Atos de Paulo 3

1Quando Paulo ensinava a palavra de Deus em Mira, havia ali um homem por nome Hermócrates, que tinha hidropisia, o qual se adiantou à vista de todos e disse a Paulo: Nada é impossível para Deus, mas sobremodo para aquele a quem tu pregas; porquanto quando ele veio sarou a muitos, sim, aquele Deus de quem tu és servo. Eis que eu, e minha mulher, e meus filhos, nos lançamos a teus pés; tem compaixão de mim para que eu também creia como tu tens crido no Deus vivo.

1When Paul was teaching the word of God in Myra, there was there a man, Hermocrates by name, who had the dropsy, and he put himself forward in the sight of all, and said to Paul: Nothing is impossible with God, but especially with him whom thou preachest; for when he came he healed many, even that God whose servant thou art. Lo, I and my wife and my children, we cast ourselves at thy feet: have pity on me that I also may believe as thou hast believed on the living God.

2Paulo lhe disse: Restaurar-te-ei a tua saúde não por galardão, mas pelo nome de Jesus Cristo ficarás são na presença de todos estes. E tocou-lhe o corpo, descendo a sua mão; e abriu-se-lhe o ventre e correu dele muita água, e caiu ele como morto, de sorte que alguns diziam: Melhor lhe é morrer do que continuar em dor. Mas tendo Paulo aquietado o povo, tomou-o pela mão, e o levantou, e perguntou-lhe, dizendo: Hermócrates, pede o que desejas. E ele disse: Quisera comer. E tomou um pão e deu-lhe de comer. E naquela hora ficou ele são, e recebeu a graça do selo no Senhor, ele e sua mulher.

2Paul said unto him: I will restore thee thine health not for reward, but through the name of Jesus Christ thou shalt become whole in the presence of all these. And he touched his body, drawing his hand downwards: and his belly opened and much water ran from him, and he fell down like a dead man, so that some said: It is better for him to die than to continue in pain. But when Paul had quieted the people, he took his hand and raised him up and asked him, saying: Hermocrates, ask for what thou desirest. And he said: I would eat. And he took a loaf and gave him to eat. And in that hour he was whole, and received the grace of the seal in the Lord, he and his wife.

3Mas Hermipo, seu filho, irou-se contra Paulo, e buscava tempo oportuno em que se levantasse com os de sua idade e o destruísse. Porque desejava que seu pai não sarasse, mas morresse, a fim de logo assenhorear-se de seus bens. Mas Dião, seu filho mais moço, ouvia a Paulo de bom grado.

3But Hermippus his son was angry with Paul, and sought for a set time wherein to rise up with them of his own age and destroy him. For he wished that his father should not be healed but should die, that he might soon be master of his goods. But Dion, his younger son, heard Paul gladly.

4Então todos os que estavam com Hermipo tomaram conselho para pelejar contra Paulo, para que Hermipo o matasse. Mas Dião caiu e morreu; e Hermipo regava a Dião com as suas lágrimas.

4Now all they that were with Hermippus took counsel to fight against Paul so that Hermippus might kill him. But Dion fell down and died: and Hermippus watered Dion with his tears.

5Porém Hermócrates pranteava amargamente, porquanto amava mais a Dião do que ao outro filho. Contudo assentava-se aos pés de Paulo, esquecendo-se de que Dião estava morto. Mas estando Dião morto, sua mãe Ninfa rasgou as suas vestes, e foi a Paulo, e pôs-se diante da face de Hermócrates seu marido e de Paulo.

5But Hermocrates mourned sore, for he loved Dion more than his other son. Yet he sat at Paul's feet, and forgat that Dion was dead. But when Dion was dead, his mother Nympha rent her clothes and went unto Paul and set herself before the face of Hermocrates her husband and of Paul.

6E um anjo do Senhor lhe dissera de noite: Paulo, tens hoje grande peleja na cidade; mas esforça-te e não temas, porque o Senhor é contigo.

6And an angel of the Lord had said unto him in the night: Paul, thou hast to-day a great conflict in the city: but be strong and fear not, for the Lord is with thee.

7Tendo-se levantado Paulo, foi aos seus irmãos, e permaneceu dizendo: Que significa esta visão? E falando ainda Paulo, veio Hermipo com muitos jovens, tendo uma espada desembainhada em sua mão.

7When Paul had arisen, he went unto his brethren, and remained saying: What meaneth this vision? And while Paul was speaking, Hermippus came with many young men, having a sword drawn in his hand.

8E correndo Hermipo contra Paulo com a espada desembainhada, imediatamente cessou de ver, de sorte que clamou em alta voz, dizendo: Ai de mim, que estou cego, e a minha espada caiu-me da mão! Roga por mim, Paulo, para que recobre a vista e me converta ao Deus vivo.

8And when Hermippus ran upon Paul with his sword drawn, straightway he ceased to see, so that he cried out aloud, saying: Woe is me, for I am blinded, and my sword hath fallen from my hand! Pray for me, Paul, that I may receive my sight and turn to the living God.

9E Paulo orou por ele, e os olhos de Hermipo foram abertos, e creu no Senhor Jesus Cristo, e toda a sua casa foi salva.

9And Paul prayed for him, and the eyes of Hermippus were opened, and he believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, and all the household was saved.

10E havendo Paulo confirmado os irmãos que estavam em Mira, partiu para Sídon.

10And when Paul had confirmed the brethren that were in Myra, he departed unto Sidon.
