1Reú, filho de Pelegue, viveu duzentos e trinta e dois anos e faleceu.

1Then Ragu, Phalek's son, lived 232 years, and died.

2Quando Reú contava cento e trinta anos, ergueu-se um dos primeiros tiranos da terra, chamado Ninrode, que era gigante.

2Yet when Ragu, Phalek's first-born son, was 130 years old, there reigned one of the first kings that ever reigned on the earth, named Nimrud, a giant.

3Aquele Ninrode contemplou uma nuvem de luz sob o firmamento, mera aparição forjada por Satanás.

3That Nimrud saw a cloud of light under heaven; a mere apparition of Satan.

4Cobiçou-lhe a formosura no coração e mandou chamar um artífice chamado Santal, dizendo-lhe: Forja-me uma coroa de ouro à semelhança daquela nuvem.

4And he inclined his heart to it, and coveted its beauty; and then called to one whose name was santal, a carver, and said to him, "Carve me a crown of gold, after the pattern of that cloud."

5Fez-lhe Santal uma rica coroa de ouro, a qual Ninrode cingiu sobre a sua cabeça.

5Then Santal made him a crown of gold which Nimrud took and placed upon his own head.

6Por isso se propalou que uma nuvem celeste descera sobre ele, enchendo-se ele de tanta soberba que chegou a proclamar-se deus.

6Wherefore was it said that a cloud had come down from heaven, and overshadowed him, and he became so wicked, as to think within himself that he was God.

7Naqueles dias Reú tinha cento e oitenta anos; em seu centésimo quadragésimo ano, Yanuf reinou sobre a terra do Egito (também chamado Pan-ophis, segundo a palavra copta para Índia ou cidade, ‘ophis’).

7And in those days Ragu was 180 years old, and in his 140th year, Yanuf reigned over the land of Egypt. (he was otherwise named Pan-ophis, after the Coptic word for India or city, 'ophis')

8Foi ele o primeiro monarca a imperar naquela terra, fundando a célebre cidade de Mênfis à qual deu o seu próprio nome.

8He is the first king that reigned over it; and he built the city of Memphis, and named it after his own name.

9Esta é a terra de Misraim, chamada comumente Masrim.

9That is Misr; whose name is rendered Masrin.

10Falecendo Yanuf, reinou em seu lugar nos dias de Reú um príncipe vindo da Índia chamado Sasém, que edificou a cidade de Sabá.

10This Yanuf died; and in his stead, in the days of Ragu, one from the land of India reigned, whose name was Sasen; and who built the city of Saba.

11E todos os soberanos daquela terra foram denominados sabeus por causa do nome da metrópole, mantendo-se assim até os dias do rei Salomão, filho de Davi.

11And all the kings who reigned over that country were called Sabroans, after the name of the city. And it was so, until the days of Solomon, son of David.

12Depois Farão reinou sobre os filhos de Safir e ergueu a cidade com cantarias de ouro, na terra de Sarania,

12Then again Phar'an reigned over the children of Saphir, and built the city of Saphirf with stones of gold; and that is the land of Sar'ania,

13pelo que afirmam que as serras daquela comarca reluzem todas em veios de ouro puro.

13and because of these stones of gold, they say that the mountains of that country and the stones thereof are all of gold.

14Os habitantes de Lebensa, nas Índias, aclamaram por rei um varão chamado Bahlul, que fundou a cidade de Bahlu.

14Then the children of Lebensa of the country of India, made king over them, aman named Bahlul, who built the city of Bahlu.

15E Reú descansou com a idade de duzentos e oitenta e nove anos.

15Then Ragu died in his 289th year.
