Segunda Apologia de Justino 14

1Por isso vos pedimos que publiqueis este pequeno livro, acrescentando o que julgardes apropriado, para que nossas opiniões sejam conhecidas por outros e estas pessoas tenham oportunidade justa de se libertar de ideias errôneas e do desconhecimento do bem, ao qual se sujeitaram por culpa própria e pelo qual serão punidas. Que essas coisas sejam divulgadas entre os homens, pois é próprio da natureza humana conhecer o bem e o mal. Ao nos condenarem, sem nos compreender, por ações que dizem ser perversas, ao deleitarem-se com os deuses que praticaram tais coisas e ainda as exigem dos homens, e ao nos infligirem morte, prisão ou castigo semelhante como se fôssemos culpados delas, condenam a si mesmos, de modo que não há necessidade de outros juízes.

1And we therefore pray you to publish this little book, appending what you think right, that our opinions may be known to others, and that these persons may have a fair chance of being freed from erroneous notions and ignorance of good, who by their own fault are become subject to punishment; that so these things maybe published to men, because it is in the nature of man to know good and evil; and by their condemning us, whom they do not understand, for actions which they say are wicked, and by delighting in the gods who did such things, and even now require similar actions from men, and by inflicting on us death or bonds or some other such punishment, as if we were guilty of these things, they condemn themselves, so that there is no need of other judges.
