Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 33

1O tropeiro, como que ordenado pela voz divina, acolheu com júbilo as donzelas e seguiu caminho rejubilando-se no Senhor.

1The ass-driver, as if commanded by the voice of God, eagerly receiving the maidens, went on his way rejoicing in the Lord.

2E disse a Polixena: Muda os teus trajes para vestes masculinas, para que ninguém te arrebate de mim por causa da tua formosura.

2And he said to Polyxena, Alter your appearance to that of a man, lest for your beauty's sake some one snatch you away from me.

3Chegando a uma estalagem pernoitaram ali; e na manhã seguinte prosseguiram viagem com vigilância.

3And coming to an inn, they stayed there, and on the morrow they went forward taking heed to the way.

4E eis que passava por ali certo prefeito que viajava para a Grécia, o qual, avistando as donzelas, mandou arrebatar Polixena para o seu carro.

4And behold there came past a certain prefect journeying to Greece, who seeing the maidens ordered Polyxena to be carried off on his chariot.

5Seguiu o tropeiro atrás do carro, clamando e dizendo: Um magistrado a ninguém faz violência!

5Then the ass-driver followed, crying and saying, A prefect does violence to none.

6Por que fazeis isto?

6Why do ye this?

7Eles, porém, espancaram-no e expulsaram-no dali.

7Then they beat him and drove him away.
