Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 18

1Disse então o sábio Barando: Pela graça de Deus declararei o que foi enviado ao mundo pelo Senhor.

1Then the wise Barandus said, By the grace of God I shall tell the things sent into the world by the Lord.

2O rei que viste é o Diabo; a multidão dos seus servos são os demônios, e as gentes ao seu redor são os idólatras.

2The king whom you saw is the Devil, and the multitudes of his servants are the demons, and the throngs about him are they that worship the gods.

3Julgando não ter sucessor, não contava com o advento de Cristo.

3Whereas he thought to have no successor, he looked not for the coming of Christ.

4O corvo indicava a fraqueza de seu reino, pois o corvo não obedeceu ao justo Noé, mas amava coisas lastimáveis.

4The raven betokened the weakness of his kingdom, for the raven kept not obedience to the righteous Noah, but loved pitiful things.

5A águia que surgiu, despojou o seu império e levou-o ao céu, e o Protetor que acudiu com o cajado, é o Senhor Jesus Cristo, que lhes legou o Seu cajado sagrado, isto é, a Sua preciosa cruz; e o lavar os que a Ele acudiam representa a armadura invulnerável do batismo, pelo qual jamais foram derrotados.

5The eagle that arose and took away his kingdom and carried it up into heaven, and that there came a protector of those that fled to the eagle, having a staff, that is the Lord Jesus Christ, who left to them his staff, that is, his precious cross; and that he washed those that fled to him signifies the invulnerable breast-plate of baptism, and therefore they were not overcome.

6Os homens valorosos enviados pelo mundo com a cruz são os arautos de Deus, como Paulo que agora habita entre nós, contra os quais aquele rei nada pode.

6The capable men sent into the world with the cross are the preachers of God like Paul who is now with us, against whom that king has no power.

7Isto te foi dado a conhecer porque Deus tem, de algum modo, compaixão até daqueles que têm dificuldade em crer.

7This was made known to you because even on those who are hard of belief God has compassion in some way.

8Vê, pois, se poderás causar dano a Paulo ainda que o intentes, pois o Senhor te patenteou o poder soberano que o guarda.

8See therefore whether even you will be able to injure Paul though you desire, for the mighty power that shields him has been shown you by the Lord.

9Compreende o que te foi dito por mim e não sirvas mais àquele príncipe das trevas; pois assim como viste o seu reino desvanecer-se, assim perecerão com ele todos os seus sequazes.

9Therefore, understand what has been said to you by me, and serve not that king of darkness, for as you saw his kingdom vanish away, so shall all his servants perish with him.

10Vem, pois, meu senhor, vamos a Paulo e recebamos o batismo de suas mãos, para que Satanás não exerça domínio sobre nós.

10Come now, therefore, my Lord, let us go to Paul and receive baptism from him, lest Satan have mastery over us also.

11Disse Probo: Vamos primeiro a Xantipa para ver se ela ainda vive, pois há vinte e nove dias não prova sustento algum; vi o seu semblante ao entardecer, e parecia alguém prestes a expirar.

11Probus said, Let us first go to Xanthippe and see whether she still lives, for behold there are twenty-nine days since she has tasted anything; for I saw her face in the evening, and it was as of one prepared to depart.
