Primeira Apologia de Justino 36

1E, para que isso também vos fique claro, por meio do profeta Isaías foram proferidas, em nome do Pai, as seguintes palavras: "O boi conhece seu dono, e o jumento, a manjedoura de seu senhor; mas Israel não conhece, e meu povo não entendeu. Ai, nação pecadora, povo cheio de pecados, descendência perversa, filhos transgressores, abandonastes o Senhor." E ainda, em outro lugar, quando o mesmo profeta fala igualmente em nome do Pai: "Que casa edificareis para mim?, diz o Senhor.

1And that this too may be clear to you, there were spoken from the person of the Father through Isaiah the prophet, the following words: "The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib; but Israel doth not know, and My people hath not understood. Woe, sinful nation, a people full of sins, a wicked seed, children that are transgressors, ye have forsaken the Lord." And again elsewhere, when the same prophet speaks in like manner from the person of the Father, "What is the house that ye will build for Me? saith the Lord.

2O céu é meu trono, e a terra, o estrado de meus pés." E ainda, em outro lugar: "Minha alma odeia vossas luas novas e vossos sábados; não posso suportar o grande dia do jejum e da cessação do trabalho; nem, se vierdes apresentar-vos diante de mim, vos ouvirei: vossas mãos estão cheias de sangue; e, se trouxerdes flor de farinha e incenso, isso é abominação para mim: não desejo a gordura dos cordeiros nem o sangue dos touros. Pois quem exigiu isso de vossas mãos? Antes, soltai todos os laços da perversidade, rompei os nós apertados dos contratos violentos, cobri os sem abrigo e nus, reparti vosso pão com os famintos." Agora podeis perceber que espécie de coisas são ensinadas por meio dos profetas em nome de Deus.

2The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool." And again, in another place, "Your new moons and your sabbaths My soul hateth; and the great day of the fast and of ceasing from labour I cannot away with; nor, if ye come to be seen of Me, will I hear you: your hands are full of blood; and if ye bring fine flour, incense, it is abomination unto Me: the fat of lambs and the blood of bulls I do not desire. For who hath required this at your hands? But loose every bond of wickedness, tear asunder the tight knots of violent contracts, cover the houseless and naked deal thy bread to the hungry." What kind of things are taught through the prophets from [the person of] God, you can now perceive.
