Atos de Pedro 22

1E, tendo exortado a todos a que pensassem no Senhor de todo o seu coração, começou, juntamente com Marcelo e os demais irmãos, a ministrar às virgens do Senhor, e a descansar até pela manhã.

1And having exhorted them all to think upon (understand) the Lord with their whole heart, he began together with Marcellus and the rest of the brethren to minister unto the virgins of the Lord, and to rest until the morning.

2Aos quais Marcelo disse: Vós, virgens santas e invioladas do Senhor, ouvi: Tendes um lugar para habitar, pois estas coisas que são chamadas minhas, de quem são senão vossas? Não vos aparteis daqui, mas confortai-vos; porque no sábado que vem, a saber, amanhã, Simão tem uma contenda com Pedro, o santo de Deus; pois, como o Senhor sempre esteve com ele, eis que Cristo o Senhor se porá agora por ele como seu apóstolo. Porque Pedro continuou sem nada provar, jejuando ainda mais um dia, para que possa vencer o ímpio adversário e perseguidor da verdade do Senhor. Pois eis que os meus moços vieram anunciando que viram tablados sendo levantados no fórum, e muita gente dizendo: Amanhã, ao romper do dia, dois judeus hão de contender aqui acerca da doutrina de Deus. Agora, pois, vigiemos até pela manhã, orando e suplicando a nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo que ouça as nossas orações a favor de Pedro.

2Unto whom Marcellus said: Ye holy and inviolate virgins of the Lord, hearken: Ye have a place to abide in, for these things that are called mine, whose are they save yours? depart not hence, but refresh yourselves: for upon the sabbath which cometh, even to-morrow, Simon hath a controversy with Peter the holy one of God: for as the Lord hath ever been with him, lo will Christ the Lord now stand for him as his apostle. For Peter hath continued tasting nothing, but fasting yet a day, that he may overcome the wicked adversary and persecutor of the Lord's truth. For lo, my young men are come announcing that they have seen scaffolds being set up in the forum, and much people saying: To-morrow at daybreak two Jews are to contend here concerning the teaching (?) of God. Now therefore let us watch until the morning, praying and beseeching our Lord Jesus Christ to hear our prayers on behalf of Peter.

3E Marcelo recolheu-se para dormir por um breve tempo, e acordou, e disse a Pedro: Ó Pedro, apóstolo de Cristo, vamos com ousadia àquilo que diante de nós está posto. Pois ainda há pouco, ao recolher-me para dormir um pouco, vi-te assentado num lugar alto, e diante de ti uma grande multidão, e uma mulher sobremodo torpe, com aspecto semelhante a uma etíope, não a uma egípcia, mas de todo negra e imunda, vestida de trapos, e com uma coleira de ferro em volta do seu pescoço e cadeias nas suas mãos e pés, dançando. E, quando me viste, disseste-me com grande voz: Marcelo, todo o poder de Simão e de seu Deus é esta mulher que dança; degola-a tu. E eu te disse: Irmão Pedro, sou um senador de nobre linhagem, e nunca contaminei as minhas mãos, nem matei sequer um pardal em tempo algum. E tu, ouvindo isto, começaste a clamar ainda mais: Vem tu, nossa verdadeira espada, Jesus Cristo, e corta não apenas a cabeça deste demônio, mas despedaça todos os seus membros à vista de todos estes a quem aprovei no teu serviço. E imediatamente um semelhante a ti, ó Pedro, tendo uma espada, despedaçou-a; de sorte que olhei atentamente para ambos, tanto para ti como para aquele que despedaçava aquele demônio, e maravilhei-me grandemente de ver quão semelhantes éreis. E acordei, e te contei estes sinais de Cristo. E, ouvindo isto Pedro, ficou ainda mais cheio de coragem por ter Marcelo visto estas coisas, sabendo que o Senhor sempre cuida dos seus. E, estando alegre e confortado por estas palavras, levantou-se para ir ao fórum.

3And Marcellus turned to sleep for a short space, and awoke and said unto Peter: O Peter, thou apostle of Christ, let us go boldly unto that which lieth before us. For just now when I turned myself to sleep for a little, I beheld thee sitting in a high place and before thee a great multitude, and a woman exceeding foul, in sight like an Ethiopian, not an Egyptian, but altogether black and filthy, clothed in rags, and with an iron collar about her neck and chains upon her hands and feet, dancing. And when thou sawest me thou saidst to me with a loud voice: Marcellus the whole power of Simon and of his God is this woman that danceth; do thou behead her. And I said to thee: Brother Peter, I am a senator of a high race, and I have never defiled my hands, neither killed so much as a sparrow at any time. And thou hearing it didst begin to cry out yet more: Come thou, our true sword, Jesu Christ. and cut not off only the head of this devil, but hew all her limbs in pieces in the sight of all these Whom I have approved in thy service. And immediately one like unto thee, O Peter, having a sword, hewed her in pieces: so that I looked earnestly upon you both, both on thee and on him that cut in pieces that devil, and marvelled greatly to see how alike ye were. And I awaked, and have told unto thee these signs of Christ. And when Peter heard it he was the more filled with courage, for that Marcellus had seen these things, knowing that the Lord alway careth for his own. And being joyful and refreshed by these words, he rose up to go unto the forum.
