those spearing him: Hear me now, at least, when I am departing from my body; and let not your eyes be darkened in understanding, nor your ears shut up so as not to hear those things in which you have believed the God whom I preach, after being delivered in your souls from rashness; and behave in a manner becoming those who are free, being void of human glory, and live the life towards God.

30E disse a Juzanes: Filho de um rei terreno, mas servo de Jesus Cristo, dá o que é devido àqueles que devem cumprir a ordem de Misdeus, para que eu me afaste deles e ore.

30And he said to Juzanes: Son of an earthly king, but servant of Jesus Christ, give what is due to those who are to fulfil the command of Misdeus, in order that I may go apart from them and pray.

31E Juzanes, tendo pago os soldados, o apóstolo pôs-se a orar; e foi o seguinte: - Meu Senhor, e meu Deus, e esperança, e líder, e guia em todos os países, eu Te sigo junto com todos os que Te servem, e Tu me guia neste dia em meu caminho para Ti.

31And Juzanes having paid the soldiers, the apostle betook himself to prayer; and it was as follows:— My Lord, and my God, and hope, and leader, and guide in all countries, I follow Thee along with all that serve Thee, and do Thou guide me this day on my way to Thee.

32Que ninguém tome a minha alma, que me deste.

32Let no one take my soul, which Thou hast given to me.

33Que os publicanos e os mendigos não olhem para mim, nem que as serpentes me caluniem, e que os filhos do dragão não sibilem para mim.

33Let not publicans and beggars look upon me, nor let serpents slander me, and let not the children of the dragon hiss at me.

34Eis que cumpri Tua obra e realizei o que Tu me deste para fazer.

34Behold, I have fulfilled Thy work, and accomplished what Thou gavest me to do.

35Tornei-me um escravo para poder receber de Ti a liberdade; então dê-mo e torne-me perfeito.

35I have become a slave, that I might receive freedom from Thee; do then give it to me, and make me perfect.

36E isto digo não vacilando, mas para que ouçam quem precisa ouvir.

36And this I say not wavering, but that they may hear who need to hear.

37Eu te glorifico em tudo, Senhor e Mestre; pois a Ti é devida glória para sempre, Amém.

37I glorify Thee in all, Lord and Master; for to Thee is due glory for ever, Amen.

38E depois de orar, disse aos soldados: Vinde e acabai a obra daquele que vos enviou.

38And when he had prayed, he said to the soldiers: Come and finish the work of him that sent you.

39E os quatro o atacaram imediatamente e o mataram.

39And the four struck him at once, and killed him.

40E todos os irmãos choraram e envolveram-no em lindos xales e em muitos panos de linho, e o colocaram no túmulo em que antigamente os reis costumavam ser enterrados.

40And all the brethren wept, and wrapped him up in beautiful shawls, and many linen cloths, and laid him in the tomb in which of old the kings used to be buried.

41E Syphor e Juzanes não foram para a cidade, mas passaram o dia inteiro lá, e esperaram durante a noite.

41And Syphor and Juzanes did not go to the city, but spent the whole day there, and waited during the night.

42E Tomé apareceu-lhes e disse: Eu não estou aí; por que você fica sentado assistindo? porque subi e recebi as coisas que esperava; mas levante-se e ande, e depois de pouco tempo você será trazido ao meu lado.

42And Thomas appeared to them, and said: I am not there; why do you sit watching? for I have gone up, and received the things I hoped for; but rise up and walk, and after no long time you shall be brought beside me.

43E Misdeus e Charisius afligiram grandemente Tertia e Mygdonia, mas não os persuadiram a abandonar as suas opiniões.

43And Misdeus and Charisius greatly afflicted Tertia and Mygdonia, but did not persuade them to abandon their opinions.

44E Tomé apareceu e disse-lhes: Não esqueçais as coisas anteriores, pois o próprio santo e santificador Jesus vos ajudará.

44And Thomas appeared, and said to them: Forget not the former things, for the holy and sanctifying Jesus Himself will aid you.

45E Misdeus e Charisius, quando não conseguiram persuadi-los a não serem desta opinião, concederam-lhes a sua própria vontade.

45And Misdeus and Charisius, when they could not persuade them not to be of this opinion, granted them their own will.

46E todos os irmãos se reuniram, pois o bem-aventurado havia feito Síforo presbítero na montanha, e Juzânio diácono, quando ele foi levado para morrer.

46And all the brethren assembled together, for the blessed one had made Syphorus a presbyter in the mountain, and Juzanius a deacon, when he was led away to die.

47E o Senhor os ajudou e aumentou a fé por meio deles.

47And the Lord helped them, and increased the faith by means of them.

48E depois de muito tempo, aconteceu que um dos filhos de Misdeus era um endemoninhado; e sendo o demônio teimoso, ninguém foi capaz de curá-lo.

48And after a long time, it happened that one of the sons of Misdeus was a demoniac; and the demon being stubborn, no one was able to heal him.

49E Misdeus considerou e disse: Eu irei e abrirei o túmulo, e pegarei um osso do corpo do apóstolo, e tocarei meu filho com ele, e eu sei que ele será curado.

49And Misdeus considered, and said: I shall go and open the tomb, and take a bone of the apostle's body, and touch my son with it, and I know that he will be healed.

50E ele foi fazer o que havia pensado.

50And he went to do what he had thought of.

51E o bem-aventurado apóstolo apareceu-lhe e disse: Tu não acreditaste em mim quando vivia; como você acreditará em mim quando eu estiver morto? Não tema.

51And the blessed apostle appeared to him, and said: Thou didst not believe in me when alive; how wilt thou believe in me when I am dead? Fear not.

52Jesus Cristo está gentilmente disposto a ti, através de Sua grande clemência.

52Jesus Christ is kindly disposed to thee, through His great clemency.

53E Misdeus, quando não encontrou os ossos (pois um dos irmãos os havia levado e levado para as regiões do Ocidente), pegou um pouco de pó de onde os ossos estavam, e com ele tocou seu filho, e disse: Eu creio em Ti, Jesus, agora que ele me deixou, que sempre aflige os homens, para que eles não olhem para Tua luz que dá entendimento, ó Senhor, gentil com os homens.

53And Misdeus, when he did not find the bones (for one of the brethren had taken them, and carried them into the regions of the West), took some dust from where the bones had lain, and touched his son with it, and said: I believe in Thee, Jesus, now when he has left me who always afflicts men, that they may not look to Thy light which giveth understanding, O Lord, kind to men.

54E sendo seu filho curado dessa maneira, ele se encontrou com o restante dos irmãos que estavam sob o governo de Síforo e implorou aos irmãos que orassem por ele, para que ele pudesse obter misericórdia de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; a quem seja a glória para todo o sempre, Amém.

54And his son being healed in this manner, he met with the rest of the brethren who were under the rule of Syphorus, and entreated the brethren to pray for him, that he might obtain mercy from our Lord Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever, Amen.
