1Atos de André e Matias: Naquela época, todos os apóstolos se reuniram no mesmo lugar e repartiram entre si as terras, lançando sortes, para que cada um pudesse ir para a parte que lhe cabia.

1Acts of Andrew and Matthias: About that time all the apostles had come together to the same place, and shared among themselves the countries, casting lots, in order that each might go away into the part that had fallen to him.

2Por sorte, então, coube a Matias partir para o país dos devoradores de homens.

2By lot, then, it fell to Matthias to set out to the country of the man-eaters.

3E os homens daquela cidade não comiam pão nem bebiam vinho; mas eles comeram carne de homens e beberam seu sangue.

3And the men of that city used neither to eat bread nor drink wine; but they ate the flesh of men, and drank their blood.

4Todos os homens, portanto, que entravam em sua cidade, eles agarraram e, cavando, arrancaram-lhe os olhos e deram-lhe uma droga para beber, preparada por feitiçaria e magia; e por beber a droga seu coração ficou alterado e sua mente perturbada.

4Every man, therefore, who came into their city they laid hold of, and digging they thrust out his eyes, and gave him a drug to drink, prepared by sorcery and magic; and from drinking the drug his heart was altered and his mind deranged.

5Tendo então Matias entrado pela porta da cidade deles, os homens daquela cidade agarraram-no e arrancaram-lhe os olhos; e depois de expulsá-los, eles o fizeram beber a droga de seu engano mágico, e o levaram para a prisão, e colocaram ao lado dele grama para comer, e ele não comeu.

5Matthias then having come into the gate of their city, the men of that city laid hold of him, and thrust out his eyes; and after putting them out they made him drink the drug of their magical deception, and led him away to the prison, and put beside him grass to eat, and he ate it not.

6Pois quando ele tomou a droga, seu coração não foi alterado, nem sua mente perturbada; mas ele continuou orando a Deus, chorando e dizendo: Senhor Jesus Cristo, por amor de quem abandonamos todas as coisas e Te seguimos, sabendo que Tu és o ajudador de todos os que esperam em Ti, atende então e vê o que eles fizeram a Matias, Teu servo, como eles me aproximaram dos brutos; pois Tu és Aquele que conhece todas as coisas.

6For when he had partaken of their drug, his heart was not altered, nor his mind deranged; but he kept praying to God, weeping, and saying: Lord Jesus Christ, for whose sake we have forsaken all things and have followed Thee, knowing that Thou art the helper of all who hope in Thee, attend then and behold what they have done to Matthias Thy servant, how they have made me nigh to the brutes; for Thou art He who knowest all things.

7Se, portanto, ordenaste que os homens ímpios desta cidade me devorassem, de modo algum fugirei de Tua dispensação.

7If, therefore, Thou hast ordained that the wicked men in this city should eat me up, I will not by any means flee from Thy dispensation.

8Conceda-me então, ó Senhor, a luz dos meus olhos, para que pelo menos eu possa ver o que os homens ímpios desta cidade têm em mãos para mim; não me abandones, ó meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, e não me entregues a esta morte amarga.

8Afford to me then, O Lord, the light of mine eyes, that at least I may behold what the wicked men in this city have in hand for me; do not forsake me, O my Lord Jesus Christ, and do not give me up to this bitter death.

9Enquanto Matias orava assim na prisão, uma luz brilhou e saiu da luz uma voz dizendo: Amado Matias, recupere a vista.

9While Matthias was thus praying in the prison, a light shone, and there came forth out of the light a voice saying: Beloved Matthias, receive thy sight.

10E imediatamente ele recuperou a visão.

10And immediately he received his sight.

11E novamente ouviu-se uma voz dizendo: Tem bom ânimo, nosso Matias, e não te assustes; pois de modo algum te abandonarei, pois te livrarei de todo perigo; e não só tu, mas também todos os teus irmãos que estão contigo: porque eu estou contigo em todo lugar e em todo tempo.

11And again there came forth a voice saying: Be of good courage, our Matthias, and be not dismayed; for I shall not by any means forsake thee, for I shall deliver thee from all danger; and not only thee, but also all thy brethren who are with thee: for I am with thee everywhere and at all times.

12Mas permaneça aqui vinte e sete dias para edificação de muitas almas; e depois disso enviarei André a ti, e ele te tirará desta prisão; e não só a ti, mas também a todos os que ouvem.

12But remain here twenty-seven days for the edification of many souls; and after that I shall send forth Andrew to thee, and he shall lead thee forth out of this prison; and not thee only, but also all who hear.

13Dito isto, o Salvador disse novamente a Matias: Paz seja contigo, nosso Matias, e foi para o céu.

13Having said this, the Saviour said again to Matthias, Peace be to thee, our Matthias, and went into heaven.

14Então Matias, vendo-o, disse ao Senhor: Deixe a tua graça habitar em mim, ó meu Senhor Jesus.

14Then Matthias having beheld Him, said to the Lord: Let thy grace abide with me, O my Lord Jesus.

15Então Matias sentou-se na prisão e cantou.

15Then Matthias therefore sat down in the prison, and sang.

16E aconteceu que, quando os algozes entraram na prisão para trazer os homens para comê-los, Matias também fechou os olhos, para que não vissem o que ele via.

16And it came to pass that, when the executioners came into the prison to bring forth the men to eat them, Matthias also shut his eyes, that they might not behold that he saw.

17E os carrascos, chegando-se a ele, leram o bilhete que tinha na mão e disseram entre si: Ainda três dias, e também tiraremos este da prisão e o mataremos.

17And the executioners having come to him, read the ticket in his hand, and said among themselves: Yet three days, and we shall bring out this one also from the prison, and slay him.

18Porque no caso de cada homem a quem prenderam, eles anotaram o dia em que o prenderam e amarraram uma passagem em sua mão direita, para que pudessem saber o término dos trinta dias.

18Because in the case of every man whom they laid hold of, they noted that day on which they laid hold of him, and tied a ticket to his right hand, that they might know the completion of the thirty days.

19E aconteceu que, quando se cumpriram os vinte e sete dias desde que Matias foi preso, o Senhor apareceu na região onde André ensinava e disse-lhe: Levanta-te e parte com os teus discípulos para a terra dos devoradores de homens, e tira Matias daquele lugar; por ainda três dias, e os homens da cidade o trarão e matarão para comer.

19And it came to pass when the twenty-seven days were fulfilled since Matthias was seized, the Lord appeared in the country where Andrew was teaching, and said to him: Rise up, and set out with thy disciples to the country of the man-eaters, and bring forth Matthias out of that place; for yet three days, and the men of the city will bring him forth and slay him for their food.

20E André respondeu e disse: Meu Senhor, não poderei completar a viagem para lá antes do período limitado de três dias; mas envia depressa o teu anjo, para que o tire dali; porque tu sabes, Senhor, que eu também sou carne e não poderei ir para lá rapidamente.

20And Andrew answered and said: My Lord, I shall not be able to accomplish the journey thither before the limited period of the three days; but send Thine angel quickly, that he may bring him out thence: for thou knowest, Lord, that I also am flesh, and shall not be able to go there quickly.

21E Ele diz a André: Obedeça Aquele que te fez, e Aquele que é capaz de dizer uma palavra, e aquela cidade será removida dali, e todos os que nela habitam.

21And He says to Andrew: Obey Him who made thee, and Him who is able to say in a word, and that city shall be removed thence, and all that dwell in it.

22Pois eu dou ordens aos chifres dos ventos, e eles o conduzem dali.

22For I command the horns of the winds, and they drive it thence.

23Mas levanta-te cedo e desce ao mar com os teus discípulos, e encontrarás um barco na praia, e embarcarás com os teus discípulos.

23But rise up early, and go down to the sea with thy disciples, and thou shalt find a boat upon the shore, and thou shalt go aboard with thy disciples.

24E tendo dito isso, o Salvador disse novamente: Paz contigo, André, junto com aqueles que estão contigo! E Ele foi para os céus.

24And having said this, the Saviour again said: Peace to thee, Andrew, along with those with thee! And He went into the heavens.

25E André, tendo-se levantado cedo, dirigiu-se para o mar com os seus discípulos; e tendo descido à praia, viu um pequeno barco, e no barco três homens sentados.

25And Andrew having risen up early, proceeded to the sea along with his disciples; and having come down to the shore, he saw a little boat, and in the boat three men sitting.

26Pois o Senhor, por Seu próprio poder, preparou um barco, e Ele era em forma humana, um piloto no barco; e Ele trouxe dois anjos que Ele fez parecerem homens, e eles estavam sentados no barco.

26For the Lord by His own power had prepared a boat, and He it was in human shape a pilot in the boat; and He brought two angels whom He made to appear like men, and they were in the boat sitting.

27André, portanto, tendo visto o barco e os três que nele estavam, regozijou-se com grande alegria; e indo até eles, disse: Para onde vão, irmãos, com este barquinho? E o Senhor respondeu e disse-lhe: Vamos para o país dos devoradores de homens.

27Andrew, therefore, having beheld the boat, and the three who were in it, rejoiced with exceeding great joy; and having gone to them, he said: Where are you going, brethren, with this little boat? And the Lord answered and said to him: We are going to the country of the man-eaters.

28E André, tendo visto Jesus, não o reconheceu; pois Jesus estava escondendo Sua Divindade e apareceu a André como um piloto.

28And Andrew having beheld Jesus, did not recognise Him; for Jesus was hiding His Godhead, and He appeared to Andrew like a pilot.

29E Jesus, tendo ouvido André dizer: Eu também vou para o país dos devoradores de homens, disse-lhe: Todo homem evita aquela cidade, e como você vai para lá? E André respondeu e disse: Temos alguns pequenos negócios para fazer lá e devemos resolver isso; mas se puder, faça-nos a gentileza de nos levar ao país dos devoradores de homens, para onde também pretende ir.

29And Jesus having heard Andrew saying, I too am going to the country of the man-eaters, says to him: Every man avoids that city, and how are you going there? And Andrew answered and said: We have some small business to do there, and we must get through with it; but if thou canst, do us this kindness to convey us to the country of the man-eaters, to which also you intend to go.

30Jesus respondeu e disse-lhes: Subam a bordo.

30Jesus answered and said to them: Come on board.

31E André disse: Desejo dar-te algumas explicações, jovem, antes de embarcarmos no teu barco.

31And Andrew said: I wish to make some explanation to thee, young man, before we come on board thy boat.

32E Jesus disse: Diga o que quiser.

32And Jesus said: Say what thou wilt.

33E André lhe disse: Não temos dinheiro de passagem para te dar; não temos nem pão para nos alimentar.

33And Andrew said to Him: We have no passage-money to give thee; we have not even bread for our nourishment.

34E Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Como, então, vais embora sem nos dar o dinheiro da passagem, e sem ter pão para tua alimentação? E André disse a Jesus: Ouve, irmão; não penses que é por maestria que não te damos o dinheiro da passagem, mas somos discípulos de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, o bom Deus.

34And Jesus answered and said to him: How, then, are you going away without giving us the passage-money, and without having bread for your nourishment? And Andrew said to Jesus, Listen, brother; do not think that it is through masterfulness that we do not give thee our passage-money, but we are disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, the good God.

35Porque Ele escolheu para Si nós doze, e nos deu tal mandamento, dizendo: Quando fores pregar, não leveis dinheiro na viagem, nem pão, nem bolsa, nem sapatos, nem bordão, nem dois casacos.

35For He chose for Himself us twelve, and gave us such a commandment, saying, When you go to preach, do not carry money in the journey, nor bread, nor bag, nor shoes, nor staff, nor two coats.

36Se, portanto, você nos fizer a gentileza, irmão, diga-nos imediatamente; se não, avise-nos e iremos procurar outro barco para nós.

36If, therefore, thou wilt do us the kindness, brother, tell us at once; if not, let us know, and we shall go and seek another boat for ourselves.

37E Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Se este é o mandamento que recebeste e o guardas, sobe a bordo do meu barco com toda alegria.

37And Jesus answered and said to Andrew: If this is the commandment which you received, and you keep it, come on board my boat with all joy.

38Pois eu realmente desejo que vocês, discípulos daquele que se chama Jesus, venham a bordo do meu barco, e não aqueles que me dão sua prata e seu ouro; pois sou totalmente digno de que o apóstolo do Senhor venha a bordo do meu barco.

38For I really wish you, the disciples of Him who is called Jesus, to come on board my boat, rather than those who give me of their silver and gold; for I am altogether worthy that the apostle of the Lord should come on board my boat.

39E André respondeu e disse: Permita-me, irmão, que o Senhor lhe conceda glória e honra.

39And Andrew answered and said: Permit me, brother, may the Lord grant thee glory and honour.

40E André entrou no barco com seus discípulos.

40And Andrew went on board the boat with his disciples.

41E, tendo embarcado, sentou-se junto à vela do barco.

41And having gone on board, he sat down by the boat's sail.

42E Jesus respondeu e disse a um dos anjos: Levanta-te e desce ao porão do barco, e traze três pães, para que os homens comam, para que não tenham fome, por terem vindo até nós de uma longa viagem.

42And Jesus answered and said to one of the angels: Rise and go down to the hold of the boat, and bring up three loaves, that the men may eat, lest perchance they be hungry, from having come to us off a long journey.

43E ele se levantou e desceu ao porão do barco, e trouxe três pães, como o Senhor lhe ordenara; e ele lhes deu os pães.

43And he rose and went down to the hold of the boat, and brought up three loaves, as the Lord commanded him; and he gave them the loaves.

44Então Jesus disse a André: Levanta-te, irmão, com os teus amigos; coma, para que você seja forte para suportar as agitações do mar.

44Then Jesus said to Andrew: Rise up, brother, with thy friends; partake of food, that you may be strong to bear the tossing of the sea.

45E André respondeu e disse aos seus discípulos: Meus filhos, encontramos grande bondade por parte deste homem.

45And Andrew answered and said to his disciples: My children, we have found great kindness from this man.

46Levante-se, então, e coma do alimento do pão, para que você possa ser forte para suportar as agitações do mar.

46Stand up, then, and partake of the nourishment of bread, that you may be strong to bear the tossing of the sea.

47E os seus discípulos não lhe puderam responder palavra alguma, porque estavam angustiados por causa do mar.

47And his disciples were not able to answer him a word, for they were in distress because of the sea.

48Então Jesus forçou André a participar também do alimento do pão junto com seus discípulos.

48Then Jesus forced Andrew to partake himself also of the nourishment of bread along with his disciples.

49E André respondeu e disse a Jesus, sem saber que era Jesus: Irmão, que o Senhor te dê o pão celestial do Seu reino.

49And Andrew answered and said to Jesus, not knowing that it was Jesus: Brother, may the Lord give thee heavenly bread out of His kingdom.

50Permita-me então irmão; porque vês que os filhos estão angustiados por causa do mar.

50Allow me then brother; for thou seest the children, that they are distressed because of the sea.

51E Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Certamente os irmãos não têm experiência no mar; mas pergunte-lhes se eles querem ir para a terra e você permanecer, até que você termine seus negócios e volte novamente para eles.

51And Jesus answered and said to Andrew: Assuredly the brethren are without experience of the sea; but inquire of them whether they want to go to land, and thyself to remain, until thou shalt finish thy business, and again come back to them.

52Então André disse aos seus discípulos: Meus filhos, quereis ir para aquela terra e que eu fique aqui até terminar o trabalho para o qual fui enviado? E eles responderam e disseram a André: Se nos afastarmos de ti, poderemos nos tornar estranhos às coisas boas que o Senhor nos providenciou.

52Then Andrew said to his disciples: My children, do you wish to go to the land, and me to remain here until I shall finish my business for which I have been sent? And they answered and said to Andrew: If we go away from thee, may we become strangers to the good things which the Lord hath provided for us.

53Agora, portanto, estamos contigo, onde quer que você vá.

53Now, therefore, we are with thee, wherever thou mayst go.

54Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Se és verdadeiramente discípulo daquele que se chama Jesus, conta aos teus discípulos os milagres que o teu Mestre fez, para que a alma deles se regozije e esqueçam o medo do mar; pois eis que vamos tirar o barco da terra.

54Jesus answered and said to Andrew: If thou art truly a disciple of Him who is called Jesus, tell thy disciples the miracles which thy Teacher did, that their soul may rejoice, and that they may forget the fear of the sea; for, behold, we are going to take the boat off from the land.

55E imediatamente Jesus disse a um dos anjos: Larga o barco; e ele soltou o barco da terra.

55And immediately Jesus said to one of the angels: Let go the boat; and he let go the boat from the land.

56E Jesus veio e sentou-se ao lado do leme e dirigiu o barco.

56And Jesus came and sat down beside the rudder, and steered the boat.

57Então André exortou e confortou os seus discípulos, dizendo: Meus filhos, que entregaram a vossa vida ao Senhor, não temam; porque o Senhor não te abandonará para sempre.

57Then Andrew exhorted and comforted his disciples, saying: My children, who have given up your life to the Lord, fear not; for the Lord will not at all forsake you for ever.

58Pois naquele tempo, quando eu estava a sós com nosso Senhor, subimos a bordo do barco com Ele, e Ele se deitou para dormir no barco, provando-nos; pois Ele não estava dormindo profundamente.

58For at that time when I was alone with our Lord, we went on board the boat with Him, and He lay down to sleep in the boat, trying us; for He was not fast asleep.

59E surgiu um grande vento, e o mar estava tempestuoso, de modo que as ondas se levantaram e ficaram sob a vela do barco, e quando estávamos com grande medo, o Senhor se levantou e repreendeu os ventos, e houve calmaria no mar; porque todas as coisas O temiam, como sendo feitas por Ele.

59And a great wind having arisen, and the sea being stormy, so that the waves were uplifted, and came under the sail of the boat, and when we were in great fear, the Lord stood up and rebuked the winds, and there was a calm in the sea; for all things feared Him, as being made by Him.

60Agora, portanto, meus filhos, não temam.

60Now, therefore, my children, fear not.

61Pois o Senhor Jesus não nos abandonará de forma alguma.

61For the Lord Jesus will not at all forsake us.

62E tendo dito isto, o santo André orou em seu coração para que seus discípulos fossem levados a dormir.

62And having said this, the holy Andrew prayed in his heart that his disciples might be led to sleep.

63E enquanto André orava, seus discípulos adormeceram.

63And as Andrew was praying, his disciples fell asleep.

64E André, voltando-se para o Senhor, sem saber que era o Senhor, disse-lhe: Diga-me, ó homem, e mostre-me a habilidade de sua direção; pois nunca vi nenhum homem tão navegando no mar como agora te vejo.

64And Andrew, turning round to the Lord, not knowing that it was the Lord, said to Him: Tell me, O man, and show me the skill of thy steering; for I have never seen any man so steering in the sea as I now see thee.

65Durante dezesseis anos naveguei pelo mar, e eis que este é o décimo sétimo, e nunca vi tal habilidade; pois na verdade o barco é como se estivesse em terra firme.

65For sixteen years have I sailed the sea, and behold this is the seventeenth, and I have not seen such skill; for truly the boat is just as if on land.

66Mostre-me então, jovem, sua habilidade.

66Show me then, young man, thy skill.

67Então Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Nós também navegamos muitas vezes pelo mar e estivemos em perigo; mas como és discípulo d’Aquele chamado Jesus, o mar te reconheceu que és justo, e se acalmou, e não levantou suas ondas contra o barco.

67Then Jesus answered and said to Andrew: We also have often sailed the sea, and been in danger; but since thou art a disciple of Him called Jesus, the sea has recognised thee that thou art righteous, and has become calm, and has not lifted its waves against the boat.

68Então André gritou em alta voz, dizendo: Agradeço-Te, meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, por ter conhecido um homem que glorifica o Teu nome.

68Then Andrew cried out with a loud voice, saying: I thank Thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, that I have met a man who glorifies Thy name.

69E Jesus respondeu e disse: Ó André, diga-me, tu, discípulo daquele chamado Jesus, por isso os judeus incrédulos não acreditaram nele, dizendo que ele não era Deus, mas homem.

69And Jesus answered and said: O Andrew, tell me, thou disciple of Him called Jesus, wherefore the unbelieving Jews did not believe in Him, saying that He was not God, but man.

70Mostra-me, ó discípulo d’Aquele chamado Jesus; pois ouvi dizer que Ele mostrou a Sua Divindade aos Seus discípulos.

70Show me, O disciple of Him called Jesus; for I have heard that He showed His Godhead to His disciples.

71E André respondeu e disse: Verdadeiramente, irmão, Ele nos mostrou que Ele era Deus.

71And Andrew answered and said: Truly, brother, He showed us that He was God.

72Não pense, então, que Ele é homem.

72Do not think, then, that He is man.

73Pois Ele fez o céu, e a terra, e o mar, e tudo o que neles há.

73For He made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that is in them.

74E Jesus respondeu e disse: Como então os judeus não acreditaram nele? Talvez Ele não tenha feito milagres diante deles? André disse: Você não ouviu falar dos milagres que Ele fez antes deles? Ele fez os cegos verem, os coxos andarem, os surdos ouvirem; Ele purificou os leprosos, transformou a água em vinho; e tomando cinco pães e dois peixes, fez reclinar uma multidão na grama e, abençoando, deu-lhes de comer; e os que comeram foram cinco mil homens, e ficaram fartos; e recolheram o que lhes restava doze cestos de pedaços.

74And Jesus answered and said: How then did the Jews not believe Him? Perhaps He did not do miracles before them? Andrew said: Hast thou not heard of the miracles which He did before them? He made the blind see, the lame walk, the deaf hear; He cleansed lepers, He changed water into wine; and having taken five loaves and two fishes, He made a crowd recline on the grass, and having blessed, He gave them to eat; and those that ate were five thousand men, and they were filled: and they took up what was over to them twelve baskets of fragments.

75E depois de todas essas coisas eles não acreditaram nele.

75And after all these things they did not believe Him.

76E Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Talvez Ele tenha feito esses milagres diante do povo, e não diante dos principais sacerdotes, e por isso eles não acreditaram nele.

76And Jesus answered and said to Andrew: Perhaps He did these miracles before the people, and not before the chief priests, and because of this they did not believe Him.

77E André respondeu e disse: Não, irmão, Ele também fez isso diante dos principais sacerdotes, não apenas abertamente, mas também em segredo, e eles não acreditaram nele.

77And Andrew answered and said: Nay, brother, He did them also before the chief priests, not only openly, but also in secret, and they did not believe Him.

78Jesus respondeu e disse: Quais são os milagres que Ele fez em segredo? Divulgue-os para mim.

78Jesus answered and said: What are the miracles which He did in secret? Disclose them to me.

79E André respondeu e disse: Ó homem, que tens espírito de curiosidade, por que me põe à prova? E Jesus respondeu e disse: Não te ponho à prova dizendo isto, ó discípulo daquele que se chama Jesus; mas a minha alma se alegra e exulta, e não só a minha, mas também de toda alma que ouve as maravilhas de Jesus.

79And Andrew answered and said: O man, who hast the spirit of inquisitiveness, why dost thou put me to the test? And Jesus answered and said: I do not put thee to the test by saying this, O disciple of Him called Jesus; but my soul rejoices and exults, and not only mine, but also every soul that hears the wonders of Jesus.

80E André respondeu e disse: Ó filho, o Senhor encherá tua alma com toda alegria e todo bem, como você me convenceu agora a relatar a ti os milagres que nosso Senhor fez em segredo.

80And Andrew answered and said: O child, the Lord shall fill thy soul with all joy and all good, as thou hast persuaded me now to relate to thee the miracles which our Lord did in secret.

81Aconteceu que quando nós, os doze discípulos, íamos com nosso Senhor ao templo dos gentios, para que Ele nos revelasse a ignorância do diabo, quando os principais sacerdotes, tendo-nos visto seguindo Jesus, nos disseram: Ó desgraçados, por que andais com aquele que diz: Eu sou o Filho de Deus? Você quer dizer que Deus tem um filho? Qual de vocês já viu Deus se associando com uma mulher? Não é este o filho de José, o carpinteiro, e sua mãe é Maria, e seus irmãos Tiago e Simão? E quando ouvimos estas palavras, nossos corações ficaram fracos.

81It came to pass as we, the twelve disciples, were going with our Lord into a temple of the Gentiles, that He might make known to us the ignorance of the devil, that the chief priests, having beheld us following Jesus, said to us, O wretches, why do you walk with him who says, I am the Son of God? Do you mean to say that God has a son? Which of you has ever at any time seen God associating with a woman? Is not this the son of Joseph the carpenter, and his mother is Mary, and his brothers James and Simon? And when we heard these words, our hearts were turned into weakness.

82E Jesus, sabendo que nossos corações estavam cedendo, nos levou a um lugar deserto, e fez grandes milagres diante de nós, e nos mostrou toda a Sua Divindade.

82And Jesus, having known that our hearts were giving way, took us into a desert place, and did great miracles before us, and displayed to us all His Godhead.

83And we spoke to the chief priests, saying, Come ye also, and see; pois eis que Ele nos convenceu.

83And we spoke to the chief priests, saying, Come ye also, and see; for, behold, He has persuaded us.

84E os principais sacerdotes, vindo, foram conosco; e quando entramos no templo dos gentios, Jesus nos mostrou o céu, para que pudéssemos saber se as coisas eram verdadeiras ou não.

84And the chief priests having come, went with us; and when we had gone into the temple of the Gentiles, Jesus showed us the heaven, that we might know whether the things were true or not.

85E entraram conosco trinta homens do povo e quatro principais sacerdotes.

85And there went in along with us thirty men of the people, and four chief priests.

86E Jesus, olhando para a direita e para a esquerda do templo, viu duas esfinges esculpidas, uma à direita e outra à esquerda.

86And Jesus, having looked on the right hand and on the left of the temple, saw two sculptured sphinxes, one on the right and one on the left.

87E Jesus, voltando-se para nós, disse: Eis o sinal da cruz; porque estes são como os querubins e os serafins que estão nos céus.

87And Jesus having turned to us, said, Behold the sign of the cross; for these are like the cherubim and the seraphim which are in heaven.

88Então Jesus, olhando para a direita, onde estava a esfinge, disse-lhe: Eu te digo: tu, imagem daquilo que está no céu, que as mãos dos artesãos esculpiram, separa-te do teu lugar, e desce, e responde e condena os principais sacerdotes, e mostra-lhes se eu sou Deus ou homem.

88Then Jesus, having looked to the right, where the sphinx was, said to it, I say unto thee, thou image of that which is in heaven, which the hands of craftsmen have sculptured, be separated from thy place, and come down, and answer and convict the chief priests, and show them whether I am God or man.

89E imediatamente, naquele mesmo momento, a esfinge saiu de seu lugar e, tendo assumido uma voz humana, disse: Ó filhos tolos de Israel, não apenas a cegueira de seus próprios corações não foi suficiente para eles, mas eles também desejam que os outros sejam cegos como eles, dizendo que Deus é o homem, que no princípio formou o homem, e colocou Seu fôlego em todos, que deu movimento às coisas que não se moviam; Foi ele quem chamou Abraão, quem amou seu filho Isaque, quem trouxe de volta seu amado Jacó para sua terra; Ele é o Juiz dos vivos e dos mortos; É Ele quem prepara grandes benefícios para aqueles que O obedecem e prepara castigo para aqueles que não acreditam Nele.

89And immediately at that very time the sphinx removed from its place, and having assumed a human voice, said, O foolish sons of Israel, not only has the blinding of their own hearts not been enough for them, but they also wish others to be blind like themselves, saying that God is man, who in the beginning fashioned man, and put His breath into all, who gave motion to those things which moved not; He it is who called Abraham, who loved his son Isaac, who brought back his beloved Jacob into his land; He is the Judge of living and dead; He it is who prepareth great benefits for those who obey Him, and prepareth punishment for those who believe Him not.

90Não preste atenção ao fato de que sou um ídolo que pode ser manipulado; porque eu vos digo que os lugares sagrados da vossa sinagoga são mais excelentes.

90Heed not that I am an idol that can be handled; for I say unto you, that the sacred places of your synagogue are more excellent.

91Pois embora sejamos pedras, os sacerdotes nos deram apenas o nome de um deus; e os sacerdotes que servem no templo purificam-se, tendo medo dos demônios: porque, se tiveram relações com mulheres, purificam-se sete dias, por causa do seu medo; para que não entrem no templo por nossa causa, por causa do nome que nos deram, de que somos um deus.

91For though we are stones, the priests have given us only the name of a god; and those priests who serve the temple purify themselves, being afraid of the demons: for if they have had intercourse with women, they purify themselves seven days, because of their fear; so that they do not come into the temple because of us, because of the name which they have given us, that we are a god.

92Mas você, se você cometeu fornicação, siga a lei de Deus, e entre na sinagoga de Deus, e purifique-se, e leia, e não reverencie as palavras gloriosas de Deus.

92But you, if you have committed fornication, take up the law of God, and go into the synagogue of God, and purify, and read, and do not reverence the glorious words of God.

93Por isso vos digo que as coisas santas purifiquem as vossas sinagogas, para que também se tornem igrejas do Seu Filho unigênito.

93Because of this, I say unto you, that the holy things purify your synagogues, so that they also become churches of His only begotten Son.

94A esfinge tendo dito isso, parou de falar.

94The sphinx having said this, ceased speaking.

95E dissemos aos principais sacerdotes: Agora convém que creiais, porque até as pedras vos condenaram.

95And we said to the chief priests, Now it is fitting that you should believe, because even the stones have convicted you.

96E os judeus responderam e disseram: Por magia estas pedras falam, e vocês não pensam que é um deus? Pois se você testou o que foi dito pela pedra, você constatou seu engano.

96And the Jews answered and said, By magic these stones speak, and do not you think that it is a god? For if you have tested what has been said by the stone, you have ascertained its deception.

97Pois onde ele encontrou Abraão, ou como ele o viu? Pois Abraão morreu muitos anos antes de nascer, e como ele o conhece? E Jesus, voltando-se novamente para a imagem, disse-lhe: Porque estes não acreditam que eu falei com Abraão, vai para a terra dos cananeus, e vai para a caverna dupla no campo de Manre, onde está o corpo de Abraão, e clama fora do túmulo, dizendo: Abraão, Abraão, cujo corpo está no túmulo, e cuja alma está no paraíso, assim fala Aquele que formou o homem, que te fez desde o princípio seu amigo: Levanta-te, tu e teu filho Isaque, e o filho de teu filho Jacó, e vem aos templos dos jebuseus, para que convençamos os principais sacerdotes, a fim de que saibam que eu te conheço, e tu, comigo.

97For where did he find Abraham, or how did he see him? For Abraham died many years before he was born, and how does he know him? And Jesus, having again turned to the image, said to it, Because these believe not that I have spoken with Abraham, go away into the land of the Canaanites, and go away to the double cave in the field of Mamre, where the body of Abraham is, and cry outside of the tomb, saying, Abraham, Abraham, whose body is in the tomb, and whose soul is in paradise, thus speaks He who fashioned man, who made thee from the beginning his friend, Rise up, thou and thy son Isaac, and the son of thy son Jacob, and come to the temples of the Jebusites, that we may convict the chief priests, in order that they may know that I am acquainted with thee, and thou with me.

98E quando a esfinge ouviu estas palavras, imediatamente ela caminhou na presença de todos nós, e partiu para a terra dos cananeus, para o campo de Manre, e chorou fora do túmulo, como Deus lhe havia ordenado.

98And when the sphinx heard these words, immediately she walked about in the presence of us all, and set out for the land of the Canaanites to the field of Mamre, and cried outside of the tomb, as God had commanded her.

99E imediatamente os doze patriarcas saíram vivos do túmulo, e responderam e disseram-lhe: Para qual de nós foste enviada? E a esfinge respondeu e disse: Fui enviado aos três patriarcas para testemunho; mas entrem e descansem até o tempo da ressurreição.

99And straightway the twelve patriarchs came forth alive out of the tomb, and answered and said to her, To which of us hast thou been sent? And the sphinx answered and said, I have been sent to the three patriarchs for testimony; but do ye go in, and rest until the time of the resurrection.

100E, tendo ouvido isso, entraram no túmulo e adormeceram.

100And having heard, they went into the tomb and fell asleep.

101E os três patriarcas partiram com a esfinge até Jesus e condenaram os principais sacerdotes.

101And the three patriarchs set out along with the sphinx to Jesus, and convicted the chief priests.

102E Jesus lhes disse: Ide para os vossos lugares; e eles foram embora.

102And Jesus said to them, Go away to your places; and they went away.

103E disse também à imagem: Sobe ao teu lugar; e imediatamente ela subiu e ficou em seu lugar.

103And He said also to the image, Go up to thy place; and straightway she went up and stood in her place.

104E fez também muitos outros milagres, e não acreditaram nele; quais milagres, se eu contar, você não será capaz de suportar.

104And He did also many other miracles, and they did not believe Him; which miracles, if I shall recount, thou wilt not be able to bear.

105E Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Eu posso suportar; pois ouço com prudência palavras proveitosas.

105And Jesus answered and said to him: I can bear it; for I prudently listen to profitable words.

106E quando o barco estava prestes a chegar perto da terra, Jesus inclinou a cabeça sobre um dos seus anjos e ficou quieto.

106And when the boat was about to come near the land, Jesus bent down His head upon one of His angels, and was quiet.

107E André parou de falar; e ele também, reclinando a cabeça sobre um dos seus discípulos, adormeceu.

107And Andrew ceased speaking; and he also, reclining his head upon one of his disciples, fell asleep.

108E Jesus disse aos seus anjos: Estendam as mãos debaixo dele, e levem André e seus discípulos, e vão e coloquem-nos fora da cidade dos devoradores de homens; e depois de colocá-los no chão, volte para mim.

108And Jesus said to His angels: Spread your hands under him, and carry Andrew and his disciples, and go and put them outside of the city of the man-eaters; and having laid them on the ground, return to me.

109E os anjos fizeram como Jesus lhes ordenara, e os anjos voltaram para Jesus; e Ele subiu aos céus com os seus anjos.

109And the angels did as Jesus commanded them, and the angels returned to Jesus: and He went up into the heavens with His angels.

110E quando amanheceu, André, tendo acordado e levantado os olhos, viu-se sentado no chão; e, olhando, viu os seus discípulos dormindo no chão; pois Ele se transformou como se fosse um piloto de barco, e se humilhou, e nos apareceu como homem, nos pondo à prova.

110And when it was morning, Andrew, having awakened and looked up, found himself sitting on the ground; and having looked, he saw his disciples sleeping on the ground: and he wakened them, and said to them: Rise up, my children, and know the great dispensation that has happened to us, and learn that the Lord was with us in the boat, and we knew Him not; for He transformed Himself as if He were a pilot in the boat, and humbled Himself, and appeared to us as a man, putting us to the test.

111E André, recuperando-se, disse: Senhor, reconheci Tuas excelentes palavras, mas Tu não te manifestaste a mim, e por isso não Te conheci.

111And Andrew, recovering himself, said: Lord, I recognised Thy excellent words, but Thou didst not manifest Thyself to me, and because of this I did not know Thee.

112E seus discípulos responderam e disseram-lhe: Padre André, não pense que sabíamos quando você estava falando com ele no barco, pois estávamos sobrecarregados por um sono muito pesado; e águias desceram dos céus e elevaram nossas almas e as levaram para o paraíso no céu, e vimos grandes maravilhas.

112And his disciples answered and said to him: Father Andrew, do not think that we knew when thou wast speaking with Him in the boat, for we were weighed down by a most heavy sleep; and eagles came down out of the heavens, and lifted up our souls, and took them away into the paradise in heaven, and we saw great wonders.

113Pois vimos nosso Senhor Jesus sentado num trono de glória, e todos os anjos ao redor dele.

113For we beheld our Lord Jesus sitting on a throne of glory, and all the angels round about Him.

114Vimos também Abraão, e Isaque, e Jacó, e todos os santos; e Davi o elogiou com um cântico na sua harpa.

114We beheld also Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the saints; and David praised Him with a song upon his harp.

115E vimos ali vocês, os doze apóstolos, em pé na presença de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, e fora de vocês doze anjos ao seu redor, e cada anjo em pé atrás de cada um de vocês, e eles eram semelhantes a vocês na aparência.

115And we beheld there you the twelve apostles standing by in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and outside of you twelve angels round about you, and each angel standing behind each of you, and they were like you in appearance.

116E ouvimos o Senhor dizer aos anjos: Ouvi os apóstolos em tudo o que eles vos pedirem.

116And we heard the Lord saying to the angels, Listen to the apostles in all things whatsoever they shall ask you.

117Estas são as coisas que vimos, padre André, até que nos despertaste; e anjos, que pareciam águias, trouxeram nossas almas para nossos corpos.

117These are the things which we have seen, father Andrew, until thou didst awake us; and angels, who appeared like eagles, brought our souls into our bodies.

118Então André, tendo ouvido isso, regozijou-se com grande alegria porque seus discípulos foram considerados dignos de contemplar essas coisas maravilhosas.

118Then Andrew, having heard, rejoiced with great joy that his disciples had been deemed worthy to behold these wonderful things.

119E André olhou para o céu e disse: Aparece-me, Senhor Jesus Cristo; pois sei que não estás longe dos teus servos.

119And Andrew looked up into heaven, and said: Appear to me, Lord Jesus Christ; for I know that Thou art not far from Thy servants.

120Perdoe-me, Senhor, pelo que fiz; pois te vi como a um homem no barco e conversei contigo como a um homem.

120Pardon me, Lord, for what I have done; for I have beheld Thee as a man in the boat, and I have conversed with Thee as with a man.

121Agora, pois, Senhor, manifesta-te a mim neste lugar.

121Now therefore, Lord, manifest Thyself to me in this place.

122E quando André disse isso, Jesus apareceu-lhe na forma de uma linda criança.

122And when Andrew had said this, Jesus appeared to him in the likeness of a most beautiful little child.

123E Jesus respondeu e disse: Salve, nosso André! E André, tendo-o visto, adorou-o, dizendo: Perdoa-me, Senhor Jesus Cristo, porque te vi como um homem no mar e conversei contigo.

123And Jesus answered and said: Hail, our Andrew! And Andrew, having beheld Him, worshipped Him, saying: Pardon me, Lord Jesus Christ, for I saw Thee like a man on the sea, and conversed with Thee.

124O que há então em que pequei, meu Senhor Jesus, para que não te manifestaste a mim no mar? E Jesus respondeu e disse a André: Tu não pecaste, mas eu te fiz isso porque disseste: Não poderei ir à cidade dos devoradores de homens em três dias; e mostrei-te que sou capaz de fazer todas as coisas e de aparecer a todos como desejo.

124What is there, then, wherein I have sinned, my Lord Jesus, that Thou didst not manifest Thyself to me on the sea? And Jesus answered and said to Andrew: Thou hast not sinned, but I did this to thee because thou saidst, I shall not be able to go to the city of the man-eaters in three days; and I have showed thee that I am able to do all things, and to appear to every one as I wish.

125Levanta-te, pois, agora, vai à cidade, ter com Matias, e tira-o da prisão, bem como a todos os estrangeiros que estão com ele.

125Now therefore rise up, go into the city to Matthias, and bring him forth out of the prison, and all the strangers that are with him.

126Pois eis que eu te mostro, André, o que você deve sofrer antes de entrar nesta cidade.

126For, behold, I show thee, Andrew, what thou must suffer before going into this city.

127Eles amontoarão sobre ti torturas e insultos, e espalharão a tua carne pelos caminhos e pelas ruas, e o teu sangue correrá para o chão, mas eles não serão capazes de te matar; mas resista, assim como me viste espancado, insultado e crucificado: pois há aqueles que estão destinados a acreditar nesta cidade.

127They will heap upon thee tortures and insults, and scatter thy flesh in the ways and the streets, and thy blood shall flow to the ground, but they are not able to put thee to death; but endure, just as thou sawest me beaten, insulted, and crucified: for there are those who are destined to believe in this city.

128E tendo dito isto, o Salvador subiu aos céus.

128And having said this, the Saviour went into the heavens.

129E André entrou na cidade com os seus discípulos, e ninguém o viu.

129And Andrew went into the city along with his disciples, and no one beheld him.

130E quando ele chegou à prisão, ele viu sete carcereiros parados no portão guardando, e ele orou consigo mesmo, e eles caíram e expiraram; e ele marcou o portão com o sinal da cruz, e ele se abriu sozinho.

130And when he came to the prison, he saw seven warders standing at the gate guarding, and he prayed within himself, and they fell down and expired; and he marked the gate with the sign of the cross, and it opened of its own accord.

131E, entrando com os seus discípulos, encontrou Matias sentado e cantando; e vendo-o, levantou-se e saudaram-se com um beijo santo; e ele disse a Matias: Irmão, como foste encontrado aqui? Durante ainda três dias, e eles te tirarão para servir de alimento para eles.

131And having gone in with his disciples, he found Matthias sitting and singing; and seeing him, he stood up, and they saluted each other with a holy kiss; and he said to Matthias: Brother, how hast thou been found here? For yet three days, and they will bring thee out to be food for them.

132Onde estão os grandes mistérios que te foram ensinados e as coisas maravilhosas em que acreditamos? E Matias lhe disse: Não ouviste o Senhor dizer: Eu te enviarei como ovelhas ao meio de lobos? Eles imediatamente me levaram para a prisão e eu orei ao Senhor; e Ele me disse: Fica aqui vinte e sete dias, e eu te enviarei André, e ele te tirará da prisão.

132Where are the great mysteries which thou hast been taught, and the wonderful things which we have believed? And Matthias said to him: Didst thou not hear the Lord saying, I shall send you like sheep into the midst of wolves? They straightway brought me into the prison, and I prayed to the Lord; and He said to me, Remain here twenty-seven days, and I shall send thee Andrew, and he will bring thee forth out of the prison.

133E agora, eis que aconteceu como o Senhor disse.

133And now, behold, it has come to pass as the Lord said.

134Então André, olhando, viu três homens fechados comendo capim nus; e ele bateu no peito e disse: Considera, ó Senhor, o que os homens sofrem; como eles os tornaram semelhantes aos brutos irracionais? E ele diz a Satanás: Ai de ti, o diabo, o inimigo de Deus, e dos teus anjos, porque os estrangeiros aqui nada fizeram contigo; e como você trouxe sobre eles o castigo? por quanto tempo você guerreará contra a raça humana? Tu tiraste Adão do paraíso e fizeste com que os homens se misturassem com a transgressão; e o Senhor ficou furioso e trouxe o dilúvio para varrer o homem.

134Then Andrew, having looked, saw three men shut up eating grass naked; and he beat his breast, and said: Consider, O Lord, what the men suffer; how have they made them like the irrational brutes? And he says to Satan: Woe to thee, the devil, the enemy of God, and to thine angels, because the strangers here have done nothing to thee; and how hast thou brought upon them the punishment? how long dost thou war against the human race? Thou didst bring forth Adam out of paradise, and didst cause men to be mixed up with transgression; and the Lord was enraged, and brought on the deluge so as to sweep man away.

135E novamente você apareceu nesta cidade também, a fim de fazer com que aqueles que estão aqui comam homens, para que o fim deles também seja em execração e destruição, pensando em si mesmo que Deus varrerá a obra de Suas mãos.

135And again hast thou made thy appearance in this city too, in order that thou mayst make those who are here eat men, that the end of them also may be in execration and destruction, thinking in thyself that God will sweep away the work of His hands.

136Você não ouviu que Deus disse: Não trarei dilúvio sobre a terra? mas se houver algum castigo preparado, é para se vingar de ti.

136Hast thou not heard that God said, I will not bring a deluge upon the earth? but if there is any punishment prepared, it is for the sake of taking vengeance upon thee.

137Então ele se levantou e André e Matias oraram; e depois da oração, André impôs as mãos sobre o rosto dos cegos que estavam na prisão, e imediatamente todos recuperaram a visão.

137Then he stood up, and Andrew and Matthias prayed; and after the prayer Andrew laid his hands upon the faces of the blind men who were in the prison, and straightway they all received their sight.

138E novamente ele colocou a mão sobre seus corações, e suas mentes foram transformadas em razão humana.

138And again he laid his hand upon their hearts, and their minds were changed into human reason.

139Então André lhes respondeu: Levantai-vos, e ide às partes mais baixas da cidade, e encontrareis no caminho uma grande figueira, e assentai-vos debaixo da figueira, e comeis do seu fruto, até que eu vá ter convosco; mas se eu demorar a chegar lá, encontrareis abundância de alimento para vós; porque o fruto da figueira não faltará, mas à medida que o comerdes, produzirá mais fruto e vos alimentará, como disse o Senhor.

139Then Andrew answered them: Rise up, and go into the lower parts of the city, and you shall find in the way a great fig-tree, and sit under the fig-tree, and eat of its fruit, until I come to you; but if I delay coming there, you will find abundance of food for yourselves: for the fruit shall not fail from the fig-tree, but according as you eat it shall produce more fruit, and nourish you, as the Lord has said.

140E eles responderam e disseram a André: Vai conosco, ó nosso mestre, para que os homens ímpios desta cidade não nos vejam novamente, e nos calem, e nos inflijam torturas maiores e mais terríveis do que elas nos infligiram.

140And they answered and said to Andrew: Go along with us, O our master, lest perchance the wicked men of this city again see us, and shut us up, and inflict upon us greater and more dreadful tortures than they have inflicted upon us.

141E André respondeu e disse-lhes: Ide; pois em verdade te digo que, enquanto você for, nenhum cachorro latirá com a língua contra você.

141And Andrew answered and said to them: Go; for in truth I say to you, that as you go, not a dog shall bark with his tongue against you.

142E houve ao todo duzentos e setenta homens e quarenta e nove mulheres que André libertou da prisão.

142And there were in all two hundred and seventy men and forty-nine women whom Andrew released from the prison.

143E os homens foram como o bem-aventurado André lhes disse; e fez Matias sair com os seus discípulos pela porta oriental da cidade.

143And the men went as the blessed Andrew said to them; and he made Matthias go along with his disciples out of the eastern gate of the city.

144E André ordenou a uma nuvem, e a nuvem levou Matias e os discípulos de André; e a nuvem os fez descer ao monte onde Pedro ensinava, e ficaram ao lado dele.

144And Andrew commanded a cloud, and the cloud took up Matthias and the disciples of Andrew; and the cloud set them down on the mountain where Peter was teaching, and they remained beside him.

145E André, saindo da prisão, andou pela cidade; e tendo visto uma coluna de bronze e uma estátua sobre ela, ele veio e sentou-se atrás daquela coluna até ver o que aconteceria.

145And Andrew, having gone forth from the prison, walked about in the city; and having seen a brazen pillar, and a statue standing upon it, he came and sat down behind that pillar until he should see what should happen.

146E aconteceu que os algozes foram à prisão para tirar os homens para comerem, segundo o costume; e encontraram as portas da prisão abertas e os guardas que a guardavam caídos mortos no chão.

146And it happened that the executioners went to the prison to bring out the men for their food, according to the custom; and they found the doors of the prison opened, and the guards that guarded it lying dead upon the ground.

147E imediatamente foram e relataram aos governantes da cidade, dizendo: Encontramos a prisão aberta e, entrando, não encontramos ninguém; mas encontramos os guardas caídos mortos no chão.

147And straightway they went, and reported to the rulers of the city, saying: We found the prison opened, and having gone inside we found nobody; but we found the guards lying dead upon the ground.

148E os governantes, ouvindo isso, disseram entre si: O que aconteceu então? Você não quer dizer que algumas pessoas foram para a prisão da cidade e mataram os carcereiros e levaram embora aqueles que estavam trancados? E falaram aos algozes, dizendo: Ide à prisão, e trazei os homens que estão mortos, para que hoje os comamos.

148And the rulers having heard this, said among themselves: What, then, has happened? You do not mean to say that some persons have gone into the prison of the city, and have killed the warders, and taken away those that were shut up? And they spoke to the executioners, saying: Go to the prison, and bring the men that are dead, that we may eat them up to-day.

149E vamos amanhã e reunamos todos os anciãos da cidade, para que lancem sortes sobre si mesmos, até que cheguem as sete sortes, e matemos sete a cada dia.

149And let us go to-morrow, and bring together all the old men of the city, that they may cast lots upon themselves, until the seven lots come, and we slay seven each day.

150E eles serão para nós como alimento até que possamos escolher jovens, e colocá-los em barcos como marinheiros, para que possam ir para os países vizinhos, e atacá-los, e trazer alguns homens aqui, para que possam servir de alimento para nós.

150And they shall be to us for food until we may choose young men, and put them in boats as sailors, that they may go away to the countries round about, and attack them, and bring some men here, that they may be for food to us.

151E os algozes foram à prisão e trouxeram os sete homens que estavam mortos; e havia um forno construído no meio da cidade, e havia no forno uma grande gamela na qual eles mataram os homens, e o sangue deles escorreu para a gamela, e eles tiraram o sangue e beberam.

151And the executioners went to the prison, and brought the seven men that were dead; and there was an oven built in the midst of the city, and there lay in the oven a large trough in which they killed the men, and their blood ran down into the trough, and they drew out of the blood and drank it.

155E André, tendo visto, orou ao Senhor, dizendo: Senhor Jesus Cristo, que me ordenou que viesse a esta cidade, não permita que os que estão nesta cidade façam algum mal, mas deixe as facas saírem das mãos dos ímpios.

155And Andrew having beheld, prayed to the Lord, saying: Lord Jesus Christ, who didst order me to come into this city, do not suffer those in this city to do any evil, but let the knives go out of the hands of the wicked ones.

156E imediatamente as facas dos ímpios caíram e as suas mãos foram transformadas em pedra.

156And straightway the knives of the wicked men fell, and their hands were turned into stone.

157E os governantes, vendo o que havia acontecido, choraram, dizendo: Ai de nós, porque aqui estão os magos que entraram na prisão e tiraram os homens; pois eis que eles também os enfeitiçaram.

157And the rulers, having seen what had happened, wept, saying: Woe unto us, for here are the magicians who have gone into the prison, and brought out the men; for, behold, they have bewitched these also.

158O que, então, devemos fazer? Vamos agora reunir os velhos da cidade, visto que temos fome.

158What, then, shall we do? Let us go now, and gather together the old men of the city, seeing that we are hungry.

159E foram e os reuniram, e acharam duzentos e dezessete; e eles os trouxeram aos governantes, e eles os fizeram lançar sortes, e a sorte caiu sobre sete velhos.

159And they went and gathered them together, and found two hundred and seventeen; and they brought them to the rulers, and they made them cast lots, and the lot came upon seven old men.

160E um dos sorteados respondeu e disse aos oficiais: Rogo-vos, tenho para mim um filho; pegue-o e mate-o em meu lugar e deixe-me ir.

160And one of those taken by lot answered and said to the officers: I pray you, I have for myself one son; take him, and slay him instead of me, and let me go.

161E os oficiais responderam e disseram-lhe: Não podemos levar o teu filho, a menos que o levemos primeiro aos nossos superiores.

161And the officers answered and said to him: We cannot take thy son, unless we bring him first to our superiors.

162E os oficiais foram e contaram aos governantes.

162And the officers went and told the rulers.

163E os governantes responderam e disseram aos oficiais: Se ele nos der seu filho em vez de si mesmo, deixe-o ir.

163And the rulers answered and said to the officers: If he give us his son instead of himself, let him go.

164E os oficiais foram e contaram ao velho.

164And the officers went and told the old man.

165E o velho respondeu e disse-lhes: Eu também tenho uma filha junto com meu filho; pegue-os e mate-os, apenas me deixe ir.

165And the old man answered and said to them: I have also a daughter along with my son; take them, and kill them, only let me go.

166E entregou seus filhos aos oficiais, para que os matassem.

166And he gave his children to the officers, that they might kill them.

167E as crianças choraram umas com as outras e oraram aos oficiais, dizendo: Rogamos que não nos matem, pois somos tão pequenos; mas vamos completar nosso tamanho e assim nos matar.

167And the children wept to each other, and prayed the officers, saying: We pray you do not kill us, as we are of so small a size; but let us complete our size, and so kill us.

168Pois era costume naquela cidade, e eles não enterravam os seus mortos, mas os comiam.

168For it was a custom in that city, and they did not bury their dead, but ate them up.

169E os oficiais não deram ouvidos às crianças, nem tiveram pena delas, mas as levaram para o cocho chorando e orando.

169And the officers did not hearken to the children, nor take pity upon them, but carried them to the trough weeping and praying.

170E aconteceu que, enquanto os levavam para matá-los, André, vendo o que aconteceu, derramou lágrimas; e chorando, ele olhou para o céu e disse: Senhor Jesus Cristo, como Tu me ouviste no caso dos homens mortos, e não permitiste que fossem comidos, assim também ouve-me agora, para que os algozes não inflijam a morte a essas crianças, mas para que as facas possam ser soltas das mãos dos algozes.

170And it happened, as they were leading them away to kill them, that Andrew, having beheld what happened, shed tears; and weeping, he looked up to heaven and said: Lord Jesus Christ, as Thou didst hear me in the case of the dead men, and didst not suffer them to be eaten up, so also now hear me, that the executioners may not inflict death upon these children, but that the knives may be loosened out of the hands of the executioners.

171E imediatamente as facas se soltaram e caíram das mãos dos algozes.

171And straightway the knives were loosened, and fell out of the hands of the executioners.

172E quando isso aconteceu, os algozes, tendo visto o que havia acontecido, ficaram com muito medo.

172And when this came to pass, the executioners, having beheld what had happened, were exceedingly afraid.

173E André, vendo o que havia acontecido, glorificou ao Senhor porque Ele o ouviu em todas as obras.

173And Andrew, seeing what had happened, glorified the Lord because He had listened to him in every work.

174E os governantes, vendo o que havia acontecido, choraram com grande choro, dizendo: Ai de nós! o que devemos fazer? E eis que o diabo apareceu na semelhança de um velho, e começou a dizer no meio de todos: Ai de vós! porque agora você está morrendo, não tendo comida; o que ovelhas e bois podem fazer por você? Eles não serão suficientes para você.

174And the rulers, having beheld what had happened, wept with a great weeping, saying: Woe unto us! what are we to do? And, behold, the devil appeared in the likeness of an old man, and began to say in the midst of all: Woe unto you! because you are now dying, having no food; what can sheep and oxen do for you? They will not at all be enough for you.

175Mas levanta-te e procura aqui aquele que veio à cidade, um estranho chamado André, e mata-o; pois se você não fizer isso, ele não permitirá que você continue com essa prática por mais tempo: pois foi ele quem libertou os homens da prisão.

175But rise up, and make a search here for one who has come to the city, a stranger named Andrew, and kill him; for if you do not, he will not permit you to carry on this practice longer: for it was he who let loose the men out of the prison.

176Assuredly the man is in this city, and you have not seen him.

177Now, therefore, rise and make search for him, in order that henceforward you may be able to collect your food.

178E André viu o diabo, como ele falava às multidões; mas o diabo não viu o bem-aventurado André.

178And Andrew saw the devil, how he was talking to the multitudes; but the devil did not see the blessed Andrew.

179Então André respondeu ao diabo e disse: Ó Belial, o mais diabólico, que és o inimigo de toda criatura; mas meu Senhor Jesus Cristo te levará ao abismo.

179Then Andrew answered the devil, and said: O Belial most fiendish, who art the foe of every creature; but my Lord Jesus Christ will bring thee down to the abyss.

180E o diabo, tendo ouvido isso, disse: Realmente ouço a tua voz e conheço a tua voz, mas não sei onde estás.

180And the devil, having heard this, said: I hear thy voice indeed, and I know thy voice, but where thou art standing I know not.

181E André respondeu e disse ao diabo: Por que, então, foste chamado Amael? não é porque você é cego e não vê todos os santos? E o diabo, tendo ouvido isso, disse aos cidadãos: Procurem agora aquele que está falando comigo, pois ele é o homem.

181And Andrew answered and said to the devil: Why, then, hast thou been called Amael? is it not because thou art blind, not seeing all the saints? And the devil, having heard this, said to the citizens: Look round now for him speaking to me, for he is the man.

182E os cidadãos, correndo em diferentes direções, fecharam as portas da cidade e procuraram o bem-aventurado, e não o viram.

182And the citizens, having run in different directions, shut the gates of the city, and searched for the blessed one, and did not see him.

183Então o Senhor apareceu a André e disse-lhe; André, levante-se e mostre-se a eles, para que possam aprender meu poder e a impotência do diabo trabalhando neles.

183Then the Lord showed Himself to Andrew, and said to him; Andrew, rise up and show thyself to them, that they may learn my power, and the powerlessness of the devil working in them.

184Então André se levantou e disse na presença de todos: Eis que eu sou André, a quem procurais.

184Then Andrew rose up, and said in presence of all: Behold, I am Andrew whom you seek.

185E as multidões correram sobre ele e o agarraram, dizendo: O que nos fizeste, nós também faremos a ti.

185And the multitudes ran upon him, and laid hold of him, saying: What thou hast done to us, we also will do to thee.

186E eles discutiram entre si, dizendo: Com que morte o mataremos? E disseram um ao outro: Se lhe arrancarmos a cabeça, a sua morte não será uma tortura; e se o queimarmos, ele não servirá de alimento para nós.

186And they reasoned among themselves, saying: By what death shall we kill him? And they said to each other: If we take off his head, his death is not torture; and if we burn him, he will not be for food to us.

187Então um deles, tendo o diabo entrado nele, respondeu e disse às multidões: Como ele fez conosco, façamos também nós com ele.

187Then one of them, the devil having entered into him, answered and said to the multitudes: As he has done to us, so let us also do to him.

188Levantemo-nos, então, e prendamos-lhe uma corda ao pescoço, e arrastemo-lo por todas as ruas e vielas da cidade; e quando ele morrer, compartilharemos seu corpo.

188Let us rise up, then, and fasten a rope to his neck, and drag him through all the streets and lanes of the city; and when he is dead, we shall share his body.

189E eles fizeram como ele lhes disse; e amarrando uma corda em seu pescoço, eles o arrastaram pelas ruas e vielas da cidade, e a carne do bem-aventurado André grudou no chão, e seu sangue correu para o chão como água.

189And they did as he said to them; and having fastened a rope round his neck, they dragged him through the streets and lanes of the city, and the flesh of the blessed Andrew stuck to the ground, and his blood flowed to the ground like water.

190E, chegando a tarde, lançaram-no na prisão, amarrando-lhe as mãos atrás dele; e ele estava em grande sofrimento.

190And when it was evening they cast him into the prison, having bound his hands behind him; and he was in sore distress.

191E pela manhã novamente o trouxeram para fora e, amarrando-lhe uma corda ao pescoço, arrastaram-no; e novamente sua carne grudou no chão e seu sangue fluiu.

191And in the morning again they brought him out, and having fastened a rope round his neck, they dragged him about; and again his flesh stuck to the ground, and his blood flowed.

192E o bem-aventurado chorou e orou, dizendo: Não me desampares, meu Senhor Jesus Cristo; pois sei que não estás longe dos teus servos.

192And the blessed one wept and prayed, saying: Do not forsake me, my Lord Jesus Christ; for I know that Thou art not far from Thy servants.

193E enquanto ele orava, o diabo foi atrás e disse à multidão: Golpeiam-no na boca, para que não fale.

193And as he was praying, the devil walked behind, and said to the multitudes: Strike him on the mouth, that he may not speak.

194E quando anoiteceu, eles o levaram novamente para a prisão, amarrando suas mãos atrás dele, e o deixaram novamente até o dia seguinte.

194And when it was evening they took him again to the prison, having bound his hands behind him, and left him till the morrow again.

195E o diabo, tendo levado consigo sete demônios que o bem-aventurado havia expulsado dos países vizinhos, e tendo ido para a prisão, eles ficaram diante dele, desejando matá-lo.

195And the devil having taken with himself seven demons whom the blessed one had cast out of the countries round about, and having gone into the prison, they stood before him, wishing to kill him.

196E os demônios responderam e disseram a André: Agora caíste em nossas mãos; onde está a tua glória e a tua exultação, tu que te levantas contra nós, e nos desonras, e contaste os nossos feitos às pessoas em todos os lugares e países, e fizeste com que as nossas oficinas e os nossos templos se tornassem desolados, para que sacrifícios não pudessem ser trazidos a eles? Por isso, então, também te mataremos, como teu mestre chamado Jesus, e João, a quem Herodes decapitou.

196And the demons answered and said to Andrew: Now hast thou fallen into our hands; where is thy glory and thy exultation, thou that raisest thyself up against us, and dishonourest us, and tellest our doings to the people in every place and country, and hast made our workshops and our temples to become desolate, in order that sacrifices may not be brought to them? Because of this, then, we shall also kill thee, like thy teacher called Jesus, and John whom Herod beheaded.

197E eles se apresentaram diante de André, querendo matá-lo; e vendo o selo que o Senhor lhe havia dado na sua testa, ficaram com medo e não se chegaram perto dele, mas fugiram.

197And they stood before Andrew, wishing to kill him; and having beheld the seal upon his forehead which the Lord gave him, they were afraid, and did not come near him, but fled.

198E o diabo lhes disse: Por que vocês fugiram dele, meus filhos, e não o mataram? E os demônios responderam e disseram ao diabo: Não podemos matá-lo, mas mata-o se puderes; pois nós o conhecemos antes que ele passasse pela angústia de sua humilhação.

198And the devil said to them: Why have you fled from him, my children, and not killed him? And the demons answered and said to the devil: We cannot kill him, but kill him if thou art able; for we knew him before he came into the distress of his humiliation.

199Então um dos demônios respondeu e disse: Não podemos matá-lo, mas venhamos zombar dele na angústia de sua humilhação.

199Then one of the demons answered and said: We cannot kill him, but come let us mock him in the distress of his humiliation.

200E os demônios vieram e ficaram diante dele, e zombaram dele.

200And the demons came and stood before him, and scoffed at him.

201E o abençoado ouvindo, chorou; e chegou-se a ele uma voz que dizia: André, por que choras? E foi a voz do diabo que mudou.

201And the blessed one hearing, wept; and there came to him a voice saying: Andrew, why weepest thou? And it was the voice of the devil changed.

202E André respondeu e disse: Estou chorando porque Deus me ordenou, dizendo: Seja paciente com eles.

202And Andrew answered and said: I am weeping because God commanded me, saying, Be patient toward them.

203E o diabo disse: Se você pode fazer alguma coisa, faça.

203And the devil said: If thou canst do anything, do it.

204E André respondeu e disse: É por isso, então, que você faz essas coisas comigo? Mas proíbe que eu desobedeça ao mandamento de meu Senhor; pois se o Senhor me fizer uma acusação nesta cidade, eu te castigarei como você merece.

204And Andrew answered and said: Is it for this, then, that you do these things to me? But forbid it that I should disobey the commandment of my Lord; for if the Lord shall make for me a charge in this city, I shall chastise you as you deserve.

205E, tendo ouvido isso, fugiram.

205And having heard this, they fled.

206E quando amanheceu, trouxeram-no novamente para fora e, amarrando-lhe uma corda ao pescoço, arrastaram-no; e novamente sua carne grudou no chão, e seu sangue fluiu para o chão como água.

206And when it was morning they brought him out again, and having fastened a rope about his neck, they dragged him; and again his flesh stuck to the ground, and his blood flowed to the ground like water.

207E o bem-aventurado, enquanto era arrastado, chorou, dizendo: Senhor Jesus Cristo, não fiques descontente comigo; pois Tu sabes, Senhor, o que o demônio infligiu a mim, junto com seus demônios.

207And the blessed one, as he was being dragged along, wept, saying: Lord Jesus Christ, be not displeased with me; for Thou knowest, Lord, what the fiend has inflicted upon me, along with his demons.

208Estas torturas são suficientes, meu Senhor; pois eis que estou sendo arrastado por três dias.

208These tortures are enough, my Lord; for, behold, I am dragged about for three days.

209Mas Tu, Senhor, lembra-te de que estiveste três horas na cruz e clamaste ao Pai, Meu Pai, por que me abandonaste? Onde estão as tuas palavras, Senhor, que nos disseste, confirmando-nos, quando andávamos contigo, dizendo-nos: Não perdereis um só fio de cabelo? Considera, então, Senhor, o que aconteceu à minha carne e aos cabelos da minha cabeça.

209But do Thou, Lord, remember that Thou wast three hours upon the cross, and didst cry out to the Father, My Father, why hast Thou forsaken me? Where are Thy words, Lord, which Thou spakest to us, confirming us, when we walked about with Thee, saying to us, Ye shall not lose one hair? Consider, then, Lord, what has become of my flesh, and the hairs of my head.

210Então Jesus disse a André: Ó nosso André, o céu e a terra passarão, mas as minhas palavras não passarão.

210Then Jesus said to Andrew: O our Andrew, the heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

211Turn thyself then, Andrew, and behold thy flesh that has fallen, and thy hair, what has become of them.

212And Andrew turned, and saw great trees springing up, bearing fruit; and he glorified God.

213E quando já era tarde, eles o pegaram novamente e o lançaram na prisão, amarrando-lhe as mãos atrás dele; e ele estava extremamente exausto.

213And when it was evening they took him up again, and cast him into the prison, having bound his hands behind him; and he was exceedingly exhausted.

214E os homens da cidade disseram entre si: Talvez ele morra durante a noite, e não o encontremos vivo no dia seguinte; porque ele estava lânguido e sua carne estava esgotada.

214And the men of the city said among themselves: Perhaps he dies in the night, and we do not find him alive on the following day; for he was languid, and his flesh was spent.

215E o Senhor apareceu na prisão e, estendendo a mão, disse a André: Dá-me a tua mão e levanta-te são.

215And the Lord appeared in the prison, and having stretched out His hand, said to Andrew: Give me thy hand, and rise up whole.

216E André, tendo visto o Senhor Jesus, estendeu-lhe a mão e levantou-se são.

216And Andrew, having beheld the Lord Jesus, gave Him his hand, and rose up whole.

217E prostrando-se, ele O adorou e disse: Agradeço-Te, meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, por me teres trazido ajuda rapidamente.

217And falling down, he worshipped Him, and said: I thank Thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, that Thou hast speedily brought help to me.

218E André, olhando para o meio da prisão, viu uma coluna em pé, e sobre a coluna havia uma estátua de alabastro.

218And Andrew, having looked into the middle of the prison, saw a pillar standing, and upon the pillar there stood an alabaster statue.

219E André, tendo subido até a estátua, estendeu as mãos sete vezes e disse ao pilar e à estátua que estava sobre ele: Tema o sinal da cruz, que o céu e a terra temem; e que a estátua colocada sobre a coluna faça subir muita água pela sua boca, até que todos os que estão nesta cidade sejam punidos.

219And Andrew, having gone up to the statue, unfolded his hands seven times, and said to the pillar, and the statue upon it: Fear the sign of the cross, which the heaven and the earth dread; and let the statue set upon the pillar bring up much water through its mouth, until all who are in this city be punished.

220E não digas: sou pedra e não sou digno de louvar ao Senhor, porque o Senhor nos formou da terra; mas você é puro, porque de você Ele deu as tábuas da lei.

220And say not, I am stone, and am not worthy to praise the Lord, for the Lord fashioned us from the earth; but you are pure, because that out of you He gave the tables of the law.

221Quando o bem-aventurado André disse isso, imediatamente a estátua de pedra lançou água em abundância da boca, como se saísse de um canal.

221When the blessed Andrew had said this, straightway the stone statue cast out of its mouth water in abundance, as if out of a canal.

222E as águas se elevaram sobre a terra; e era extremamente acre, corroendo a carne dos homens.

222And the water stood high upon the earth; and it was exceedingly acrid, eating into the flesh of men.

223E quando amanheceu, os homens da cidade viram isso e começaram a fugir, dizendo entre si: Ai de nós! porque agora estamos morrendo.

223And when it was morning, the men of the city saw it, and began to flee, saying in themselves: Woe to us! because we are now dying.

224E a água matou o seu gado e os seus filhos; e eles começaram a fugir da cidade.

224And the water killed their cattle and their children; and they began to flee out of the city.

225Então André orou, dizendo: Senhor Jesus Cristo, em quem esperei que este milagre acontecesse sobre esta cidade, não me abandones, mas envia Miguel Teu arcanjo numa nuvem de fogo, e seja um muro ao redor da cidade, para que ninguém possa escapar do fogo.

225Then Andrew prayed, saying: Lord Jesus Christ, in whom I have hoped that this miracle should come upon this city, forsake me not, but send Michael Thy archangel in a cloud of fire, and be a wall round the city, that no one may be able to escape out of the fire.

226E imediatamente desceu uma nuvem de fogo e cercou a cidade como um muro; e a água chegou até o pescoço daqueles homens e os consumiu excessivamente.

226And straightway a cloud of fire came down and encircled the city like a wall; and the water was as high as the neck of those men, and it was eating them up exceedingly.

227E eles choraram, dizendo: Ai de nós! porque todas estas coisas nos sobrevieram por causa do estrangeiro que está na prisão.

227And they wept, saying: Woe to us! for all these things have come upon us because of the stranger who is in the prison.

228Vamos soltá-lo, para que não morramos.

228Let us go and release him, lest perchance we die.

229E saíram clamando em alta voz: Deus do estrangeiro, tira de nós esta água.

229And they went out, crying with a loud voice: God of the stranger, take away from us this water.

230E o apóstolo sabia que eles estavam em grande aflição, e disse à estátua de alabastro: Feche a água, porque eles se arrependeram.

230And the apostle knew that they were in great affliction, and said to the alabaster statue: Stop the water, for they have repented.

231E eu te digo que, se os cidadãos desta cidade acreditarem, construirei uma igreja e te colocarei nela, porque você me prestou este serviço.

231And I say to thee, that if the citizens of this city shall believe, I will build a church, and place thee in it, because thou hast done me this service.

232E a estátua parou de fluir e não produziu mais água.

232And the statue ceased flowing, and no longer brought forth water.

233E os homens da cidade, saindo às portas da prisão, clamaram, dizendo: Tem piedade de nós, Deus do estrangeiro, e não faças conforme a nossa incredulidade, e conforme o que fizemos a este homem, mas tira de nós esta água.

233And the men of the city, having come out to the doors of the prison, cried out, saying: Have pity upon us, God of the stranger, and do not according to our unbelief, and according to what we have done to this man, but take away from us this water.

234E André saiu da prisão; e a água corria de um lado para outro desde os pés do bem-aventurado André.

234And Andrew came forth out of the prison; and the water ran this way and that from the feet of the blessed Andrew.

235Então toda a multidão, vendo-o, gritou: Tem piedade de nós.

235Then all the multitude seeing him, all cried out: Have pity upon us.

236E chegando o velho que entregou seus filhos para que os matassem em seu lugar, orou aos pés do bem-aventurado André, dizendo: Tem piedade de mim.

236And the old man having come who gave up his children that they should slay them instead of him, prayed at the feet of the blessed Andrew, saying: Have pity upon me.

237E o santo André respondeu e disse ao velho: Gostaria de saber como dizes: Tem piedade de mim; pois não tiveste piedade de teus filhos, mas os entregaste para serem mortos em teu lugar.

237And the holy Andrew answered and said to the old man: I wonder how thou sayest, Have pity upon me; for thou hadst no pity upon thy children, but gavest them up to be slain instead of thee.

238Por isso eu te digo: A que hora esta água acabar, você irá para o abismo, com os catorze algozes que matam os homens todos os dias.

238Therefore I say unto thee, At what hour this water goes away, into the abyss shalt thou go, with the fourteen executioners who slay the men every day.

239E ele chegou ao lugar do cocho, onde costumavam matar os homens.

239And he came to the place of the trough, where they used to slay the men.

240E o bem-aventurado, olhando para o céu, orou diante de toda a multidão; e a terra se abriu e engoliu as águas junto com o velho.

240And the blessed one, having looked up to heaven, prayed before all the multitude; and the earth was opened, and swallowed up the water, along with the old man.

241Ele foi levado ao abismo, junto com os algozes.

241He was carried down into the abyss, with the executioners.

242E os homens, vendo o que havia acontecido, ficaram com muito medo e começaram a dizer: Ai de nós porque este homem é de Deus; e agora ele nos matará por causa das aflições que lhe causamos.

242And the men, having seen what had happened, were exceedingly afraid, and began to say: Woe unto us because this man is from God; and now he will kill us because of the afflictions which we have caused him.

243Pois eis que o que ele disse aos algozes e ao velho lhes aconteceu.

243For, behold, what he said to the executioners and the old man has befallen them.

244Agora, portanto, ele comandará o fogo, e ele nos queimará.

244Now, therefore, he will command the fire, and it will burn us.

245E André, ouvindo, disse-lhes: Não temais, filhos; porque também estes não enviarei ao Hades; mas esses se foram, para que creiais em nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

245And Andrew, having heard, said to them: Fear not, children; for I shall not send these also to Hades; but those have gone, that you may believe in our Lord Jesus Christ.

246Então o santo André ordenou que fossem ressuscitados todos os que haviam morrido na água.

246Then the holy Andrew ordered to be brought up all who had died in the water.

247E não puderam trazê-los; pois havia morrido uma grande multidão, tanto de homens como de mulheres, e de crianças, e de gado.

247And they were not able to bring them; for there had died a great multitude both of men, and women, and children, and cattle.

248Então André orou e todos eles ganharam vida.

248Then Andrew prayed, and they all came to life.

249E depois destas coisas ele desenhou um plano para uma igreja, e fez com que a igreja fosse construída.

249And after these things he drew a plan of a church, and he caused the church to be built.

250E ele os batizou e lhes deu as ordenanças de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, dizendo-lhes: Ficai com estes, para que conheçais os mistérios de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

250And he baptized them, and gave them the ordinances of our Lord Jesus Christ, saying to them: Stand by these, in order that you may know the mysteries of our Lord Jesus Christ.

251E todos lhe rogaram: Rogamo-te que fique conosco alguns dias, para que nos enchamos da tua fonte, porque somos recém-plantados.

251And they all prayed him: We pray thee, stay with us a few days, that we may be filled with thy fountain, because we are newly planted.

252E ele não atendeu ao pedido deles, mas disse-lhes: Irei primeiro aos meus discípulos.

252And he did not comply with their request, but said to them: I shall go first to my disciples.

253E as crianças seguiram, chorando e orando, com os homens; e lançaram cinza sobre suas cabeças.

253And the children followed after, weeping and praying, with the men; and they cast ashes upon their heads.

254E ele não lhes obedeceu, mas disse: Irei para os meus discípulos, e depois voltarei para vós.

254And he did not comply with them, but said: I shall go to my disciples, and after that I shall come again to you.

255E ele seguiu seu caminho.

255And he went his way.

256E o Senhor Jesus Cristo desceu, sendo como uma linda criança, e encontrou André, e disse: André, por que saíste e os deixaste sem fruto, e não tiveste compaixão das crianças que te seguiram, e dos homens que te suplicaram: Fica connosco alguns dias? Porque o seu clamor e o choro subiram ao céu.

256And the Lord Jesus Christ came down, being like a comely little child, and met Andrew, and said: Andrew, why hast thou come out and left them without fruit, and hast not had compassion upon the children that followed after thee, and the men entreating thee, Stay with us a few days? For the cry of them and the weeping has come up to heaven.

257Voltai, pois, agora, e entrai na cidade, e permanecei ali sete dias, até que eu confirme as suas almas na fé; e então irás para o país dos bárbaros, tu e os teus discípulos.

257Now therefore return, and go into the city, and remain there seven days, until I shall confirm their souls in the faith; and then thou shalt go away into the country of the barbarians, thou and thy disciples.

258E depois de entrar nesta cidade, você proclamará meu Evangelho e fará subir os homens que estão no abismo.

258And after going into this city, thou shalt proclaim my Gospel, and bring up the men who are in the abyss.

259E farás o que eu te ordeno.

259And thou shalt do what I command thee.

260Então André virou-se e entrou na cidade, dizendo: Agradeço-Te, meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, que desejaste salvar todas as almas, por não me teres permitido sair desta cidade em minha ira.

260Then Andrew turned and went into the city, saying: I thank Thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, who wishest to save every soul, that Thou hast not allowed me to go forth out of this city in mine anger.

261E quando ele entrou na cidade, eles, vendo-o, regozijaram-se com grande alegria.

261And when he had come into the city, they, seeing him, rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

262E ficou ali sete dias, ensinando-os e confirmando-os no Senhor Jesus Cristo.

262And he stayed there seven days, teaching and confirming them in the Lord Jesus Christ.

263E, cumpridos os sete dias, aconteceu que, enquanto o bem-aventurado André estava saindo, todos se reuniram até ele, desde o menino até o mais velho, e o despediram, dizendo: Há um só Deus, o Deus de André, e um só Senhor Jesus Cristo, o único que faz maravilhas; a quem seja a glória e a força para sempre, Amém.

263And the seven days having been fulfilled, it came to pass, while the blessed Andrew was going out, all came together to him, from the child even to the elder, and sent him on his way, saying: There is one God, the God of Andrew, and one Lord Jesus Christ, who alone doeth wonders; to whom be glory and strength for ever, Amen.
