1Atos de Paulo e Tecla: Enquanto Paulo subia para Icônio após a fuga de Antioquia, seus companheiros de viagem foram Demas e Ermógenes, cheios de hipocrisia; e eles foram importunos com Paulo, como se o amassem.

1Acts of Paul and Thecla: As Paul was going up to Iconium after the flight from Antioch, his fellow-travellers were Demas and Ermogenes, full of hypocrisy; and they were importunate with Paul, as if they loved him.

2Mas Paulo, olhando apenas para a bondade de Cristo, não lhes fez mal, mas os amou excessivamente, de modo que tornou os oráculos do Senhor doces para eles no ensino tanto do nascimento como da ressurreição do Amado; e ele lhes deu um relato, palavra por palavra, das grandes coisas de Cristo, como Ele lhe havia sido revelado.

2But Paul, looking only to the goodness of Christ, did them no harm, but loved them exceedingly, so that he made the oracles of the Lord sweet to them in the teaching both of the birth and the resurrection of the Beloved; and he gave them an account, word for word, of the great things of Christ, how He had been revealed to him.

3E um certo homem, chamado Onesíforo, ouvindo que Paulo tinha vindo a Icônio, saiu ao seu encontro com seus filhos Silas e Zenão, e sua esposa Lectra, para que pudesse entretê-lo: pois Tito lhe havia informado como Paulo era na aparência: pois ele não o tinha visto na carne, mas apenas no espírito.

3And a certain man, by name Onesiphorus, hearing that Paul had come to Iconium, went out to meet him with his children Silas and Zeno, and his wife Lectra, in order that he might entertain him: for Titus had informed him what Paul was like in appearance: for he had not seen him in the flesh, but only in the spirit.

4E ele foi pelo caminho de Listra, e ficou esperando por ele, e ficou olhando para os transeuntes conforme a descrição de Tito.

4And he went along the road to Lystra, and stood waiting for him, and kept looking at the passers by according to the description of Titus.

5E ele viu Paulo chegando, um homem de estatura pequena, calvo, pernas arqueadas, bem constituído, com sobrancelhas juntas, nariz bastante comprido, cheio de graça.

5And he saw Paul coming, a man small in size, bald-headed, bandy-legged, well-built, with eyebrows meeting, rather long-nosed, full of grace.

6For sometimes he seemed like a man, and sometimes he had the countenance of an angel.

7E Paulo, vendo Onesíforo, sorriu; e Onesíforo disse: Salve, ó servo do Deus bendito! E ele disse: A graça seja contigo e com a tua casa.

7And Paul, seeing Onesiphorus, smiled; and Onesiphorus said: Hail, O servant of the blessed God! And he said: Grace be with thee and thy house.

8E Demas e Ermógenes ficaram com ciúmes e mostraram maior hipocrisia; de modo que Demas disse: Não somos nós do Deus bendito, que não nos saudaste assim? E Onesíforo disse: Não vejo em ti o fruto da justiça; mas se você é assim, venha você também para minha casa e descanse.

8And Demas and Ermogenes were jealous, and showed greater hypocrisy; so that Demas said: Are not we of the blessed God, that thou hast not thus saluted us? And Onesiphorus said: I do not see in you the fruit of righteousness; but if such you be, come you also into my house and rest yourselves.

9E tendo Paulo entrado na casa de Onesíforo, houve grande alegria, e dobramento de joelhos, e partir do pão, e a palavra de Deus sobre o domínio próprio e a ressurreição; Paulo dizendo: Bem-aventurados os puros de coração, porque verão a Deus: bem-aventurados os que mantiveram a carne casta, porque se tornarão um templo de Deus: bem-aventurados os que se controlam, porque Deus falará com eles: bem-aventurados os que se mantiveram afastados deste mundo, porque serão chamados de retos: bem-aventurados os que têm esposas por não as terem, porque receberão a Deus como sua porção: bem-aventurados os que têm o temor de Deus, porque se tornarão anjos de Deus: bem-aventurados os que guardaram o batismo, porque descansarão ao lado do Pai e do Filho: bem-aventurados os misericordiosos, porque obterão misericórdia e não verão o amargo dia do julgamento: bem-aventurados os corpos das virgens, porque agradarão a Deus e não perderão a recompensa de sua castidade; pois a palavra do Pai se tornará para eles uma obra de salvação para o dia de Seu Filho, e eles terão descanso para todo o sempre.

9And Paul having gone into the house of Onesiphorus, there was great joy, and bending of knees, and breaking of bread, and the word of God about self-control and the resurrection; Paul saying: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God: blessed are they that have kept the flesh chaste, for they shall become a temple of God: blessed are they that control themselves, for God shall speak with them: blessed are they that have kept aloof from this world, for they shall be called upright: blessed are they that have wives as not having them, for they shall receive God for their portion: blessed are they that have the fear of God, for they shall become angels of God: blessed are they that have kept the baptism, for they shall rest beside the Father and the Son: blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, and shall not see the bitter day of judgment: blessed are the bodies of the virgins, for they shall be well pleasing to God, and shall not lose the reward of their chastity; for the word of the Father shall become to them a work of salvation against the day of His Son, and they shall have rest for ever and ever.

10E enquanto Paulo falava assim no meio da igreja, na casa de Onesíforo, uma certa virgem Tecla, filha de Teocleia, desposada com um homem chamado Tamiris, sentada perto da janela, ouvia dia e noite o discurso da virgindade e da oração, e não desviou o olhar da janela, mas prestou atenção à fé, regozijando-se excessivamente.

10And while Paul was thus speaking in the midst of the church in the house of Onesiphorus, a certain virgin Thecla, the daughter of Theocleia, betrothed to a man named Thamyris, sitting at the window close by, listened night and day to the discourse of virginity and prayer, and did not look away from the window, but paid earnest heed to the faith, rejoicing exceedingly.

11E quando ela ainda via muitas mulheres entrando ao lado de Paulo, ela também teve um desejo ardente de ser considerada digna de estar na presença de Paulo e de ouvir a palavra de Cristo; pois ela nunca tinha visto sua figura, mas apenas ouviu sua palavra.

11And when she still saw many women going in beside Paul, she also had an eager desire to be deemed worthy to stand in the presence of Paul, and to hear the word of Christ; for never had she seen his figure, but heard his word only.

12E como ela não se afastou da janela, sua mãe manda para Thamyris; e ele vem com alegria, como se já a recebesse em casamento.

12And as she did not stand away from the window, her mother sends to Thamyris; and he comes gladly, as if already receiving her in marriage.

13E Teocleia disse: Tenho uma história estranha para te contar, Thamyris; pois certamente durante três dias e três noites Tecla não se levanta da janela, nem para comer nem para beber; mas olhando seriamente como se estivesse diante de alguma visão agradável, ela é tão devotada a um estrangeiro ensinando discursos enganosos e astutos, que me pergunto como uma virgem de tal modéstia é tão dolorosamente humilhada.

13And Theocleia said: I have a strange story to tell thee, Thamyris; for assuredly for three days and three nights Thecla does not rise from the window, neither to eat nor to drink; but looking earnestly as if upon some pleasant sight, she is so devoted to a foreigner teaching deceitful and artful discourses, that I wonder how a virgin of such modesty is so painfully put about.

14Thamyris, este homem derrubará a cidade dos Iconianos, e também tua Tecla; pois todas as mulheres e jovens vão ao lado dele, sendo ensinados a temer a Deus e a viver na castidade.

14Thamyris, this man will overturn the city of the Iconians, and thy Thecla too besides; for all the women and the young men go in beside him, being taught to fear God and to live in chastity.

15Além disso, também minha filha, amarrada à janela como uma aranha, se apega ao que Paulo diz com uma ansiedade estranha e uma emoção terrível; pois a virgem olha ansiosamente para o que ele diz e fica cativada.

15Moreover also my daughter, tied to the window like a spider, lays hold of what is said by Paul with a strange eagerness and awful emotion; for the virgin looks eagerly at what is said by him, and has been captivated.

16Mas chegue perto e fale com ela, pois ela está prometida a você.

16But do thou go near and speak to her, for she has been betrothed to thee.

17E Thamyris aproximando-se e beijando-a, mas ao mesmo tempo também temendo sua emoção avassaladora, disse: Tecla, minha noiva, por que você se senta assim? e que tipo de sentimento te mantém dominado? Volte-se para teu Thamyris e tenha vergonha.

17And Thamyris going near, and kissing her, but at the same time also being afraid of her overpowering emotion, said: Thecla, my betrothed, why dost thou sit thus? and what sort of feeling holds thee overpowered? Turn round to thy Thamyris, and be ashamed.

18Além disso, sua mãe também disse as mesmas coisas: Por que você fica assim sentado, olhando para baixo, minha filha, e sem responder nada, mas como uma louca? 18Moreover also her mother said the same things: Why dost thou sit thus looking down, my child, and answering nothing, but like a mad woman? And they wept fearfully, Thamyris indeed for the loss of a wife, and Theocleia of a child, and the maidservants of a mistress: there was accordingly much confusion in the house of mourning.

19E enquanto essas coisas aconteciam assim, Tecla não se virou, mas continuou prestando atenção à palavra de Paulo.

19And while these things were thus going on, Thecla did not turn round, but kept attending earnestly to the word of Paul.

20E Thamyris levantando-se, saiu para a rua e ficou observando aqueles que entravam e saíam dele.

20And Thamyris starting up, went forth into the street, and kept watching those going in to him and coming out.

21E ele viu dois homens disputando amargamente um com o outro; e ele disse: Homens, dizei-me quem é este entre vós, que desencaminha as almas dos jovens e engana as virgens, para que não se casem, mas permaneçam como estão.

21And he saw two men bitterly contending with each other; and he said: Men, tell me who this is among you, leading astray the souls of young men, and deceiving virgins, so that they do not marry, but remain as they are.

22Prometo, portanto, dar-lhe dinheiro suficiente se você me contar sobre ele; pois eu sou o primeiro homem da cidade.

22I promise, therefore, to give you money enough if you tell me about him; for I am the first man of the city.

23E Demas e Ermógenes lhe disseram: Quem é este, de fato, não sabemos; mas ele priva os jovens de esposas e as donzelas de maridos, dizendo: Não há para você uma ressurreição de nenhuma outra maneira, a menos que você permaneça casto e não polua a carne, mas a mantenha casta.

23And Demas and Ermogenes said to him: Who this is, indeed, we do not know; but he deprives young men of wives, and maidens of husbands, saying, There is for you a resurrection in no other way, unless you remain chaste, and pollute not the flesh, but keep it chaste.

24E Thamyris disse-lhes: Entrem em minha casa e descansem.

24And Thamyris said to them: Come into my house, and rest yourselves.

25E foram para um suntuoso jantar, e muito vinho, e muita riqueza, e uma mesa esplêndida; e Thamyris os fez beber, por seu amor por Tecla e por seu desejo de tê-la como esposa.

25And they went to a sumptuous dinner, and much wine, and great wealth, and a splendid table; and Thamyris made them drink, from his love to Thecla, and his wish to get her as his wife.

26E Thamyris disse durante o jantar: Homens, qual é o seu ensinamento, digam-me, para que eu também saiba; pois estou muito preocupado com Tecla, porque ela ama o estranho e estou impedido de me casar.

26And Thamyris said during the dinner: Ye men, what is his teaching, tell me, that I also may know; for I am no little distressed about Thecla, because she thus loves the stranger, and I am prevented from marrying.

27Demas e Ermógenes disseram: Leve-o perante o governador Castelios sob a acusação de persuadir as multidões a abraçar o novo ensinamento dos cristãos, e ele o destruirá rapidamente, e você terá Tecla como sua esposa.

27Demas and Ermogenes said: Bring him before the governor Castelios on the charge of persuading the multitudes to embrace the new teaching of the Christians, and he will speedily destroy him, and thou shalt have Thecla as thy wife.

28E nós te ensinaremos que a ressurreição da qual este homem fala aconteceu, porque já aconteceu nos filhos que temos; e ressuscitamos quando chegamos ao conhecimento do verdadeiro Deus.

28And we shall teach thee that the resurrection of which this man speaks has taken place, because it has already taken place in the children which we have; and we rose again when we came to the knowledge of the true God.

29E Thamyris, ouvindo essas coisas, cheio de raiva e raiva, levantando-se cedo, foi à casa de Onesíforo com arcontes e funcionários públicos, e uma grande multidão com bastões, dizendo: Tu corrompeste a cidade dos Iconianos, e aquela que estava desposada comigo, para que ela não me aceitasse: vamos ao governador Castelios.

29And Thamyris, hearing these things, being filled with anger and rage, rising up early, went to the house of Onesiphorus with archons and public officers, and a great crowd with batons, saying: Thou hast corrupted the city of the Iconians, and her that was betrothed to me, so that she will not have me: let us go to the governor Castelios.

30And all the multitude said: Away with the magician; for he has corrupted all our wives, and the multitudes have been persuaded to change their opinions.

31And Thamyris, standing before the tribunal, said with a great shout: O proconsul, this man, who he is we know not, who makes virgins averse to marriage; let him say before thee on what account he teaches these things.

32E Demas e Ermógenes disseram a Thamyris: Diga que ele é cristão, e assim você acabará com ele.

32And Demas and Ermogenes said to Thamyris: Say that he is a Christian, and thus thou wilt do away with him.

33Mas o procônsul manteve a sua intenção e chamou Paulo, dizendo: Quem és tu e o que ensinas? pois não trazem acusações pequenas contra ti.

33But the proconsul stayed his intention, and called Paul, saying: Who art thou, and what dost thou teach? for they bring no small charges against thee.

34E Paulo levantou a voz, dizendo: Visto que hoje sou examinado quanto ao que ensino, ouve, ó procônsul: Um Deus vivo, um Deus de retribuições, um Deus zeloso, um Deus que não precisa de nada, consultando para a salvação dos homens, enviou-me para que eu possa resgatá-los da corrupção e da impureza, e de todo prazer, e da morte, para que não pequem.

34And Paul lifted up his voice, saying: Since I am this day examined as to what I teach, listen, O proconsul: A living God, a God of retributions, a jealous God, a God in need of nothing, consulting for the salvation of men, has sent me that I may reclaim them from corruption and uncleanness, and from all pleasure, and from death, that they may not sin.

35Por isso Deus enviou Seu próprio Filho, a quem eu prego, e em quem ensino os homens a depositarem sua esperança, o único que teve compaixão de um mundo desencaminhado, para que não estejam mais sob julgamento, ó procônsul, mas possam ter fé, e o temor de Deus, e o conhecimento da santidade, e o amor da verdade.

35Wherefore God sent His own Son, whom I preach, and in whom I teach men to rest their hope, who alone has had compassion upon a world led astray, that they may be no longer under judgment, O proconsul, but may have faith, and the fear of God, and the knowledge of holiness, and the love of truth.

36Se, portanto, ensino o que me foi revelado por Deus, em que faço mal? E o procônsul, tendo ouvido, ordenou que Paulo fosse amarrado e mandado para a prisão, até que, disse ele, eu, tendo tempo livre, o ouvirei com mais atenção.

36If, therefore, I teach what has been revealed to me by God, wherein do I do wrong? And the proconsul having heard, ordered Paul to be bound, and sent to prison, until, said he, I, being at leisure, shall hear him more attentively.

37E Tecla, à noite, tendo tirado as pulseiras, deu-as ao porteiro; e tendo-lhe sido aberta a porta, ela entrou na prisão; e tendo dado ao carcereiro um espelho de prata, ela entrou ao lado de Paulo e, sentando-se a seus pés, ouviu as grandes coisas de Deus.

37And Thecla by night having taken off her bracelets, gave them to the gatekeeper; and the door having been opened to her, she went into the prison; and having given the jailor a silver mirror, she went in beside Paul, and, sitting at his feet, she heard the great things of God.

38E Paulo não tinha medo de nada, mas ordenou a sua vida na confiança de Deus.

38And Paul was afraid of nothing, but ordered his life in the confidence of God.

39E sua fé também aumentou, e ela beijou suas amarras.

39And her faith also was increased, and she kissed his bonds.

40E quando Tecla foi procurada por seus amigos, e Thamyris, como se estivesse perdida, corria pelas ruas, um dos companheiros escravos do porteiro informou-o de que ela havia saído à noite.

40And when Thecla was sought for by her friends, and Thamyris, as if she had been lost, was running up and down the streets, one of the gatekeeper's fellow-slaves informed him that she had gone out by night.

41E, tendo saído, examinaram o porteiro; e ele lhes disse: Ela foi para o estrangeiro na prisão.

41And having gone out, they examined the gatekeeper; and he said to them: She has gone to the foreigner into the prison.

42E tendo partido, encontraram-na, por assim dizer, acorrentada pelo afeto.

42And having gone, they found her, as it were, enchained by affection.

43E tendo saído dali, reuniram as multidões e informaram o governador da circunstância.

43And having gone forth thence, they drew the multitudes together, and informed the governor of the circumstance.

44E ordenou que Paulo fosse levado ao tribunal; mas Tecla estava chafurdando no chão no lugar onde ele estava sentado e a ensinava na prisão; e ele ordenou que ela também fosse levada ao tribunal.

44And he ordered Paul to be brought to the tribunal; but Thecla was wallowing on the ground in the place where he sat and taught her in the prison; and he ordered her too to be brought to the tribunal.

45E ela veio, exultante de alegria.

45And she came, exulting with joy.

46E a multidão, quando Paulo foi trazido, gritou com veemência: Ele é um mágico! vá embora com ele! Mas o procônsul ouviu Paulo de bom grado sobre as santas obras de Cristo.

46And the crowd, when Paul had been brought, vehemently cried out: He is a magician! away with him! But the proconsul gladly heard Paul upon the holy works of Christ.

47E tendo convocado um conselho, ele convocou Tecla e disse-lhe: Por que você não obedece a Thamyris, de acordo com a lei dos Iconianos? Mas ela ficou olhando seriamente para Paul.

47And having called a council, he summoned Thecla, and said to her: Why dost thou not obey Thamyris, according to the law of the Iconians? But she stood looking earnestly at Paul.

48E como ela não respondeu, sua mãe gritou, dizendo: Queime esse desgraçado; queime no meio do teatro aquela que não quer se casar, para que todas as mulheres que foram ensinadas por este homem tenham medo.

48And when she gave no answer, her mother cried out, saying: Burn the wicked wretch; burn in the midst of the theatre her that will not marry, in order that all the women that have been taught by this man may be afraid.

49E o governador ficou muito comovido; e tendo açoitado Paulo, expulsou-o da cidade e condenou Tecla à queimadura.

49And the governor was greatly moved; and having scourged Paul, he cast him out of the city, and condemned Thecla to be burned.

50E imediatamente o governador foi para o teatro, e toda a multidão saiu para o espetáculo de Tecla.

50And immediately the governor went away to the theatre, and all the crowd went forth to the spectacle of Thecla.

51Mas assim como um cordeiro no deserto procura o pastor, ela continuou procurando por Paulo.

51But as a lamb in the wilderness looks round for the shepherd, so she kept searching for Paul.

52E, olhando para a multidão, viu o Senhor sentado à semelhança de Paulo e disse: Como não posso suportar a minha sorte, Paulo veio ver-me.

52And having looked upon the crowd, she saw the Lord sitting in the likeness of Paul, and said: As I am unable to endure my lot, Paul has come to see me.

53E ela olhou para ele com grande seriedade, e ele subiu ao céu.

53And she gazed upon him with great earnestness, and he went up into heaven.

54Mas as criadas e as virgens trouxeram os gravetos, para que Tecla fosse queimada.

54But the maid-servants and virgins brought the faggots, in order that Thecla might be burned.

55E quando ela entrou nua, o governador chorou e ficou maravilhado com o poder que havia nela.

55And when she came in naked, the governor wept, and wondered at the power that was in her.

56E os algozes públicos arranjaram a lenha para ela subir na pilha.

56And the public executioners arranged the faggots for her to go up on the pile.

57E ela, tendo feito o sinal da cruz, subiu sobre a lenha; e eles os acenderam.

57And she, having made the sign of the cross, went up on the faggots; and they lighted them.

58E embora ardesse um grande fogo, não a tocou; pois Deus, tendo compaixão dela, fez um estrondo subterrâneo, e uma nuvem os cobriu de cima, cheia de água e granizo; e tudo o que havia na sua cavidade foi derramado, de modo que muitos correram perigo de morte.

58And though a great fire was blazing, it did not touch her; for God, having compassion upon her, made an underground rumbling, and a cloud overshadowed them from above, full of water and hail; and all that was in the cavity of it was poured out, so that many were in danger of death.

59E o fogo foi apagado e Tecla foi salva.

59And the fire was put out, and Thecla saved.

60E Paulo estava jejuando com Onesíforo, e sua mulher, e seus filhos, num sepulcro novo, quando iam de Icônio para Dafne.

60And Paul was fasting with Onesiphorus and his wife, and his children, in a new tomb, as they were going from Iconium to Daphne.

61And when many days were past, the fasting children said to Paul: We are hungry, and we cannot buy loaves; for Onesiphorus had left the things of the world, and followed Paul, with all his house.

62And Paul, having taken off his cloak, said: Go, my child, buy more loaves, and bring them.

63And when the child was buying, he saw Thecla their neighbour, and was astonished, and said: Thecla, whither art thou going? And she said: I have been saved from the fire, and am following Paul.

64E o menino disse: Vem, eu te levarei até ele; porque ele está angustiado por tua causa e ora seis dias.

64And the boy said: Come, I shall take thee to him; for he is distressed about thee, and is praying six days.

65E ela ficou ao lado do túmulo onde Paulo estava com os joelhos dobrados, orando e dizendo: Ó Cristo Salvador, não deixe o fogo tocar Tecla, mas fique ao lado dela, pois ela é Tua.

65And she stood beside the tomb where Paul was with bended knees, and praying, and saying: O Saviour Christ, let not the fire touch Thecla, but stand by her, for she is Thine.

66E ela, de pé atrás dele, gritou: Ó Pai, que fizeste o céu e a terra, o Pai do Teu Santo Filho, eu Te bendigo porque me salvaste para que eu possa ver Paulo.

66And she, standing behind him, cried out: O Father, who hast made the heaven and the earth, the Father of Thy holy Son, I bless Thee that Thou hast saved me that I may see Paul.

67E Paulo, levantando-se, viu-a e disse: Ó Deus, que conheces o coração, Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, eu te bendigo porque, tendo-me ouvido, fizeste rapidamente o que eu desejei.

67And Paul, rising up, saw her, and said: O God, that knowest the heart, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I bless Thee that Thou, having heard me, hast done quickly what I wished.

68E tinham cinco pães, e ervas, e água; e eles se regozijaram nas santas obras de Cristo.

68And they had five loaves, and herbs, and water; and they rejoiced in the holy works of Christ.

69E Tecla disse a Paulo: Cortarei meu cabelo e te seguirei aonde quer que você vá.

69And Thecla said to Paul: I shall cut my hair, and follow thee whithersoever thou mayst go.

70E ele disse: É uma época de vergonha e você é linda.

70And he said: It is a shameless age, and thou art beautiful.

71Tenho medo de que outra tentação caia sobre você, pior do que a primeira, e que você não resista a ela, mas seja covarde.

71I am afraid lest another temptation come upon thee worse than the first, and that thou withstand it not, but be cowardly.

72E Tecla disse: Apenas me dê o selo em Cristo, e a tentação não me atingirá.

72And Thecla said: Only give me the seal in Christ, and temptation shall not touch me.

73E Paulo disse: Tecla, espera com paciência, e receberás a água.

109And there was round her, as she was naked, a cloud of fire; so that neither could the wild beasts touch her, nor could she be seen naked.

174E tendo dito isso, eles a agarraram e quiseram insultá-la.

174And having said this, they laid fast hold of her, and wished to insult her.

175E ela lhes diz com mansidão: Esperem, meus filhos, para que vejam a glória do Senhor.

175And she says to them with mildness: Wait, my children, that you may see the glory of the Lord.

176E sendo presa por eles, ela olhou para o céu e disse: Deus, terrível e incomparável, e glorioso para Teus adversários, que me livrou do fogo, que não me entregou a Thamyris, que não me entregou a Alexandre, que me livrou das feras selvagens, que me salvou no abismo, que trabalhou comigo em todos os lugares, e glorificou Teu nome em mim, agora também me livra desses homens iníquos, e não me deixe insultar a minha virgindade, que através do Teu nome tenho preservado até agora, porque eu Te amo, e te desejo, e te adoro, o Pai, e o Filho, e o Espírito Santo para sempre, Amém.

176And being laid hold of by them, she looked up into heaven, and said: God, terrible and incomparable, and glorious to Thine adversaries, who didst deliver me out of the fire, who didst not give me up to Thamyris, who didst not give me up to Alexander, who didst deliver me from the wild beasts, who didst save me in the abyss, who hast everywhere worked with me, and glorified Thy name in me, now also deliver me from these lawless men, and let me not insult my virginity, which through Thy name I have preserved till now, because I love Thee, and desire Thee, and adore Thee, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost for ever, Amen.

177E veio uma voz do céu, dizendo: Não temas, Tecla, minha verdadeira serva, pois estou contigo.

177And there came a voice out of the heaven, saying: Fear not, Thecla, my true servant, for I am with thee.

178Olhe e veja onde uma abertura foi feita diante de você, pois haverá para você uma casa eterna, e lá você obterá abrigo.

178Look and see where an opening has been made before thee, for there shall be for thee an everlasting house, and there thou shalt obtain shelter.

179E a abençoada Tecla, olhando para isso, viu a rocha aberta tanto para permitir a entrada de um homem, e fez de acordo com o que havia sido dito a ela: e nobremente fugindo dos iníquos entrou na rocha; e a rocha foi imediatamente fechada, de modo que nem sequer apareceu uma junção.

179And the blessed Thecla regarding it, saw the rock opened as far as to allow a man to enter, and did according to what had been said to her: and nobly fleeing from the lawless ones entered into the rock; and the rock was straightway shut together, so that not even a joining appeared.

180E eles, contemplando a extraordinária maravilha, ficaram como que distraídos; e não conseguiram deter a serva de Deus, mas apenas agarraram seu véu, e conseguiram arrancar certa parte; e isso com a permissão de Deus para a fé daqueles que veem o lugar venerável, e para uma bênção nas gerações seguintes para aqueles que crêem em nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo com um coração puro.

180And they, beholding the extraordinary wonder, became as it were distracted; and they were not able to detain the servant of God, but only caught hold of her veil, and were able to tear off a certain part; and that by the permission of God for the faith of those seeing the venerable place, and for a blessing in the generations afterwards to those that believe in our Lord Jesus Christ out of a pure heart.

181Assim, então, sofreu a primeira mártir de Deus, e apóstola, e virgem, Tecla, que veio de Icônio aos dezoito anos; e com a viagem, as voltas e o retiro na montanha, ela viveu outros setenta e dois anos.

181Thus, then, suffered the first martyr of God, and apostle, and virgin, Thecla, who came from Iconium at eighteen years old; and with the journeying, and the going round, and the retirement in the mountain, she lived other seventy-two years.

182E quando o Senhor a levou, ela tinha noventa anos.

182And when the Lord took her, she was ninety years old.

183E assim é a sua consumação.

183And thus is her consummation.

184E a sua santa comemoração é no dia vinte e quatro do mês de setembro, para glória do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo, agora e sempre, e pelos séculos dos séculos, Amém.

184And her holy commemoration is on the twenty-fourth of the month of September, to the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to ages of ages, Amen.
