Atos de Paulo 1

1Entrou Paulo na casa onde jazia a criança morta. Mas Fila, mulher de Pâncares, indignou-se em extremo e disse a seu marido com grande ira: Marido, foste atrás das feras, não geraste o teu filho; onde está o meu?

1Paul went into the house at the place where the dead child was. But Phila the wife of Panchares was very wroth and said to her husband in great anger: Husband, thou hast gone after the wild beasts, thou hast not begotten thy son, where is mine?

2Não desejou ele alimento até sepultá-lo. Mas Pâncares pôs-se em pé à vista de todos e fez a sua oração à hora nona, até que o povo da cidade veio para levar o moço. Havendo ele orado, veio Paulo e viu o moço, e orou em nome de Jesus Cristo.

2He hath not desired food to bury him. But Panchares stood in the sight of all and made his prayer at the ninth hour, until the people of the city came to bear the boy out. When he had prayed, Paul came and saw the boy, and prayed in the name of Jesus Christ.

3E tendo-se ajuntado a multidão por oito dias, julgaram que ele havia ressuscitado o moço. Mas Paulo permaneceu pregando-lhes a palavra de Deus.

3And when the multitude had gathered for eight days, they thought that he raised up the boy. But Paul remained preaching unto them the word of God.

4Interrogaram-no, e os homens o ouviam; e mandaram chamar a Pâncares e clamavam, dizendo: Cremos, Pâncares, mas salva a cidade de muitas coisas. Pâncares lhes disse: Julgai vós se as vossas obras são boas.

4They asked him, and the men listened to him: and they sent for Panchares, and cried out, saying: We believe, Panchares, but save the city from many things. Panchares said unto them: Judge ye whether your deeds be good.

5Eu também creio, meus irmãos, que não há outro Deus, senão Jesus Cristo, o Filho do Bendito, ao qual seja a glória para todo o sempre, Amém. Mas quando viram que ele não se voltaria para eles, perseguiram a Paulo, e o prenderam, e o trouxeram de volta à cidade, apedrejando-o e expulsando-o da sua cidade e do seu termo. Mas Pâncares não retribuiu mal por mal; fechou a porta de sua casa e entrou com sua mulher, jejuando.

5I also believe, my brethren, that there is no other God, save Jesus Christ the son of the Blessed, unto whom is glory for ever, Amen. But when they saw that he would not turn to them, they pursued Paul, and caught him, and brought him back into the city, casting stones at him and thrusting him out of their city and out of their country. But Panchares would not return evil for evil: he shut the door of his house and went in with his wife, fasting.

6Mas ao cair da tarde, veio Paulo a ele e disse: Deus o ressuscitou por Jesus Cristo.

6But when it was evening Paul came to him and said: God hath raised him by Jesus Christ.
