Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 16

1E enquanto ela assim falava, o Senhor ocultou-Se novamente à sua vista; e Xantipa, voltando a si, disse: Ai de mim desventurada, que ninguém me ensinou qual é o agradecimento devido pelos servos a seu Senhor!

1And as she spoke thus the Lord was again hidden from her, and Xanthippe, coming to herself, said, Woe is me wretched one, that no one has told me what is the gratitude of slaves towards their master.

2Se Paulo, o pregador do Senhor, estivesse aqui, que louvores não Lhe tributaria?

2If Paul the preacher of the Lord were here, how could he give praise?

3Mas talvez diante de tais favores e dons eles se calem, tomados apenas por lágrimas, pois não é possível louvar dignamente alguém de acordo com o favor que concede.

3But perchance in the face of such favors and gifts they are silent, possessed only with tears, for it is not possible worthily to praise any one according to his favour.

4Dizendo isto, sobreveio-lhe grande fraqueza pela falta de alimento, pois tomada pelo ardente anelo de Cristo esquecera-se de nutrir o corpo.

4Saying this she was seized with great faintness from lack of food, for having been strongly possessed with desire for Christ she had forgotten to take nourishment.

5Assim, grandemente extenuada pelas abstinências, pela visão celestial, pela vigília e pelas austeridades, não conseguia erguer-se do chão.

5Therefore, being greatly exhausted by abstinence and the vision and want of sleep and other austerities, she was unable to rise from the ground.
