Assunção de Moisés 11

1E quando Josué ouviu as palavras de Moisés, que estavam escritas em seus escritos, tudo o que ele havia dito antes, rasgou suas roupas e lançou-se aos pés de Moisés.

1And when Joshua had heard the words of Moses that were so written in his writing all that he had before said, he rent his clothes and cast himself at Moses' feet.

2E Moisés o confortou e chorou com ele.

2And Moses comforted him and wept with him.

3E Josué lhe respondeu e disse: 'Por que você me consola, (meu) senhor Moisés? E como me consolarei a respeito da palavra amarga que proferiste e que saiu da tua boca, que está cheia de lágrimas e lamentação, por te afastares deste povo? (Mas agora) que lugar te receberá?

3And Joshua answered him and said: 'Why do you comfort me, (my) lord Moses? And how shall I be comforted in regard to the bitter word which you hast spoken which has gone forth from thy mouth, which is full of tears and lamentation, in that you depart from this people? (But now) what place shall receive you?

4Ou qual será o sinal que marcará o (seu) sepulcro? Ou quem se atreverá a mover seu corpo de lá como o de um mero homem de um lugar para outro? Pois todos os homens, quando morrem, têm de acordo com a idade os seus sepulcros na terra; mas o teu sepulcro vai do nascer ao pôr do sol, e do sul até os confins do norte: o mundo inteiro é o teu sepulcro.

4Or what shall be the sign that marks (your) sepulcher? Or who shall dare to move your body from there as that of a mere man from place to place? For all men when they die have according to their age their sepulchers on earth; but your sepulcher is from the rising to the setting sun, and from the south to the confines of the north: all the world is your sepulcher.

5Meu senhor, você está partindo, e quem alimentará este povo? Ou quem terá compaixão deles e quem será seu guia no caminho? Ou quem orará por eles, sem perder um só dia, para que eu os conduza à terra dos seus antepassados?

5My lord, you are departing, and who shall feed this people? Or who is there that shall have compassion on them and who shall be their guide by the way? Or who shall pray for them, not omitting a single day, in order that I may lead them into the land of their forefathers?

6Como, portanto, devo criar este povo como um pai (seu) único filho, ou como uma amante de sua filha, uma virgem que está sendo preparada para ser dada ao marido a quem ela irá reverenciar, enquanto ela protege sua pessoa do sol e (toma cuidado) para que seus pés não fiquem descalços para correr pelo chão.

6How therefore am I to foster this people as a father (his) only son, or as a mistress her daughter, a virgin who is being prepared to be given to the husband whom she will revere, while she guards her person from the sun and (takes care) that her feet are not unshod for running upon the ground.

7(E como) devo fornecê-los com comida e bebida de acordo com o prazer de sua vontade? Pois deles, haverá 600.000 (homens), pois estes se multiplicaram a este grau através de suas orações, (meu) senhor Moisés.

7(And how) shall I supply them with food and drink according to the pleasure of their will? For of them, there shall be 600,000 (men), for these have multiplied to this degree through your prayers, (my) lord Moses.

8E que sabedoria ou entendimento tenho eu para julgar ou responder por palavra na casa (do Senhor)?

8And what wisdom or understanding have I that I should judge or answer by word in the house (of the Lord)?

9E os reis dos amorreus também quando ouvirem que os estamos atacando, acreditando que não há mais entre eles o espírito santo que era digno do Senhor, múltiplo e incompreensível, o senhor da palavra, que foi fiel em todas as coisas, o principal profeta de Deus em toda a terra, o mestre mais perfeito do mundo, [que ele não está mais entre eles], dirão: "Vamos contra eles.

9And the kings of the Amorites also when they hear that we are attacking them, believing that there is no longer among them the holy spirit who was worthy of the Lord, manifold and incomprehensible, the lord of the word, who was faithful in all things, God's chief prophet throughout the earth, the most perfect teacher in the world, [that he is no longer among them], shall say "Let us go against them.

10Se o inimigo tiver agido impiamente contra o seu Senhor, pelo menos uma vez, eles não terão nenhum defensor para oferecer orações em seu nome ao Senhor, como Moisés, o grande mensageiro, que a cada hora, dia e noite, tinha os joelhos fixos na terra, orando e buscando ajuda Àquele que governa todo o mundo com compaixão e justiça, lembrando-lhe a aliança dos pais e propiciando o Senhor com o juramento.

10If the enemy have but once wrought impiously against their Lord, they have no advocate to offer prayers on their behalf to the Lord, like Moses the great messenger, who every hour day and night had his knees fixed to the earth, praying and looking for help to Him that rules all the world with compassion and righteous­ness, reminding Him of the covenant of the fathers and propitiating the Lord with the oath."

11Pois dirão: “Ele não está com eles; vamos, portanto, e destruí-los da face da terra”.

11For they shall say: "He is not with them: let us go therefore and destroy them from off the face of the earth."

12O que será então deste povo, meu senhor Moisés?'

12What shall then become of this people, my lord Moses?'
