1A arca permaneceu fechada durante os dias de Noé, sem que ninguém tivesse permissão para tocá-la; contudo, iam até ela, bendiziam-se nela e falavam a seu respeito.

1Yet the ark was closed during the days of Noah; neither was any one allowed to touch it, yet they went to it, blessed themselves in it, and talked about it.

2Noé, porém, entrava nela todas as tardes para acender a lâmpada diante de nosso pai Adão, e bendizia-se naquele corpo sagrado.

2Noah, however, went into it every evening, to light the lamp which he had made before our father Adam, and blessed himself in that body.

3E não negligenciava o seu encargo acerca da lâmpada, tal como se fazia no princípio na caverna dos tesouros.

3And he did not neglect his office regarding the lamp, as it was at first in the cave of treasures.

4Mas Noé sabia que, depois dele, a arca não permaneceria inteira, que seus filhos se separariam e não voltariam para cuidar do corpo de nosso pai Adão, e que cresceriam a maldade na terra e as abominações entre os homens,

4Yet as Noah knew that after him, the ark would not remain whole, and that his children would part asunder and not return to look after the body of our father Adam, and that wickedness would increase in the earth and abominations among men,

5ordenou expressamente a seu filho Sem que se apressasse em retirar o corpo de nosso pai Adão e o levasse para o centro da terra, conforme a determinação divina.

5therefore did he command his son Shem to hasten to take the body of our father Adam, and to remove it unto the middle of the earth; according to God's order.
