Atos de Pedro 7

1Ora, divulgou-se o rumor pela cidade até aos irmãos que estavam dispersos por causa de Simão, a fim de que demonstrasse ser ele um enganador e perseguidor dos homens bons. Concorreu, pois, toda a multidão para ver o apóstolo do Senhor firmar os irmãos em Cristo. E, no primeiro dia da semana, congregada a multidão para ver a Pedro, começou Pedro a dizer em alta voz: Homens aqui presentes que confiais em Cristo, vós que por um pouco de tempo sofrestes tentação, aprendei por qual causa Deus enviou o seu Filho ao mundo, e por que razão o fez nascer da virgem Maria; porventura tê-lo-ia feito assim, senão para nos granjear alguma graça ou dispensação? A saber, porque queria tirar todo tropeço, toda ignorância e toda maquinação do diabo, suas investidas e sua força com que dantes prevalecia, antes que o nosso Deus resplandecesse no mundo. E, visto que os homens, por ignorância, caíam na morte por muitas e diversas enfermidades, o Deus Todo-Poderoso, movido de compaixão, enviou o seu Filho ao mundo. Com o qual eu estive; e andou sobre as águas, de que eu mesmo permaneço por testemunha, e testifico que operou então no mundo mediante sinais e maravilhas, os quais todos realizou.

1Now the report was noised through the city unto the brethren that were dispersed, because of Simon, that he might show him to be a deceiver and a persecutor of good men. All the multitude therefore ran together to see the apostle of the Lord stay (himself, or the brethren) on Christ. And on the first day of the week when the multitude was assembled to see Peter, Peter began to say with a loud voice: Ye men here present that trust in Christ, ye that for a little space have suffered temptation, learn for what cause God sent his Son into the world, and wherefore he made him to be born of the Virgin Mary; for would he so have done if not to procure us some grace or dispensation? even because he would take away all offence and all ignorance and all the contrivance of the devil, his attempts (beginnings) and his strength wherewith he prevailed aforetime, before our God shined forth in the world. And whereas men through ignorance fell into death by many and divers infirmities, Almighty God, moved with compassion, sent his Son into the world. With whom I was; and he (or I) walked upon the water, whereof I myself remain awitness, and do testify that he then worked in the world by signs and wonders, all of which he did.

2Confesso, irmãos mui amados, que estive com ele; contudo, neguei-o, a saber, a nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, e isso não uma só vez, mas três vezes; porque cães perversos me cercaram, como fizeram aos profetas do Senhor. E o Senhor não mo imputou, mas voltou-se para mim e teve compaixão da fraqueza da minha carne, de modo que depois chorei amargamente sobre mim mesmo, e lamentei a fraqueza da minha fé, por haver sido iludido pelo diabo e não me lembrar da palavra de meu Senhor. E agora vos digo, ó varões irmãos, que estais congregados no nome de Jesus Cristo: contra vós também apontou as suas flechas o enganador Satanás, para que vos desviasseis do caminho. Não desfaleçais, porém, irmãos, nem desanime o vosso espírito, mas sede fortes e perseverai e não duvideis; pois, se Satanás fez tropeçar a mim, a quem o Senhor tinha em grande honra, a ponto de eu negar a luz da minha esperança, e se ele me derrubou e me persuadiu a fugir como se eu houvera posto a minha confiança num homem, que pensais vós que fará a vós outros, que sois ainda novos na fé? Porventura supúnheis que ele não vos desviaria para vos tornar inimigos do reino de Deus, e precipitar-vos na perdição mediante um engano novo? Pois a quem quer que ele despoje da esperança de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, esse é filho da perdição para todo o sempre. Convertei-vos, pois, irmãos, eleitos do Senhor, e fortalecei-vos em Deus Todo-Poderoso, Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, a quem nenhum homem viu jamais, nem pode ver, senão aquele que nele crê. E sabei de onde vos sobreveio esta tentação. Porque não é tão somente com palavras que vos hei de convencer de que este é o Cristo a quem prego, mas também com obras e grandíssimos prodígios de poder vos exorto pela fé que há em Cristo Jesus, para que nenhum de vós espere outro senão aquele que foi desprezado e escarnecido pelos judeus, a saber, este Nazareno que foi crucificado, e morreu, e ao terceiro dia ressuscitou.

2I do confess, dearly-beloved brethren, that I was with him: yet I denied him, even our Lord Jesus Christ, and that not once only, but thrice; for there were evil dogs that were come about me as they did unto the Lord's prophets. And the Lord imputed it not unto me, but turned unto me and had compassion on the infirmity of my flesh, when (or so that) afterward I bitterly bewailed myself, and lamented the weakness of my faith, because I was befooled by the devil and kept not in mind the word of my Lord. And now I say unto you, O men and brethren, which are gathered together in the name of Jesus Christ: against you also hath the deceiver Satan aimed his arrows, that ye might depart out of the way. But faint not, brethren, neither let your spirit fall, but be strong and persevere and doubt not: for if Satan caused me to stumble, whom the Lord had in great honour, so that I denied the light of mine hope, and if he overthrew me and persuaded me to flee as if I had put my trust in a man, what think ye will he do unto you which are but young in the faith? Did ye suppose that he would not turn you away to make you enemies of the kingdom of God, and cast you down into perdition by a new (or the last) deceit? For whomsoever he casteth out from the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is a son of perdition for ever. Turn yourselves, therefore, brethren, chosen of the Lord, and be strong in God Almighty, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom no man hath seen at any time, neither can see, save he who hath believed in him. And be ye aware whence this temptation hath come upon you. For it is not only by words that I would convince you that this is Christ whom I preach, but also by deeds and exceeding great works of power do I exhort you by the faith that is in Christ Jesus, that none of you look for any other save him that was despised and mocked of the Jews, even this Nazarene which was crucified and died and the third day rose again.
