3 Adão e Eva 25

1Então, no centésimo ano de Naor, Deus olhou para os filhos dos homens e viu que sacrificavam seus filhos aos ídolos.

1Then in the hundredth year of Nahor, God looked down upon the children of men and saw that they sacrificed their children to idols.

2Então Deus ordenou que se abrissem os depósitos dos ventos e enviassem redemoinhos, vendavais e trevas sobre toda a face da terra, até que os ventos reunissem todos os ídolos, imagens e figuras em montanhas sobre altas montanhas; e os ídolos permaneceram enterrados sob elas até hoje.

2Then God commanded the stores of winds to open, and to send forth the whirlwind, and gales, and darkness upon the whole face of the earth, until all the idols and images, and figures were brought together by the winds in mountains upon mountains high, and the idols remained buried under them until this day.

3Muitos sábios escreveram sobre esse vento, dizendo que era o vento do Dilúvio; e muitos deles afirmam que foi a água do Dilúvio que assim reuniu essas montanhas de ídolos.

3Many wise men have written about this wind, that it was the wind of the Flood; and many of them say it was the water of the Flood that thus brought together these mountains of idols.

4Mas erraram e disseram algo falso a esse respeito; pois antes que as águas do Dilúvio viessem sobre a terra não havia ídolos nela. O Dilúvio veio sobre os homens daquele tempo por causa de seus adultérios e dos pecados que cometiam entre si, tanto os filhos de Caim como os que os seguiram.

4Yet they erred, and said what is false concerning it; because ere the water of the Flood came upon the earth, there were no idols in it, yet the Flood came upon the men at that time because of their adulteries, and of the sins which they committed among themselves; both the children of Cain, and those who followed them.

5Além disso, naquele tempo a terra inteira não estava povoada, exceto a terra do jardim, onde habitavam os filhos de Sete, e o lugar habitado pelos filhos de Caim; fora disso, toda a terra estava desprovida de habitantes.

5Moreover at that time the whole earth was not filled with people; except only the land of the garden, in which dwelt the children of Seth; and the place inhabited by the children of Cain; besides that, the whole earth was bare of inhabitants.

6Quando veio o Dilúvio, levou a arca e a trouxe a esta terra de aflição; esta terra se encheu de pessoas, e aquela ficou devastada.

6Yet when the Flood came, it bare the ark, and brought it to this land of trouble, and this earth was filled with people; and that land was laid waste.

7Naqueles dias, o rei Ninrode viu no oriente um fogo chamejante que se erguia da terra e disse: ‘Que fogo é esse?’

7Then in those days, king Nimrud saw a flaming fire in the east, which arose from the earth, then said Nimrud, "What is that fire?"

8Então foi até ele; ao vê-lo, curvou-se para adorá-lo e nomeou um sacerdote para servi-lo, queimar-lhe incenso e oferecer-lhe vítimas em sacrifício. Daquele dia em diante, os homens de Fars começaram a povoar a terra.

8He then went towards it; and when he saw it, he bowed to it in worship, and appointed a priest to minister before it, to burn incense to it, and to sacrifice victims to it. From that day the men of Fars began to fill the earth.

9Então Satanás, o artífice dos ídolos, viu uma fonte de água perto da cova do fogo; aproximou-se, olhou para ela, fez um cavalo de ouro e o colocou à beira da fonte de água;

9Then Satan the worker of idols saw a fountain of water near the fire-pit, and he came to it, and looked at it, and made a horse of gold, and set it up on the edge of the fountain of water;

10e aconteceu que todos os que vinham lavar-se naquela fonte de água se curvavam em adoração diante do cavalo de ouro; desde então, o povo de Fars começou a adorar cavalos.

10and it so happened that all those who came to wash in that fountain of water, bowed in worship to that golden horse; and from that time, the people of Fare began to worship horses.

11Mas o sacerdote que Ninrode designara para servir ao fogo e queimar-lhe incenso desejava tornar-se mestre e sábio na mesma sabedoria de Ninrode, a quem Barvim, o quarto filho de Noé, havia ensinado.

11Yet the priest whom Nimrud appointed to minister to the fire and to burn incense to it, wished to be a teacher, and wise of the same wisdom as Nimrud, whom Barwin, Noah's fourth son had taught.

12Por isso, enquanto estava diante do fogo, aquele sacerdote insistia em pedir a Satanás que lhe ensinasse esse ministério maligno e essa sabedoria abominável.

12That priest, therefore, kept on asking Satan, while standing before the fire, to teach him this evil ministry and abominable wisdom.

13Então, vendo Satanás que ele se dedicava ao máximo ao serviço do fogo, falou-lhe: ‘Ninguém pode tornar-se mestre, sábio ou grande diante de mim, a menos que me obedeça e vá tomar por esposas sua mãe, sua irmã e sua filha.’

13So, when Satan saw him doing his best in the service of the fire, he talked to him, and said, "No man can become a teacher, or wise, or great before me, unless he hearkens to me, and goes and weds his mother, his sister, and his daughter."

14Então aquele sacerdote obedeceu a Satanás em tudo o que este lhe ordenou, e Satanás lhe ensinou toda espécie de sabedoria e de maldades.

14Then that priest hearkened to Satan in all that he commanded him, and taught him all manner of wisdom and of wickednesses.

15E desde então o povo de Fars tem cometido pecados semelhantes até hoje; e Ninrode construiu grandes cidades no oriente e nelas praticou toda espécie de iniquidades.

15And from that time, the people of Fars have committed like sins unto this day, and Nimrud built great cities in the east; and wrought all manner of iniquities in them.
