Atos de Filipe 3

1E ele os ensinou assim: Meus irmãos, filhos de meu Pai - pois vocês são da minha família quanto a Cristo, substância da minha cidade, a Jerusalém de cima, o deleite da minha morada - por que vocês foram levados cativos por seu inimigo, a serpente, retorcida, torta e perversa, a quem Deus não deu nem mãos nem pés? E tortuoso é o seu caminho, visto que é filho do Maligno; porque seu pai é a morte, e sua mãe a corrupção, e a ruína está em seu corpo.

1And he taught them thus: My brethren, sons of my Father—for you are of my family as to Christ, substance of my city, the Jerusalem above, the delight of my dwelling-place—why have you been taken captive by your enemy the serpent, twisted, crooked, and perverse, to whom God has given neither hands nor feet? And crooked is his going, since he is the son of the wicked one; for his father is death, and his mother corruption, and ruin is in his body.

2Não entre então em sua destruição; pois você está escravizado pela incredulidade e engano de seu filho, que é sem ordem e não tem substância; sem forma, e não tem forma em toda a criação, nem no céu, nem na terra, nem entre os peixes que estão nas águas.

2Do not go then into his destruction; for you are in bondage by the unbelief and deception of his son, who is without order, and has no substance; formless, and has no form in the whole creation, either in the heaven or in the earth, or among the fishes that are in the waters.

3Mas se você o vir, fuja dele, pois ele não se parece com os homens: sua morada é o abismo, e ele anda nas trevas.

3But if you see him, flee from him, since he has no resemblance to men: his dwelling is the abyss, and he walks in darkness.

4Fuja, então, dele, para que seu veneno não seja derramado sobre você: se seu veneno for derramado sobre seu corpo, você anda em sua maldade.

4Flee, then, from him, that his venom may not be poured out upon you: if his venom be poured out upon your body, you walk in his wickedness.

5Mas antes permaneça na adoração verdadeira, sendo fiel, reverente e bom, sem dolo.

5But remain rather in the true worship, being faithful, reverent, and good, without guile.

6Fuja de Satanás, o dragão, e remova de você sua semente perversa, ou seja, o desejo, pelo qual ele gera doenças na alma, que é o veneno da serpente.

6Flee from Satan the dragon, and remove from you his wicked seed, namely desire, by which he begets disease in the soul, which is the venom of the serpent.

7Pois o desejo é da serpente desde o início, e é ela quem se arma contra os fiéis; pois ela saiu das trevas e voltou para as trevas.

7For desire is of the serpent from the beginning, and she it is who arms herself against the faithful; for she came forth out of the darkness, and returns to the darkness.

8Vocês deveriam, portanto, depois de virem até nós, ou melhor, através de nós, até Deus, expulsar de seus corpos o veneno do diabo.

8You ought therefore, after coming to us, or rather through us to God, to throw out the venom of the devil from your bodies.

9E enquanto o apóstolo dizia isso, eis que Nicanora saiu de sua casa e foi com seus servos para a casa de Estáquis.

9And as the apostle was saying this, behold, Nicanora came forth from her house, and went with her slaves into the house of Stachys.

10E quando ela chegou perto da porta da casa, eis que Mariamme falou com ela em língua siríaca: Helikomaei, kosma, etaa, mariacha.

10And when she came near the door of the house, behold, Mariamme spoke to her in the Syriac language: Helikomaei, kosma, etaa, mariacha.

11E ela explicou suas palavras, dizendo: Ó filha do Espírito, tu és minha senhora, que foi dada em penhor à serpente; mas eu vim para te livrar; quebrarei as tuas amarras e as cortarei pela raiz.

11And she explained her words, saying: O daughter of the Spirit, thou art my lady, who hast been given in pledge to the serpent; but I have come to deliver thee: I shall break thy bonds, and cut them from their root.

12Eis que chegou o Libertador que te liberta; eis que o Sol da justiça nasceu para te iluminar.

12Behold, the Deliverer that frees thee has come: behold, the Sun of righteousness has risen to enlighten thee.

13E enquanto ela falava assim, o sombrio tirano veio correndo e ofegante.

13And when she was thus speaking, the gloomy tyrant came running and panting.

14E Nicanora, que estava diante da porta, ouviu isto, e tomou coragem diante de todos, clamando e dizendo: Sou hebreia, filha dos hebreus; fale comigo na língua de meus pais, porque ouvi a sua pregação e fui curado desta minha doença.

14And Nicanora, who was before the door, heard this, and took courage before them all, crying out and saying: I am a Hebrew, a daughter of the Hebrews; speak with me in the language of my fathers, because I have heard your preaching, and have been cured of this my disease.

15Eu reverencio e glorifico a bondade de Deus, na medida em que Ele fez você ser totalmente estragado nesta terra.

15I reverence and glorify the goodness of God, in that He hath made you to be utterly spoiled in this earth.

16E quando ela disse isso, o tirano veio, e agarrou suas vestes, e disse: Ó Nicanora, eu não te deixei deitada na cama por causa da tua doença? De onde, então, você encontrou esse poder e força, para poder chegar até esses mágicos? A menos, então, que você diga quem é o curador, eu o punirei severamente.

16And when she said this, the tyrant came, and took hold of her garments, and said: O Nicanora, did I not leave thee lying on the bed from thy disease? Whence, then, hast thou found this power and strength, so as to be able to come to these magicians? Unless, then, thou tell who is the healer, I shall punish thee most severely.

17E Nicanora respondeu, e disse: Ó criador de tiranos, afaste de ti esta tirania, e esqueça tuas más obras, e abandone esta vida temporária, e deixe de lado a vanglória, porque ela passa como uma sombra: busque antes o que é eterno, e tire de ti o trabalho bestial e ímpio do desejo vil, e rejeite relações vãs, que são a criação da morte, a prisão escura; e derrube o muro intermediário da corrupção e prepare para si uma vida casta e imaculada, para que possamos viver totalmente em santidade.

17And Nicanora answered, and said: O rearer of tyrants, cast away from thyself this tyranny, and forget thy wicked works, and abandon this temporary life, and put away vainglory, because it passes like a shadow: seek rather what is everlasting, and take away from thyself the beastly and impious work of base desire, and reject vain intercourse, which is the husbandry of death, the dark prison; and overturn the middle wall of corruption, and prepare for thyself a life chaste and spotless, that we may altogether live in sanctity.

18Se, então, queres que eu permaneça contigo, viverei contigo em continência.

18If, then, thou wishest me to remain with thee, I will live with thee in continence.

19E quando o tirano ouviu essas palavras, ele agarrou-a pelos cabelos da cabeça e arrastou-a, chutando-a e dizendo: Seria melhor para você ser morta pela minha espada do que ser vista com esses mágicos e enganadores estrangeiros.

19And when the tyrant heard these words, he seized her by the hair of the head, and dragged her along, kicking her, and saying: It would be better for thee to be put to death by my sword, than to be seen with these foreign magicians and deceivers.

20Eu te punirei, portanto, e matarei aqueles que te enganaram.

20I will punish thee, therefore, and put to death those who have deceived thee.

21E ele se voltou furioso para os algozes que o seguiam e disse: Tragam-me esses impostores.

21And he turned in a rage to the executioners who followed him, and said: Bring me these impostors.

22E os algozes correram para a casa de Stachys, e prenderam Filipe, e Bartolomeu, e Mariamme, com o leopardo e o cabritinho, e os arrastaram e os trouxeram.

22And the executioners ran to the house of Stachys, and laid hold of Philip, and Bartholomew, and Mariamme, with the leopard and the kid of the goats, and dragged them along, and brought them.

23Quando o tirano os viu, rangeu os dentes contra eles e disse: Arraste esses mágicos e enganadores que enganaram muitas almas de mulheres dizendo: Somos adoradores de Deus.

23When the tyrant saw them, he gnashed his teeth against them, and said: Drag along these magicians and deceivers that have deceived many souls of women by saying, We are worshippers of God.

24E fez trazer-lhes correias e amarrou-lhes os pés.

24And he caused thongs to be brought, and bound their feet.

25E ordenou que fossem arrastados desde a porta até ao templo.

25And he ordered them to be dragged along from the gate as far as the temple.

26E grandes multidões se reuniram naquele lugar.

26And great multitudes came together to that place.

27E admiraram-se muito do leopardo e do cabrito; porque falavam como homens, e alguns dentre a multidão acreditaram nas palavras dos apóstolos.

27And they wondered exceedingly at the leopard and the kid; for they were speaking like men, and some of the multitude believed the words of the apostles.

28E os sacerdotes disseram ao tirano: Estes homens são mágicos.

28And the priests said to the tyrant: These men are magicians.

29E quando ele ouviu isso, ele queimou de raiva e ficou cheio de raiva; e ele ordenou que Filipe, Bartolomeu e Mariamne fossem despidos, dizendo: Revistam-nos.

29And when he heard that, he burned with rage, and was filled with anger; and he ordered Philip, and Bartholomew, and Mariamne to be stripped, saying: Search them.

30Talvez você encontre a feitiçaria deles.

30Perhaps you will find their sorcery.

31E os algozes os despiram, agarraram Mariamne e arrastaram-na, dizendo: Descubram-na, para que saibam que é uma mulher que os segue.

31And the executioners stripped them, and laid hold of Mariamne, and dragged her along, saying: Uncover her, that they may learn that it is a woman who follows them.

32E mandou trazer clavas e cordas fortes; e depois de furarem os tornozelos de Filipe, trouxeram ganchos, e passaram-lhe as cordas pelos tornozelos, e penduraram-no de cabeça para baixo numa árvore que estava diante da porta do templo; e fixaram estacas na parede do templo e o deixaram.

32And he ordered to bring clubs and strong cords; and after piercing Philip's ankles they brought hooks, and put the cords through his ankles, and hung him head downwards on a tree that was before the door of the temple; and they fixed pegs into the temple wall, and left him.

33E depois de amarrarem as mãos e os pés a Bartolomeu, estenderam-no nu sobre a parede; e quando despiram Mariamne, a aparência de seu corpo mudou e tornou-se uma arca de vidro cheia de luz, e eles não puderam se aproximar dela.

33And after binding Bartholomew hand and foot, they extended him naked on the wall; and when they had stripped Mariamne, the appearance of her body was changed, and became a glass chest filled with light, and they could not come near her.

34E Filipe falou com Bartolomeu em hebraico: Onde está João hoje, no dia da nossa necessidade? pois eis que estamos sendo libertos de nossos corpos.

34And Philip spoke with Bartholomew in Hebrew: Where is John to-day, in the day of our need? for behold, we are being delivered from our bodies.

35E puseram as mãos em Mariamne além do que é decente, e açoitaram o leopardo e o cabrito, e atearam fogo à casa de Stachys, porque ele nos acolheu.

35And they have laid hands on Mariamne beyond what is seemly, and they have scourged the leopard and the kid of the goats, and have set fire to the house of Stachys, because he took us in.

36Falemos, pois, para que desça fogo do céu e os queime.

36Let us therefore speak, that fire may come down from heaven and burn them up.

37E estando Filipe assim falando, eis que João entrou na cidade, e andando pelas ruas, perguntou aos que estavam na cidade: Qual é a comoção, e quem são estes homens, e por que são castigados? E eles lhe disseram: Você não é desta cidade? E você não sabe sobre esses homens, como eles perturbaram nossas casas e toda a cidade? Além disso, eles até persuadiram nossas esposas a se afastarem de nós sob o pretexto de religião, proclamando um nome estrangeiro, viz.

37And as Philip was thus speaking, behold, John came into the city, and walked about the street, and asked those in the city: What is the commotion, and who are these men, and why are they punished? And they say to him: Art thou not of this city? And dost thou not know about these men, how they disturbed our houses, and the whole city? Moreover, they have even persuaded our wives to go away from us on the pretence of religion, proclaiming a foreign name, viz.

38de Cristo; e eles também fecharam nossos templos com a feitiçaria que possuem, e mataram as serpentes que estão na cidade com nomes estrangeiros que nunca conhecemos.

38Christ's; and they have also shut our temples by the sorcery they have, and they have put to death the serpents that are in the city by foreign names that we have never known.

39E eles fixaram sua residência na casa de Stachys, o cego, a quem fizeram recuperar a visão através da saliva de uma mulher que os acompanha; e talvez seja ela quem tem toda a feitiçaria: e lá os acompanham um leopardo e um cabrito, falando como homens.

39And they have fixed their abode in the house of Stachys the blind man, whom they made to recover his sight through the spittle of a woman who accompanies them; and it is perhaps she who has all the sorcery: and there accompany them a leopard and a kid, speaking like men.

40Mas se alguma vez você viu tais ações, você não será perturbado por elas.

40But if ever you have seen such doings, you will not be put about by them.

41E João respondeu e disse-lhes: Mostrai-me.

41And John answered, and said to them: Show me them.

42E levaram-no ao templo onde Filipe estava pendurado.

42And they brought him to the temple where Philip was hanging.

43E quando Filipe viu João, disse a Bartolomeu: Ó meu irmão, eis que o filho de Barega - que é a água viva - chegou.

43And when Philip saw John, he said to Bartholomew: O my brother, behold the son of Barega—that is the living water—has come.

44E João viu Filipe pendurado de cabeça baixa, amarrado pelos tornozelos; e viu Bartolomeu também amarrado à parede do templo.

44And John saw Philip hanging head down, tied by his ankles; and saw Bartholomew also bound to the temple wall.

45E disse aos homens da cidade: Ó filhos da serpente, quão grande é a vossa loucura! pois o caminho do engano te enganou, o ímpio sopro do dragão soprou sobre você: por que você pune esses homens por dizerem que a serpente é seu inimigo? E quando ouviram estas palavras de João, impuseram-lhe as mãos, dizendo: Nós te chamamos de nosso concidadão, mas agora a tua palavra te fez manifestar que tu também estás em comunhão com eles.

45And he said to the men of the city: O children of the serpent, how great is your folly! for the way of deceit has deceived you, the wicked dragon breathing has breathed upon you: why do you punish these men for saying the serpent is your enemy? And when they heard these words from John, they laid their hands upon him, saying: We called thee our fellow-citizen, but now thy speech has made thee manifest that thou also art in communion with them.

46Tu também, portanto, serás condenado à mesma morte que eles, pois os sacerdotes decidiram assim: Vamos drenar o sangue deles enquanto eles caem de cabeça para baixo, e misturá-lo com vinho, e oferecê-lo à víbora.

46Thou also, therefore, shalt be put to the same death as they, for the priests have decided thus: Let us drain out their blood as they hang head downward, and mix it with wine, and offer it to the viper.

47E quando eles estavam assim falando, eis que Mariamne levantou-se do lugar em que estava e voltou à sua aparência anterior.

47And when they were thus speaking, behold, Mariamne rose up from the place in which she was, and came back to her former appearance.

48E os sacerdotes estenderam as mãos para João, querendo agarrá-lo, mas não conseguiram.

48And the priests reached forth their hands towards John, wishing to lay hold of him, and they could not.

49Então Filipe e Bartolomeu disseram a João: Onde está Jesus, que nos ordena que não tomemos nas nossas próprias mãos a vingança daqueles que nos torturam? pois depois disso não os suportarei.

49Then Philip with Bartholomew said to John: Where is Jesus, who enjoins upon us not to take into our own hands vengeance on those that torture us? for after this I will not endure them.

50E Filipe falou em hebraico, e disse: Meu Pai Uthael, ou seja:, ó Cristo, Pai de majestade, cujo nome todas as eras temem, que és poderoso, e o poder do universo, cujo nome prossegue em senhorio, Eloa: Bendito sejas Tu por todos os tempos; Tu a quem os domínios e poderes temem, tremendo diante de Tua face; Rei da honra! Pai da majestade! cujo nome foi divulgado às feras do deserto, e elas ficaram quietas por causa de Ti, e através de Ti as serpentes se afastaram de nós: Ouve-nos antes de pedirmos.

50And Philip spoke in Hebrew, and said: My Father Uthael, i-e:, O Christ, Father of majesty, whose name all the ages fear, who art powerful, and the power of the universe, whose name goes forth in lordship, Eloa: Blessed art Thou to the ages; Thou whom dominions and powers fear, trembling before Thy face; King of honour! Father of majesty! whose name has gone forth to the wild beasts of the desert, and they have become quiet because of Thee, and through Thee the serpents have departed from us: Hear us before we ask.

51Tu que nos vês antes de chamarmos, que conheces os nossos pensamentos, o Todo-inspetor de tudo, que envia de Si mesmo inúmeras compaixões; deixe o abismo abrir sua boca e engolir essas pessoas ímpias que não aceitam a palavra da Tua verdade.

51Thou who seest us before we call, who knowest our thoughts, the All-surveyor of all, who sends forth from Himself unnumbered compassions; let the abyss open its mouth, and swallow up these godless persons who will not accept the word of Thy truth.

52E naquela mesma hora o abismo abriu a sua boca, e todo aquele lugar foi violentamente abalado, desde o procônsul até toda a multidão junto com os sacerdotes; e todos eles afundaram.

52And in that very hour the abyss opened its mouth, and all that place was violently shaken, from the proconsul to all the multitude along with the priests; and they were all sunk down.

53E os lugares onde os apóstolos e todos os que estavam com eles permaneceram inabaláveis, e a casa de Stachys, e Nicanora, a esposa do tirano, e as vinte e quatro esposas que fugiram de seus maridos, e as quarenta virgens que não conheceram homens.

53And the places where the apostles and all who were with them were remained unshaken, and the house of Stachys, and Nicanora the tyrant's wife, and the twenty-four wives who fled from their husbands, and the forty virgins who had not known men.

54Só estes não desceram ao abismo, porque se tornaram servos e receberam a palavra de Deus e o Seu selo; mas todo o resto da cidade foi engolido pelo abismo.

54These alone did not go down into the abyss, because they had become servants, and had received the word of God, and His seal; but all the rest of the city were swallowed down into the abyss.

55E o Salvador, tendo aparecido naquela hora, disse a Filipe: Quem é que pôs a mão no arado e deixou de endireitar o sulco? ou quem dá a sua luz aos outros e permanece sentado nas trevas? ou quem mora na terra e deixa sua morada para estranhos? ou quem larga a sua roupa e sai nu nos dias de inverno? ou qual escravo, que prestou o serviço do seu senhor, não será por ele chamado para jantar? ou quem corre com zelo no hipódromo e não ganha o prêmio? Filipe, eis que meu quarto nupcial está pronto, e bem-aventurado aquele que tem sua própria vestimenta brilhante; pois é ele quem recebe a coroa da alegria na cabeça.

55And the Saviour having appeared at that hour, said to Philip: Who is it that has put his hand to the plough, and has turned back from making the furrow straight? or who gives his light to others, and himself remains sitting in darkness? or who dwells in the dirt, and leaves his dwelling-place to strangers? or who lays down his garment, and goes out in the days of winter naked? or what slave that has done his master's service, shall not be called by him to supper? or who runs with zeal in the racecourse, and does not get the prize? Philip, behold my bridal chamber is ready, and blessed is he who has his own shining garment; for he it is who gets the crown of joy upon his head.

56Eis que a ceia está pronta, e bem-aventurado aquele que é chamado pelo noivo.

56Behold, the supper is ready, and blessed is he who is called by the bridegroom.

57Grande é a colheita do campo; bem-aventurado o trabalhador capaz.

57Great is the harvest of the field; blessed is the able workman.

58E quando Filipe ouviu estas palavras do Salvador, ele respondeu e disse-lhe: Tu nos deste licença, ó Jesus de Nazaré, e não nos ordenas a ferir aqueles que não desejam que Tu reine sobre eles? Mas isto sabemos: que o Teu nome não foi proclamado em todo o mundo, e Tu nos enviaste a esta cidade.

58And when Philip heard these words from the Saviour, he answered and said to him: Thou didst give us leave, O Jesus of Nazareth, and dost Thou not enjoin us to smite those who do not wish Thee to reign over them? But this we know, that Thy name has not been proclaimed in all the world, and Thou hast sent us to this city.

59E eu não pretendia vir para esta cidade, e Tu me enviaste, depois de me dar Teu verdadeiro mandamento, para que eu afastasse todo engano e reduzisse a nada todo ídolo e demônio, e todo o poder do imundo.

59And I did not intend to come into this city, and Thou didst send me, after giving me Thy true commandment, that I should drive away all deceit, and bring to nothing every idol and demon, and all the power of the unclean one.

60E quando cheguei aqui, os demônios fugiram de nossos rostos através do Teu nome, e os dragões e as serpentes murcharam, mas estes homens não tomaram para si a Tua verdadeira luz; e por esta razão resolvi humilhá-los, de acordo com sua loucura.

60And when I came here, the demons fled from our faces through Thy name, and the dragons and the serpents withered away, but these men did not take to themselves Thy true light; and for this reason I resolved to bring them low, according to their folly.

61E o Salvador disse: Ó Filipe, visto que abandonaste este meu mandamento de não retribuir o mal com o mal, por esta razão serás impedido no outro mundo por quarenta anos de estar no lugar da minha promessa: além disso, este é o fim da tua partida do corpo neste lugar; e Bartolomeu tem sua sorte na Licaônia e será crucificado lá; e Mariamne deitará o seu corpo no rio Jordão.

61And the Saviour said: O Philip, since thou hast forsaken this commandment of mine, not to render evil for evil, for this reason thou shalt be debarred in the next world for forty years from being in the place of my promise: besides, this is the end of thy departure from the body in this place; and Bartholomew has his lot in Lycaonia, and shall be crucified there; and Mariamne shall lay down her body in the river Jordan.

62E o Salvador virou-se e estendeu a mão, e fez o sinal da cruz no ar; e estava cheio de luz e tinha a forma de uma escada.

62And the Saviour turned and stretched out His hand, and made the sign of the cross in the air; and it was full of light, and had its form after the likeness of a ladder.

63E toda a multidão dos homens da cidade que haviam descido ao abismo subiu a escada da cruz de luz e nenhum deles permaneceu no abismo, mas apenas o tirano e os sacerdotes, e a víbora que eles adoravam.

63And all the multitude of the men of the city who had gone down into the abyss came up upon the ladder of the cross of light and none of them remained in the abyss, but only the tyrant and the priests, and the viper which they worshipped.

64E quando as multidões subiram do abismo, olharam e viram Filipe pendurado de cabeça baixa, e Bartolomeu na parede do templo, e também encontraram Mariamne em sua primeira forma.

64And when the multitudes came up from the abyss, they looked and saw Philip hanging head down, and Bartholomew upon the wall of the temple, and they also found Mariamne in her first shape.

65E o Salvador subiu ao céu à vista de Filipe, e de Bartolomeu, e de Mariamne, e do leopardo, e do cabrito, e de Nicanora e de Stachys; e todos eles com grande voz glorificaram a Deus com temor e tremor, clamando: Há um só Deus que nos enviou a Sua salvação, cujo nome estes homens proclamam: arrependemo-nos, pois, do erro em que estávamos antes de ontem, não sendo dignos da vida eterna; e acreditamos, tendo visto as coisas maravilhosas que aconteceram através de nós.

65And the Saviour went up into heaven in the sight of Philip and Bartholomew and Mariamne, and the leopard and the kid of the goats, and Nicanora and Stachys; and they all with a loud voice glorified God with fear and trembling, crying out: There is one God who has sent us His salvation, whose name these men proclaim: we repent therefore of the error in which we were before yesterday, not being worthy of eternal life; and we believe, having seen the wonderful things that have come to pass through us.

66E alguns deles se lançaram sobre seus rostos e adoraram os apóstolos; e outros se dispuseram a fugir, dizendo: Pode haver outro terremoto como o que acaba de acontecer.

66And some of them threw themselves on their faces, and worshipped the apostles; and others made ready to flee, saying: There may be another earthquake like the one that has just happened.

67E estendendo as mãos, o apóstolo Filipe, de cabeça baixa, disse: Homens da cidade, ouvi estas palavras que vou dizer-vos, de cabeça baixa.

67And stretching out his hands, the Apostle Philip, hanging head down, said: Men of the city, hear these words which I am going to say to you, hanging head down.

68Vocês aprenderam quão grandes são os poderes de Deus e as maravilhas que viram quando sua cidade foi destruída pelo terremoto que a atingiu.

68Ye have learned how great are the powers of God, and the wonders which you saw when your city was destroyed by the earthquake which came upon it.

69E isto foi manifesto a vocês, que a casa de Stachys não foi destruída e que ele não desceu ao abismo, porque ele acreditou no Deus verdadeiro e nos recebeu como Seus servos.

69And this was manifest to you, that the house of Stachys was not destroyed and that he did not go down into the abyss, because he believed on the true God, and received us His servants.

70E eu, tendo cumprido toda a vontade do meu Deus, sou Seu devedor pelo que paguei àquele que me fez o mal.

70And I, having fulfilled all the will of my God, am His debtor for what I requited to him that did evil to me.

72And he answered and said to them: My brethren,… those who are virgins in the members of their flesh and commit fornication in their hearts, and the fornication of their eyes, shall abound like the deluge.

73E tornam-se imoderados ao ouvir prazeres persuasivos, esquecendo-se do Deus do conhecimento do Evangelho; e seus corações estão cheios de arrogância, comendo e bebendo em sua adoração, esquecendo-se do santo mandamento e desprezando-o.

73And they grow immoderate from listening to persuasive pleasures, forgetting the God of the knowledge of the Gospel; and their hearts are full of arrogance, eating and drinking in their worship, forgetting the holy commandment, and despising it.

74Essa geração foi desviada; mas bem-aventurado aquele que se retira para o seu retiro, pois obterá descanso na sua partida.

74That generation is turned aside; but blessed is he that retires into his retreat, for he shall obtain rest in his departure.

75Você não sabe, Bartolomeu, que a palavra de nosso Senhor é verdadeira vida e conhecimento? pois o Senhor nos disse em Seu ensino: Todo aquele que olhar para uma mulher e a cobiçar em seu coração, cometeu adultério.

75Knowest thou not, Bartholomew, that the word of our Lord is true life and knowledge? for the Lord said to us in His teaching, Every one who shall look upon a woman, and lust after her in his heart, has completed adultery.

85And pray over me for forty days, that God may forgive the transgression which I did, in that I requited evil to him that did evil to me, and there may not be for me in the world to come the forty years.

86E depois de falar assim, Filipe orou, dizendo: Meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, Pai de todos os tempos, Rei de toda luz, que nos tornas sábios em Tua sabedoria, que nos deste o conhecimento exaltado, que graciosamente nos conferiu o conselho de Tua bondade, que nunca te apartaste de nós; Tu que afastas as doenças daqueles que em Ti se refugiam; Tu que nos deste a Palavra, para voltarmos a Ti aqueles que foram desencaminhados; Tu que nos deste sinais e maravilhas em nome daqueles de pouca fé; Tu que apresentaste a coroa àqueles que conquistaram; Tu que és o juiz dos jogos, que nos deste a coroa da alegria, que fala conosco, para que possamos resistir àqueles que nos machucam; Tu és Aquele que semeia e colhe, e completa, e aumenta, e vivifica todos os Teus próprios servos: reprovações e ameaças são para nós ajuda e poder através daqueles que se voltam para Ti através de nós, que somos Teus servos.

86And after thus speaking, Philip prayed, saying: My Lord Jesus Christ, Father of the ages, King of all light, who makest us wise in Thy wisdom, who hast given us the exalted knowledge, who hast graciously conferred upon us the counsel of Thy goodness, who hast never departed from us; Thou who takest away disease from those who take refuge in Thee; Thou who hast given us the Word, to turn unto Thee those who have been led astray; Thou who hast given us signs and wonders on behalf of those of little faith; Thou who presentest the crown to those who have conquered; Thou who art the judge of the games, who hast given us the crown of joy, who speakest with us, that we may be able to withstand those that hurt us; Thou art He who sows and reaps, and completes, and increases, and vivifies all Thine own servants: reproaches and threats are to us help and power through those who turn to Thee through us, who are Thy servants.
