1Acts of Saint Philip the Apostle When He Went to Upper Hellas.

2E aconteceu que, naqueles dias, quando Filipe entrou na cidade de Atenas, chamada Hélade, reuniram-se com ele trezentos filósofos, dizendo: Vamos ver qual é a sua sabedoria; porque dizem dos sábios da Ásia que a sua sabedoria é grande.

2And it came to pass in those days, when Philip entered into the city of Athens called Hellas, there assembled to him three hundred philosophers, saying: Let us go and see what his wisdom is; for they say about the wise men of Asia, that their wisdom is great.

3Pois eles pensavam que Filipe era um filósofo, já que viajava disfarçado de recluso; e eles não sabiam que ele era apóstolo de Cristo.

3For they thought that Philip was a philosopher, since he was travelling in the dress of a recluse; and they did not know that he was an apostle of Christ.

4Pois a vestimenta que Jesus deu aos seus discípulos era apenas um manto e um pano de linho.

4For the dress which Jesus gave to His disciples was a mantle only, and a linen cloth.

5Assim, então, Philip estava agindo.

5Thus, then, Philip was going about.

6Por isso, portanto, quando os filósofos da Hélade o viram, ficaram com medo.

6On this account, therefore, when the philosophers of Hellas saw him, they were afraid.

7Reuniram-se, portanto, num lugar e disseram uns aos outros: Vinde, vamos olhar em nossos livros, para que este estranho não nos vença e nos envergonhe.

7They assembled therefore into one place, and said to each other: Come, let us look into our books, lest somehow this stranger overcome us, and put us to shame.

8E tendo feito isso, reuniram-se no mesmo lugar e disseram a Filipe: Temos doutrinas de nossos pais nas quais nos agradamos, buscando conhecimento; mas se você tem algo novo, ó estranho, mostre-o para nós sem inveja ousadamente: pois não precisamos de mais nada, mas apenas de ouvir algo novo.

8And having done so, they came together to the same place, and say to Philip: We have doctrines of our fathers in which we are pleased, seeking after knowledge; but if thou hast anything new, O stranger, show it to us without envy boldly: for we have need of nothing else, but only to hear something new.

9E Filipe, respondendo, disse-lhes: Ó filósofos da Hélade, se vocês desejam ouvir algo novo, e estão desejosos de algo novo, vocês deveriam jogar fora de vocês a disposição do velho homem; como disse meu Senhor: É impossível colocar vinho novo em odres velhos, pois o odre estourou, o vinho foi derramado e o odre destruído.

9And Philip answering, said to them: O philosophers of Hellas, if you wish to hear some new thing, and are desirous of something new, you ought to throw away from you the disposition of the old man; as my Lord said, It is impossible to put new wine into old bottles, since the bottle is burst, and the wine spilled, and the bottle destroyed.

10Mas colocam vinho novo em odres novos, para que ambos se conservem.

10But they put new wine into fresh bottles, so that both may be preserved.

11E estas coisas o Senhor disse em parábolas, ensinando-nos na Sua santa sabedoria, que muitos amarão o vinho novo, não tendo odre fresco e novo.

11And these things the Lord said in parables, teaching us in His holy wisdom, that many will love the new wine, not having a bottle fresh and new.

12E eu amo vocês, ó homens da Hélade, e os parabenizo por terem dito: Nós amamos algo novo.

12And I love you, O men of Hellas, and I congratulate you for having said, We love something new.

13Para instrução realmente nova e fresca, meu Senhor trouxe ao mundo, a fim de que Ele pudesse varrer toda instrução mundana.

13For instruction really new and fresh my Lord has brought into the world, in order that He might sweep away all worldly instruction.

14Os filósofos dizem: Quem é que chamas de teu Senhor? Filipe diz: Meu Senhor é Jesus no céu.

14The philosophers say: Who is it that thou callest thy Lord? Philip says: My Lord is Jesus in heaven.

15E eles lhe disseram: Mostra-o à nossa compreensão sem inveja, para que também nós acreditemos nele.

15And they said to him: Show him to our comprehension without envy, that we also may believe in him.

16E Filipe disse: Aquele a quem vou apresentar-te como Senhor, está acima de todo nome; não há outro.

16And Philip said: He with whom I am about to make you acquainted as Lord, is above every name; there is no other.

17E só digo isto: como disseste, não nos recuses por inveja, não deixe que eu te recuse; mas antes com grande exultação e com grande alegria devo revelar-vos esse nome, pois não tenho outra obra neste mundo senão esta proclamação.

17And this only I say: As you have said, Do not refuse us through envy, let it not be that I should refuse you; but rather in great exultation and in great joy I have to reveal to you that name, for I have no other work in this world than this proclamation.

18Pois quando meu Senhor veio a este mundo, Ele nos escolheu, sendo doze em número, e nos encheu do Espírito Santo; da Sua luz Ele nos fez saber quem Ele era e nos ordenou que anunciássemos toda a salvação por meio Dele, porque não há outro nome nomeado no céu além deste.

18For when my Lord came into this world, He chose us, being twelve in number, having filled us with the Holy Spirit; from His light He made us know who He was, and commanded us to preach all salvation through Him, because there is no other name named out of heaven than this.

19Por esta razão vim até vocês, para torná-los plenamente seguros, não apenas em palavras, mas também na manifestação de obras maravilhosas em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

19On this account I have come to you, to make you fully assured, not in word only, but also in the showing forth of wonderful works in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

20E quando os filósofos ouviram isso, disseram a Filipe: Este nome que de ti ouvimos falar, nunca o encontramos nos livros de nossos pais; agora, portanto, como podemos saber sobre tuas palavras? E além disso, disseram-lhe: Concede-nos três dias, para que nos consultemos sobre este nome; pois não colocamos muita ênfase nisso - apostatar da religião de nossos pais.

20And when the philosophers heard this, they say to Philip: This name that has been heard of by us from thee we have never found in the books of our fathers; now, therefore, how can we know about thy words? And moreover, in addition, they say to him: Allow us three days, that we may consult with each other about this name; for we lay no little stress upon this—to apostatize from our fathers' religion.

21Filipe, portanto, diz-lhes: Consultem como quiserem; pois não há engano no assunto.

21Philip therefore says to them: Consult as you wish; for there is no deceit in the matter.

22E os trezentos filósofos, tendo-se reunido, falaram entre si, dizendo: Vocês sabem que este homem trouxe uma filosofia estranha, e as palavras ditas por ele nos distraem.

22And the three hundred philosophers having assembled, spoke with each other, saying: You know that this man has brought a strange philosophy, and the words spoken by him bring us to distraction.

23O que, então, faremos a respeito dele, ou do nome daquele que se chama Jesus, o rei dos séculos, de quem ele fala? E além disso dizem uns aos outros: Certamente não podemos argumentar com ele, mas o sumo sacerdote dos judeus pode.

23What, then, shall we do about him, or about the name of him who is called Jesus, the king of the ages, whom he speaks of? And moreover they say to each other: Assuredly we cannot reason with him, but the high priest of the Jews can.

24Se, portanto, parece bom, enviemos a ele, para que ele possa enfrentar esse estranho, e para que possamos aprender com precisão o nome que é pregado.

24If therefore it seem good, let us send to him, in order that he may stand up to this stranger, and that we may learn accurately the name that is preached.

25Eles escreveram, portanto, a Jerusalém desta maneira: - Os filósofos da Hélade a Ananias, o grande sumo sacerdote dos judeus em Jerusalém.

25They wrote therefore to Jerusalem after this manner:—The philosophers of Hellas to Ananias, the great high priest of the Jews in Jerusalem.

26Existe sempre grande entre você e nós... como você sabe que nós, atenienses, buscamos a verdade.

26There being between thee and us at all times great…as thou knowest that we Athenians are searchers after truth.

27Um certo estrangeiro veio para a Hélade, de nome Philip; e, em uma palavra, ele nos perturbou excessivamente, tanto com palavras quanto com milagres extraordinários, e apresenta um nome glorioso, Jesus, professando ser seu discípulo.

27A certain foreigner has come to Hellas, Philip by name; and, in a word, he has disturbed us exceedingly, both by words and by extraordinary miracles, and he introduces a glorious name, Jesus, professing himself to be his disciple.

28E ele também faz maravilhas sobre as quais vos escrevemos, pois expulsou demônios que há muito existiam nos homens, e faz os surdos ouvirem, os cegos verem; e o que é mais maravilhoso - o que também deveríamos ter mencionado primeiro - ele ressuscitou homens depois de mortos, que completaram razoavelmente o número de seus dias.

28And he does also wonders of which we write to you, in that he has cast out demons that have been long in men, and makes the deaf hear, the blind see; and what is more wonderful—which also we should have first mentioned—he has raised up men after they were dead, that have fairly completed the number of their days.

29E a fama dele se espalhou por toda a Hélade e Macedônia; e muitos vêm a ele das cidades vizinhas, trazendo aqueles que estão doentes com várias doenças, e ele cura todos eles em nome de Jesus.

29And the fame of him has gone abroad into all Hellas and Macedonia; and there are many coming to him from the cities round about, bringing those who are ill with various diseases, and he heals them all through the name of Jesus.

30Por isso, portanto, venha até nós sem qualquer relutância, para que você mesmo possa nos anunciar o que Jesus, esse nome que ele ensina, significa.

30On this account, therefore, come to us without any reluctance, that thou thyself mayst announce to us what Jesus, this name which he teaches, means.

31Pois também por esta razão te enviamos esta carta, ó sumo sacerdote.

31For on this account also we have sent this letter to thee, O high priest.

32E depois de ler, encheu-se de grande ira, rasgou as suas roupas e disse: Será que aquele enganador foi até Atenas, entre os filósofos, para desencaminhá-los? E o Mansemat – isto é, Satanás – entrou em Ananias de surpresa e o encheu de raiva e fúria; e ele disse: Se eu permitir que o próprio Filipe e os que estão com ele vivam, a lei será totalmente destruída e seus ensinamentos provavelmente encherão toda a terra.

32And when he had read, he was filled with great wrath, and rent his clothes, and said: Has that deceiver gone even to Athens, among the philosophers, to lead them astray? And the Mansemat—that is, Satan—entered into Ananias unawares, and filled him with anger and rage; and he said: If I allow that Philip himself, and those with him, to live, the law will be entirely destroyed, and their teaching will likely fill the whole earth.

33E o sumo sacerdote entrou em sua casa, e os mestres da lei, e os fariseus; e consultaram-se entre si, dizendo: Que faremos a respeito destas coisas? E eles disseram ao sumo sacerdote Ananias: Levanta-te e arma-te, e quinhentos homens capazes do povo, e vai para Atenas, e por todos os meios mata Filipe, e assim derrubarás o seu ensino.

33And the high priest went into his own house, and the teachers of the law, and the Pharisees; and they consulted with each other, saying: What shall we do about these things? And they say to the high priest Ananias: Stand up and arm thyself, and five hundred able men out of the people, and go away to Athens, and by all means kill Philip, and thus thou shalt overturn his teaching.

34E tendo vestido o manto de sumo sacerdote, ele veio para a Hélade com grande pompa, com os quinhentos homens.

34And having put on the high priest's robe, he came to Hellas in great pomp, with the five hundred men.

35E Filipe estava em casa de um certo chefe da cidade, com os irmãos que tinham crido.

35And Philip was in the house of a certain chief man of the city, with the brethren who had believed.

36E o sumo sacerdote e os que estavam com ele, e os trezentos filósofos, subiram à porta da casa onde Filipe estava; e foi dito a Filipe que eles estavam lá fora.

36And the high priest and those with him, and the three hundred philosophers, went up to the gateway of the house where Philip was; and it was told Philip that they were outside.

37E ele se levantou e saiu.

37And he rose up and went out.

38E quando o sumo sacerdote o viu, disse-lhe: Ó Filipe, feiticeiro e mago, porque eu te conheço, que em Jerusalém o teu mestre, o enganador, te chamou de Filho do Trovão.

38And when the high priest saw him, he says to him: O Philip, sorcerer and magician, for I know thee, that in Jerusalem thy master the deceiver called thee Son of Thunder.

39Não te bastava toda a Judéia, mas vieste aqui também para enganar os homens que buscam a sabedoria? E Filipe disse: Oxalá, ó Ananias, a tua cobertura de incredulidade fosse tirada do teu coração, para que pudesses conhecer as minhas palavras e delas aprender se eu sou um enganador ou tu! Ananias, ouvindo isto, disse a Filipe: Responderei a todos.

39Was not the whole of Judaea sufficient for you, but you have come here also to deceive men who are searchers after wisdom? And Philip said: Would that, O Ananias, thy covering of unbelief were taken away from thy heart, that thou mightst know my words, and from them learn whether I am a deceiver, or thou! Ananias having heard this, said to Philip: I shall give answer to all.

40E Filipe disse: Fala.

40And Philip said: Speak.

41O sumo sacerdote diz: Ó homens da Hélade, este Filipe acredita em um homem chamado Jesus, que nasceu entre nós, que também ensinou esta heresia, e destruiu a lei e o templo, e reduziu a nada a purificação através de Moisés, e as luas novas, porque ele diz: Estas não foram ordenadas por Deus.

41The high priest says: O men of Hellas, this Philip believes in a man called Jesus, who was born among us, who also taught this heresy, and destroyed the law and the temple, and brought to nought the purification through Moses, and the new moons, because he says, These have not been commanded by God.

42E quando vimos que ele assim destruiu a lei, levantamo-nos contra ele e o crucificamos, para que o seu ensino não se cumprisse.

42And when we saw that he thus destroyed the law, we stood up against him, and crucified him, that his teaching might not be fulfilled.

43Pois muitas mudanças foram trazidas por ele; e ele deu mau testemunho, pois comia todas as coisas em comum e misturava-as com sangue, à maneira dos gentios.

43For many changes were brought in by him; and he gave an evil testimony, for he ate all things in common, and mixed with blood, after the manner of the Gentiles.

44E, entregando-o, nós o matamos e o sepultamos num túmulo; e esses discípulos que o roubaram proclamaram em todos os lugares que ele ressuscitou dos mortos e desencaminharam uma grande multidão ao professarem que ele está à direita de Deus no céu.

44And having given him up, we put him to death, and buried him in a tomb; and these disciples of his having stolen him, have proclaimed everywhere that he has risen from the dead, and have led astray a great multitude by professing that he is at the right hand of God in heaven.

45Mas agora estes homens, tendo eles próprios a circuncisão como nós também, não a seguiram, visto que começaram a fazer muitos feitos de poder em Jerusalém através do nome de Jesus; e tendo sido expulsos de Jerusalém, eles andam pelo mundo, e enganam todos os homens pela magia daquele Jesus, como também agora este Filipe veio até vós para vos enganar pelos mesmos meios.

45But now these men, themselves having the circumcision as we also have, have not followed it, since they began to do many deeds of power in Jerusalem through the name of Jesus; and having been cast out of Jerusalem, they go about the world, and deceive all men by the magic of that Jesus, as also now this Philip has come to you to deceive you by the same means.

46Mas eu o levarei comigo para Jerusalém, porque o rei Arquelau também o procura para matá-lo.

46But I shall carry him away with myself to Jerusalem, because Archelaus the king is also searching for him to kill him.

47E quando a multidão que estava ao redor ouviu isso, aqueles que realmente haviam sido confirmados na fé não foram abalados nem vacilaram; pois sabiam que Filipe venceria na glória de Jesus.

47And when the multitude standing round heard this, those indeed who had been confirmed in the faith were not shaken nor made to waver; for they knew that Philip would conquer in the glory of Jesus.

48Filipe, portanto, expôs seu caso no poder de Cristo com grande ousadia, exultando e dizendo: Eu, ó homens de Atenas, e aqueles de vocês que são filósofos, vim até vocês, não para ensiná-los com palavras, mas pela exibição de milagres; e em parte você rapidamente viu as coisas que aconteceram através de mim, naquele nome pelo qual o próprio sumo sacerdote é rejeitado.

48Philip therefore stated his case in the power of Christ with great boldness, exulting and saying: I, O men of Athens, and those of you who are philosophers, have come to you, not to teach you with words, but by the showing forth of miracles; and in part you have quickly seen the things that have come to pass through me, in that name by which the high priest himself is cast off.

49Pois eis que clamarei ao meu Deus, e te ensinarei, e você provará as palavras de ambos.

49For, behold, I shall cry to my God, and teach you, and you will prove the words of both.

50O sumo sacerdote, ouvindo isso, correu para Filipe, querendo açoitá-lo, e naquela mesma hora toda a sua mão secou e seus olhos ficaram cegos; e da mesma maneira também os quinhentos que estavam com ele também ficaram cegos.

50The high priest having heard this, ran to Philip, wishing to scourge him, and that same hour his whole hand was dried up, and his eyes were blinded; and in like manner also the five hundred who were with him were also themselves blinded.

51E injuriaram e amaldiçoaram o sumo sacerdote, dizendo: Saindo de Jerusalém, dissemos-te: Abstém-te; pois, sendo homens, não podemos lutar contra Deus.

51And they reviled and cursed the high priest, saying: Coming out of Jerusalem we said to thee, Refrain; for, being men, we cannot fight against God.

52Mas nós te pedimos, ó Filipe, apóstolo de Deus Jesus, dá-nos a luz que vem por meio dele, para que também possamos ser verdadeiramente seus escravos.

52But we entreat thee, O Philip, apostle of the God Jesus, give us the light that is through him, that we also may truly be his slaves.

53E Filipe, tendo visto o que havia acontecido, disse: Ó natureza fraca! que se lançou sobre nós, mas imediatamente foi derrubado em si mesmo; Ó mar amargo! que levanta suas ondas contra nós e pensa em nos expulsar, mas que por si só acalma suas ondas.

53And Philip, having seen what had come to pass, said: O weak nature! which has thrown itself upon us, but straightway has been brought down low into itself; O bitter sea! which rouses its waves against us, and thinks to cast us out, but which by itself lulls its waves to rest.

54Agora, portanto, ó nosso bom mordomo Jesus, a santa luz, Tu não te esqueceste de nós que estamos todos juntos clamando a Ti em todas as boas obras, mas vieste para concluí-las através de nós.

54Now therefore, O our good steward Jesus, the holy light, Thou hast not overlooked us who are all together crying up to Thee in all good works, but hast come to finish them through us.

55Agora, pois, vem, Senhor Jesus; reprovar a loucura desses homens.

55Now therefore come, Lord Jesus; reprove the folly of these men.

56O sumo sacerdote diz a Filipe: Você pensa então em nos afastar das tradições de nossos pais, e do Deus do deserto, e de Moisés; e você imagina que nos tornará seguidores de Jesus, o Nazareno? Disse-lhe então Filipe: Eis que rogarei ao meu Deus que venha e se manifeste diante de ti e dos quinhentos, e diante de todos aqui; pois talvez você mude de ideia e acredite.

56The high priest says to Philip: Dost thou then think to turn us away from the traditions of our fathers, and the God of the desert, and Moses; and dost thou imagine that thou wilt make us followers of Jesus the Nazarene? Then Philip says to him: Behold, I shall pray to my God to come and manifest Himself before thee and the five hundred, and before all here; for perhaps thou wilt change thy mind, and believe.

57Mas se até o fim você permanecer na incredulidade, algo extraordinário acontecerá sobre você, que será falado por gerações e gerações - que você também descerá vivo, ao Hades, diante da face de todos que te veem, porque você ainda permanece na incredulidade, porque também você procura desviar esta multidão da verdadeira vida.

57But if even to the end thou remain in unbelief, there is coming upon thee an extraordinary thing, which shall be spoken of to generations of generations—that also thou shalt go down alive, down into Hades, before the face of all seeing thee, because thou yet abidest in unbelief, because also thou seekest to turn away this multitude from the true life.

58E Filipe orou, dizendo: Ó santo Pai do santo Filho Jesus Cristo, que me concedeste crer Nele, envia Teu amado Filho Jesus Cristo para repreender o sumo sacerdote incrédulo, para que Teu nome seja glorificado em Cristo, o Amado.

58And Philip prayed, saying: O holy Father of the holy Son Jesus Christ, who hast granted to me to believe in Him, send Thy beloved Son Jesus Christ to reprove the unbelieving high priest, that Thy name may be glorified in Christ the Beloved.

59E enquanto Filipe ainda clamava isso, de repente os céus se abriram e Jesus apareceu descendo na mais excelente glória e em um relâmpago; e Seu rosto brilhava sete vezes mais que o sol, e Suas vestes eram mais brancas que a neve, de modo que também todos os ídolos de Atenas caíram repentinamente no chão.

59And while Philip was yet crying out this, suddenly the heavens were opened, and Jesus appeared coming down in most excellent glory, and in lightning; and His face was shining sevenfold more than the sun, and His garments were whiter than snow, so that also all the idols of Athens fell suddenly to the ground.

60E o povo fugiu angustiado; e os demônios que habitavam entre eles clamavam: Eis que também nós fugimos daquele que apareceu à cidade, Jesus, o Filho de Deus.

60And the people fled in anguish; and the demons dwelling among them cried out: Behold, we also flee because of Him who has appeared to the city, Jesus the Son of God.

61Então Filipe disse ao sumo sacerdote: Ouves os demônios clamando por causa daquele que foi visto, e não acreditas naquele que está presente, que Ele é o Senhor de todos? O sumo sacerdote diz: Não tenho outro Deus senão aquele que está no deserto.

61Then Philip says to the high priest: Hearest thou the demons crying out because of Him who has been seen, and believest thou not in Him who is present that He is Lord of all? The high priest says: I have no other God than the one in the desert.

62E enquanto Jesus subia ao céu, houve um terremoto tão grande, que o lugar onde eles estavam se fendeu; e as multidões correram e caíram aos pés do apóstolo, clamando: Tem misericórdia de nós, ó homem de Deus! Da mesma forma, também os quinhentos homens clamaram novamente: Tem misericórdia de nós, ó Filipe, para que possamos conhecer-te, e através de ti, Jesus, a luz da vida: pois dissemos a este sumo sacerdote incrédulo: Sendo homens pecadores, não podemos lutar contra Deus.

62And as Jesus was going up into heaven there happened a very great earthquake, so that the place on which they stood was cleft; and the crowds ran and fell at the feet of the apostle, crying out: Have mercy upon us, O man of God! In like manner also the five hundred men cried out themselves also again: Have mercy upon us, O Philip, that we may know thee, and through thee Jesus the light of life: for we said to this unbelieving high priest, Being sinful men, we cannot fight against God.

63Então Filipe diz: Não há ódio em nós, mas a graça de Cristo fará com que você recupere a visão; mas farei com que o sumo sacerdote veja diante de vocês, para que vocês creiam ainda mais.

63Then Philip says: There is no hatred in us, but the grace of Christ will make you receive your sight; but I will make the high priest receive his sight before you, that at this you may the more believe.

64E uma voz do céu foi trazida a Filipe: Ó Filipe, outrora filho do trovão, mas agora da mansidão, tudo o que pedires a meu Pai, Ele te fará.

64And a voice out of heaven was brought to Philip: O Philip, son once of thunder, but now of meekness, whatever thou mayst ask of my Father, He shall do for thee.

65E toda a multidão ficou aterrorizada com a voz, pois o som dela era maior que o do trovão.

65And all the crowd was terror-struck at the voice, for the sound of it was greater than that of thunder.

66Então Filipe diz ao sumo sacerdote: Em nome do poder da voz do meu Senhor, recupera a vista, Ananias.

66Then Philip says to the high priest: In the name of the power of the voice of my Lord, receive thy sight, Ananias.

67E imediatamente ele recuperou a visão, olhou em volta e disse: O que há na magia de Jesus, que este Filipe em pouco tempo me deixou cego e novamente em pouco tempo me fez recuperar a visão? Você então, disse Filipe, acredita em Jesus? O sumo sacerdote diz: Você não acha que pode me enfeitiçar e me persuadir? E os quinhentos que estavam com ele, tendo ouvido que seu sumo sacerdote, tendo recuperado a visão, ainda era incrédulo, disseram aos presentes que orassem a Filipe para que ele os fizesse recuperar a visão, para que, disseram eles, possamos exterminar este sumo sacerdote incrédulo.

67And immediately he received his sight, and looked round, and said: What is there in the magic of Jesus, that this Philip within a short time has made me blind, and again within a short time has made me receive my sight? Dost thou then, said Philip, believe in Jesus? The high priest says: You do not think, do you, that you can bewitch me, and persuade me? And the five hundred who were with him, having heard that their high priest, having received his sight, was yet unbelieving, said to the bystanders to pray Philip that he should make them receive their sight, that, said they, we may cut off this unbelieving high priest.

68E Filipe disse: Não se vinguem dos ímpios.

68And Philip said: Do not avenge yourselves upon the wicked.

69E ele disse ao sumo sacerdote: Haverá sobre ti um grande sinal.

69And he says to the high priest: There will be a certain great sign upon thee.

70Ele diz a Filipe: Eu sei que você é um feiticeiro e um discípulo de Jesus: você não me enfeitiçará.

70He says to Philip: I know that thou art a sorcerer and a disciple of Jesus: thou dost not bewitch me.

71E o apóstolo disse a Jesus: Sabarthan, sabathabt, bramanuch, vem depressa.

71And the apostle said to Jesus: Sabarthan, sabathabt, bramanuch, come quickly.

72E imediatamente a terra se abriu no lugar onde Ananias estava, e o engoliu até os joelhos.

72And immediately the earth was cleft in the place where Ananias was, and swallowed him up as far as the knees.

73E Ananias gritou: Ó, grande é o poder da verdadeira bruxaria, porque ela fendeu a terra, quando Filipe a ameaçou em hebraico e a conjurou; e isso me segura até os joelhos, e pelos calcanhares alguns ganchos me arrastam para baixo, para que eu possa acreditar em Philip; mas ele não consegue me persuadir, pois de Jerusalém conheço seus truques de mágica.

73And Ananias cried out: O great is the power of the true witchcraft, because it has cleft the earth, when Philip threatened it in Hebrew, and adjured it; and it holds me even to the knees, and by the heels some hooks as it were drag me downwards, that I may believe in Philip; but he cannot persuade me, for from Jerusalem I know his magic tricks.

74E Filipe, enfurecido, disse: Ó terra, segura-o firmemente, até ao umbigo.

74And Philip, enraged, said: O earth, lay fast hold of him, even to the navel.

75E imediatamente isso o arrastou para baixo.

75And immediately it dragged him down.

76E ele disse: Um dos meus pés embaixo está transformado em gelo, e o outro está terrivelmente quente; mas pela tua magia, Philip, não serei vencido.

76And he said: The one of my feet underneath is turned into ice, and the other is frightfully hot; but by thy magic, Philip, I will not be overcome.

77Exceto, portanto, que estou profundamente torturado, não acredito em nada.

77Except, therefore, that I am sore tortured underneath, I do not believe at all.

78E as multidões queriam apedrejá-lo.

78And the crowds wished to stone him.

79E Filipe diz: Não; pois entretanto aconteceu isso, que ele foi engolido até o umbigo, para que a salvação de suas almas pudesse ser efetuada, porque ele quase os teria levado à incredulidade por suas palavras perversas.

79And Philip says: Not so; for this has in the meantime happened, that he has been swallowed up as far as the navel, that the salvation of your souls may be effected, because he would almost have drawn you by his wicked words into unbelief.

80Mas mesmo que ele se arrependesse, eu o tiraria da terra para a salvação de sua alma; mas certamente ele não é digno de salvação.

80But if even he repented, I should bring him up out of the earth to the salvation of his soul; but assuredly he is not worthy of salvation.

81Se, então, ele permanecer na incredulidade, você o verá afundado no abismo, a menos que o Senhor pretenda ressuscitar aqueles que estão no Hades, para que confessem que Jesus é o Senhor.

81If, then, he remain in unbelief, you shall see him sunk down into the abyss, unless the Lord intends to raise those who are in Hades, that they may confess that Jesus is Lord.

82Porque naquele dia toda língua confessará que Jesus é o Senhor, e que há uma só glória do Pai e do Filho com o Espírito Santo para sempre.

82For in that day every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord, and that there is one glory of the Father, and the Son, with the Holy Spirit for evermore.

83E Filipe, tendo dito isto, estendeu a mão direita, estendendo-a pelo ar sobre os quinhentos homens em nome de Jesus.

83And Philip, having said this, extended his right hand, stretching it through the air over the five hundred men in the name of Jesus.

84E seus olhos se abriram, e todos louvaram a Deus com uma só boca, dizendo: Nós Te bendizemos, ó Cristo Jesus, o Deus de Filipe, porque afastaste de nós a cegueira e nos deste a Tua luz, o Evangelho.

84And their eyes were opened, and they all praised God with one mouth, saying: We bless Thee, O Christ Jesus, the God of Philip, that thou hast driven the blindness away from us, and hast given us Thy light, the Gospel.

85E Filipe alegrou-se muito com as palavras deles, porque assim foram confirmados na fé.

85And Philip rejoiced exceedingly at their words, because they were thus confirmed in the faith.

86E depois disso, Filipe, voltando-se para o sumo sacerdote, disse: Confesse também com um coração puro que Jesus é o Senhor, para que sejas salvo, como aqueles que estão contigo.

86And after this, Philip, having turned to the high priest, said: Confess thou also in a pure heart that Jesus is Lord, that thou mayst be saved, like those with thee.

87Mas o sumo sacerdote riu de Filipe e permaneceu incrédulo.

87But the high priest laughed at Philip, and remained in unbelief.

88Filipe então, vendo que ele permanecia na incredulidade, tendo olhado para ele, diz à terra: Abre a tua boca e engole-o até ao pescoço, na presença dos que creram em Cristo Jesus.

88Philip then, seeing that he remained in unbelief, having looked at him, says to the earth: Open thy mouth, and swallow him up as far as his neck in the presence of those who have believed in Christ Jesus.

89E na mesma hora a terra, abrindo a boca, recebeu-o até ao pescoço.

89And in the same hour the earth, having opened its mouth, received him as far as the neck.

90E a multidão comungava entre si por causa dos prodígios que haviam acontecido.

90And the multitude communed with each other on account of the wonders that had happened.

91Um certo chefe da cidade veio clamando e dizendo: Ó abençoado apóstolo, um certo demônio atacou meu filho e gritou, dizendo-me: Já que você permitiu que um estrangeiro entrasse em sua cidade, você que foi o primeiro a acabar com nossa adoração e nossos sacrifícios, o que devo fazer por ti, exceto matar este teu filho unigênito? E depois que ele disse isso, ele estrangulou meu filho.

91A certain chief man of the city came crying out, and saying: O blessed apostle, a certain demon has assailed my son, and cried out, saying to me, Since thou hast allowed a foreigner to come into your city, thou who hast been the first to do away with our worship and our sacrifices, what shall I do for thee, except to kill this thine only begotten son? And after he said this, he strangled my son.

92Agora, pois, rogo-te, ó apóstolo de Cristo, que não permitas que a minha alegria se transforme em tristeza, porque também eu acreditei nas tuas palavras.

92Now therefore, I beseech thee, O apostle of Christ, do not allow my joy to be turned into sorrow, because I also have believed thy words.

93E o apóstolo, tendo ouvido isso, disse: Fico surpreso com a atividade dos demônios, que está ativo em todos os lugares, e ousa atacar aqueles a quem não pude ajudar, como agora eles tentaram você, desejando te ofender.

93And the apostle, having heard this, said: I wonder at the activity of the demons, that it is active in every place, and dares to assail those to whose help I have not been able to come, as now they have tried you, wishing to cause you to offend.

94E disse ao homem: Traz-me o teu filho, e eu te darei vivo, através do meu Cristo.

94And he says to the man: Bring me thy son, and I will give him to thee alive, through my Christ.

95E regozijando-se, correu para trazer seu filho.

95And rejoicing, he ran to bring his son.

96E quando chegou perto de sua casa, gritou, dizendo: Filho meu, vim a ti para te levar ao apóstolo, para que ele me apresente vivo.

96And when he came near his house, he cried out, saying: My son, I have come to thee to carry thee to the apostle, so that he may present thee to me living.

97E ordenou aos seus escravos que carregassem a cama; e seu filho tinha vinte e três anos.

97And he ordered his slaves to carry the bed; and his son was twenty-three years old.

98E quando Filipe o viu, ficou comovido; e ele se voltou para o sumo sacerdote e disse: Isto aconteceu como uma oportunidade para ti: se, portanto, eu o ressuscitar, acreditarás doravante? E ele diz: Conheço as tuas artes mágicas, para que o levantes; mas não vou acreditar em você.

98And when Philip saw him, he was moved; and he turned to the high priest, and said: This has happened as a chance for thee: if, therefore, I shall raise him up, wilt thou henceforth believe? And he says: I know your magic arts, that thou wilt raise him up; but I will not believe thee.

99E Filipe, enfurecido, disse: Maldição sobre ti! então desça completamente ao abismo diante da face de todos estes.

99And Philip, enraged, said: A curse upon thee! then go down altogether into the abyss before the face of all these.

100E na mesma hora ele desceu vivo ao Hades, exceto que o manto do sumo sacerdote voou dele; e por causa disso, a partir daquele dia, ninguém soube o que aconteceu com a veste do sacerdote.

100And at the same hour he went down into Hades alive, except that the high priest's robe flew off from him; and because of this, from that day, no one knew what became of the priest's robe.

101E o apóstolo virou-se e orou pelo menino; e tendo expulsado dele o demônio, ele o ressuscitou e o colocou vivo ao lado de seu pai.

101And the apostle turned round and prayed for the boy; and having driven the demon away from him, he raised him up, and set him beside his father alive.

102E a multidão, vendo isso, clamou: O Deus de Filipe é o único Deus, que puniu a incredulidade do sumo sacerdote, e expulsou o demônio do jovem, e o ressuscitou dentre os mortos.

102And the multitude having beheld this, cried out: The God of Philip is the only God, who has punished the unbelief of the high priest, and driven away the demon from the young man, and raised him up from the dead.

103E os quinhentos, tendo visto o sumo sacerdote ser tragado pelo abismo, e os outros milagres, rogaram a Filipe, e ele lhes deu o selo em Cristo.

103And the five hundred having seen the high priest swallowed up into the abyss, and the other miracles, besought Philip, and he gave them the seal in Christ.

104E Filipe ficou dois anos em Atenas; e tendo fundado uma igreja, nomeou um bispo e um presbítero, e assim partiu para a Pártia, pregando Cristo.

104And Philip abode in Athens two years; and having founded a church, appointed a bishop and a presbyter, and so went away to Parthia, preaching Christ.

105A quem seja a glória para sempre, Amém.

105To whom be glory for ever, Amen.
