2 Adão e Eva 17

1Então Jarede guardou o mandamento de seu pai e levantou-se como um leão sobre seu povo. Ele os alimentou com justiça e inocência e ordenou-lhes que não fizessem nada sem o seu conselho. Pois ele estava com medo deles, para que não fossem para os filhos de Caim.

1Then Jared kept his father's commandment, and arose like a lion over his people. He fed them in righteousness and innocence, and commanded them to do nothing without his counsel. For he was afraid concerning them, lest they should go to the children of Cain.

2Por que ele lhes deu ordens repetidamente; e continuou a fazê-lo até o final dos quatrocentos e oitenta e cinco anos de sua vida.

2Wherefore did he give them orders repeatedly; and continued to do so until the end of the four hundred and eighty-fifth year of his life.

3No final desses anos, veio a ele este sinal. Enquanto Jarede estava parado como um leão diante dos corpos de seus pais, orando e alertando seu povo, Satanás o invejou e fez uma bela aparição, porque Jarede não permitia que seus filhos fizessem nada sem seu conselho.

3At the end of these said years, there came unto him this sign. As Jared was standing like a lion before the bodies of his fathers, praying and warning his people, Satan envied him, and wrought a beautiful apparition, because Jared would not let his children do aught without his counsel.

4Satanás então apareceu a ele com trinta homens de suas hostes, na forma de homens bonitos; O próprio Satanás é o mais velho e mais alto entre eles, com uma bela barba.

4Satan then appeared to him with thirty men of his hosts, in the form of handsome men; Satan himself being the elder and tallest among them, with a fine beard.

5Eles ficaram na entrada da caverna e chamaram Jared de dentro dela.

5They stood at the mouth of the cave, and called out Jared, from within it.

6Ele foi até eles e os encontrou parecendo bons homens, cheios de luz e de grande beleza. Ele ficou admirado com a beleza e a aparência deles; e pensou consigo mesmo se não seriam dos filhos de Caim.

6He came out to them, and found them looking like fine men, full of light, and of great beauty. He wondered at their beauty and at their looks; and thought within himself whether they might not be of the children of Cain.

7Ele também disse em seu coração: “Como os filhos de Caim não podem subir ao alto desta montanha, e nenhum deles é tão bonito quanto estes parecem ser; e entre estes homens não há nenhum de meus parentes – eles devem ser estranhos”.

7He said also in his heart, "As the children of Cain cannot come up to the height of this mountain, and none of them is so handsome as these appear to be; and among these men there is not one of my kindred - they must be strangers."

8Então Jared e eles trocaram uma saudação e ele disse ao mais velho entre eles: "Ó meu pai, explica-me a maravilha que há em ti, e diz-me quem são estes que estão contigo; pois eles me parecem homens estranhos."

8Then Jared and they exchanged a greeting and he said to the elder among them, "0 my father, explain to me the wonder that is in thee, and tell me who these are, with thee; for they look to me like strange men."

9Então o mais velho começou a chorar, e os demais choraram com ele; e ele disse a Jared: “Eu sou Adão, a quem Deus criou primeiro; e este é Abel, meu filho, que foi morto por seu irmão Caim, em cujo coração Satanás colocou para matá-lo.

9Then the elder began to weep, and the rest wept with him; and he said to Jared, "I am Adam whom God made first; and this is Abel my son, who was killed by his brother Cain, into whose heart Satan put to murder him.

10“Então este é meu filho Sete, a quem pedi ao Senhor, que o deu para mim, para me consolar em vez de Abel.

10"Then this is my son Seth, whom I asked of the Lord, who gave him to me, to comfort me instead of Abel.

11"Então este é meu filho Enos, filho de Seth, e aquele outro é Cainan, filho de Enos, e aquele outro é Mahalaleel, filho de Cainan, teu pai."

11"Then this one is my son Enos, son of Seth, and that other one is Cainan, son of Enos, and that other one is Mahalaleel, son of Cainan, thy father."

12Mas Jared ficou surpreso com a aparência deles e com o discurso do mais velho para ele.

12But Jared remained wondering at their appearance, and at the speech of the elder to him.

13Então o mais velho lhe disse: "Não se maravilhe, ó meu filho; vivemos na terra ao norte do jardim, que Deus criou antes do mundo. Ele não nos deixou morar lá, mas nos colocou dentro do jardim, abaixo do qual você está morando agora.

13Then the elder said to him, "Marvel not, 0 my son; we live in the land north of the garden, which God created before the world. He would not let us live there, but placed us inside the garden, below which ye are now dwelling.

14“Mas depois que transgredi, Ele me fez sair dela, e fui deixado para morar nesta caverna; grandes e dolorosos problemas vieram sobre mim; e quando minha morte se aproximou, ordenei a meu filho Seth que cuidasse bem de seu povo; e este meu mandamento deve ser transmitido de um para outro, até o fim das gerações vindouras.

14"But after that I transgressed, He made me come out of it, and I was left to dwell in this cave; great and sore troubles came upon me; and when my death drew near, I commanded my son Seth to tend his people well; and this my commandment is to be handed from one to another, unto the end of the generations to come.

15“Mas, ó Jared, meu filho, nós vivemos em belas regiões, enquanto você vive aqui na miséria, como este teu pai Mahalaleel me informou; dizendo-me que um grande dilúvio virá e inundará toda a terra.

15"But, 0 Jared, my son, we live in beautiful regions, while you live here in misery, as this thy father Mahalaleel informed me; telling me that a great flood will come and overwhelm the whole earth.

16“Portanto, ó meu filho, temendo por sua causa, levantei-me e levei meus filhos comigo, e vim aqui para visitarmos você e seus filhos; mas encontrei você parado nesta caverna chorando, e seus filhos espalhados por esta montanha, no calor e na miséria.

16"Therefore, 0 my son, fearing for your sakes, I rose and took my children with me, and came hither for us to visit thee and thy children; but I found thee standing in this cave weeping, and thy children scattered about this mountain, in the heat and in misery.

17“Mas, ó meu filho, quando perdemos o caminho e chegamos até aqui, encontramos outros homens abaixo desta montanha; que habitam um lindo país, cheio de árvores e frutas, e de todos os tipos de verdura; é como um jardim; de modo que quando os encontramos pensamos que eram você; até que seu pai Mahalaleel me disse que eles não existiam tal coisa.

17"But, 0 my son, as we missed our way, and came as far as this, we found other men below this mountain; who inhabit a beautiful country, full of trees and of fruits, and of all manner of verdure; it is like a garden; so that when we found them we thought they were you; until thy father Mahalaleel told me they were no such thing.

18"Agora, portanto, ó meu filho, ouça meu conselho e desça até eles, você e seus filhos. Vocês descansarão de todo esse sofrimento em que estão. Mas se você não descer até eles, então, levante-se, leve seus filhos e venha conosco para nosso jardim; você viverá em nossa bela terra e descansará de todos esses problemas que você e seus filhos estão enfrentando agora."

18"Now, therefore, 0 my son, hearken to my counsel, and go down to them, thou and thy children. Ye will rest from all this suffering in which ye are. But if thou wilt not go down to them, then, arise, take thy children, and come with us to our garden; ye shall live in our beautiful land, and ye shall rest from all this trouble, which thou and thy children are now bearing."

19Mas Jared, quando ouviu esse discurso do mais velho, ficou surpreso; e foi para lá e para cá, mas naquele momento não encontrou nenhum de seus filhos.

19But Jared when he heard this discourse from the elder, wondered; and went hither and thither, but at that moment he found not one of his children.

20Então ele respondeu e disse ao ancião: “Por que você se escondeu até hoje?”

20Then he answered and said to the elder, "Why have you hidden yourselves until this day?"

21E o mais velho respondeu: “Se teu pai não nos tivesse contado, não saberíamos”.

21And the elder replied, "If thy father had not told us, we should not have known it."

22Então Jared acreditou que suas palavras eram verdadeiras.

22Then Jared believed his words were true.

23Então aquele ancião disse a Jarede: “Por que você se virou, fulano de tal?” E ele disse: “Eu estava procurando um de meus filhos, para contar-lhe sobre minha ida com você e sobre sua vinda para aqueles de quem você falou comigo”.

23So that elder said to Jared, "Wherefore didst thou turn about, so and so?" And he said, "I was seeking one of my children, to tell him about my going with you, and about their coming down to those about whom thou hast spoken to me."

24Quando o ancião ouviu a intenção de Jarede, ele lhe disse: "Deixe de lado esse propósito no momento, e venha conosco; você verá nosso país; se a terra em que moramos lhe agradar, nós e você retornaremos para cá e levaremos sua família conosco. Mas se nosso país não lhe agradar, você retornará para sua própria casa."

24When the elder heard Jared's intention, he said to him, "Let alone that purpose at present, and come with us; thou shalt see our country; if the land in which we dwell pleases thee, we and thou shall return hither and take thy family with us. But if our country does not please thee, thou shalt come back to thine own place."

25E o mais velho insistiu com Jared para ir antes que um de seus filhos viesse aconselhá-lo do contrário.

25And the elder urged Jared, to go before one of his children came to counsel him otherwise.

26Jared, então, saiu da caverna e foi com eles e entre eles. E eles o consolaram, até que chegaram ao topo da montanha dos filhos de Caim.

26Jared, then, came out of the cave and went with them, and among them. And they comforted him, until they came to the top of the mountain of the sons of Cain.

27Então disse o mais velho a um de seus companheiros: “Esquecemos algo na entrada da caverna, e essa é a vestimenta escolhida que trouxemos para vestir Jared também”.

27Then said the elder to one of his companions, "We have forgotten something by the mouth of the cave, and that is the chosen garment we had brought to clothe Jared withal."

28Ele então disse a um deles: "Volte, alguém; e esperaremos por você aqui, até que você volte. Então vestiremos Jared e ele será como nós, bom, bonito e apto para vir conosco para nosso país."

28He then said to one of them, "Go back, thou, some one; and we will wait for thee here, until thou come back. Then will we clothe Jared and he shall be like us, good, handsome, and fit to come with us into our country."

29Aí aquele voltou.

29Then that one went back.

30Mas quando ele estava a uma curta distância, o ancião chamou-o e disse-lhe: “Fica até que eu suba e fale contigo”.

30But when he was a short distance off, the elder called to him and said to him, "Tarry thou, until I come up and speak to thee."

31Então ele ficou parado, e o mais velho foi até ele e disse-lhe: "Uma coisa que esquecemos na caverna, é isto: apagar a lâmpada que queima dentro dela, acima dos corpos que estão lá dentro. Então volte para nós, rápido."

31Then he stood still, and the elder went up to him and said to him, "One thing we forgot at the cave, it is this - to put out the lamp that burns inside it, above the bodies that are therein. Then come back to us, quick."

32Aquele foi, e o mais velho voltou para seus companheiros e para Jared. E eles desceram da montanha, e Jarede com eles; e eles ficaram perto de uma fonte de água, perto das casas dos filhos de Caim e esperaram pelo seu companheiro até que ele trouxesse a roupa para Jarede.

32That one went, and the elder came back to his fellows and to Jared. And they came down from the mountain, and Jared with them; and they stayed by a fountain of water, near the houses of the children of Cain and waited for their companion until he brought the garment for Jared.

33Ele então, que voltou para a caverna, apagou a lâmpada, e foi até eles e trouxe consigo um fantasma e mostrou-o a eles. E quando Jared viu isso, ele ficou maravilhado com a beleza e a graça disso, e se alegrou em seu coração, acreditando que tudo era verdade.

33He, then, who went back to the cave, put out the lamp, and came to them and brought a phantom with him and showed it them. And when Jared saw it he wondered at the beauty and grace thereof, and rejoiced in his heart believing it was all true.

34Mas enquanto eles estavam lá, três deles foram às casas dos filhos de Caim e disseram-lhes: “Trazei-nos hoje algum alimento junto à fonte de água, para nós e nossos companheiros comermos”.

34But while they were staying there, three of them went into houses of the sons of Cain and said to them, "Bring us to-day some food by the fountain of water, for us and our companions to eat."

35Mas quando os filhos de Caim os viram, ficaram maravilhados com eles e pensaram: “Estes são lindos de se ver e como nunca vimos antes”. Então eles se levantaram e foram com eles até a fonte de água, para ver seus companheiros.

35But when the sons of Cain saw them, they wondered at them and thought: "These are beautiful to look at, and such as we never saw before." So they rose and came with them to the fountain of water, to see their companions.

36Eles os acharam tão bonitos que gritaram em voz alta sobre seus lugares para que outros se reunissem e viessem ver esses belos seres. Então eles reuniram ao seu redor homens e mulheres.

36They found them so very handsome, that they cried aloud about their places for others to gather together and come and look at these beautiful beings. Then they gathered around them both men and women.

37Então o ancião lhes disse: “Somos estrangeiros em sua terra, tragam-nos boa comida e bebida, vocês e suas mulheres, para nos refrescarmos com vocês”.

37Then the elder said to them, "We are strangers in your land, bring us some good food and drink, you and your women, to refresh ourselves with you."

38Quando aqueles homens ouviram estas palavras do mais velho, cada um dos filhos de Caim trouxe sua esposa, e outro trouxe sua filha, e assim, muitas mulheres vieram até eles; cada um se dirigindo a Jared por si mesmo ou por sua esposa; todos iguais.

38When those men heard these words of the elder, every one of Cain's sons brought his wife, and another brought his daughter, and so, many women came to them; every one addressing Jared either for himself or for his wife; all alike.

39Mas quando Jared viu o que eles fizeram, sua alma se separou deles; nem ele provaria a comida ou a bebida deles.

39But when Jared saw what they did, his very soul wrenched itself from them; neither would he taste of their food or of their drink.

40O mais velho o viu quando ele se desvencilhou deles e disse-lhe: "Não fique triste; eu sou o grande ancião, como você me verá fazer, faça o mesmo."

40The elder saw him as he wrenched himself from them, and said to him, "Be not sad; I am the great elder, as thou shalt see me do, do thyself in like manner."

41Então ele estendeu as mãos e pegou uma das mulheres, e cinco de seus companheiros fizeram o mesmo diante de Jared, para que ele fizesse como eles.

41Then he spread his hands and took one of the women, and five of his companions did the same before Jared, that he should do as they did.

42Mas quando Jared os viu trabalhando na infâmia, ele chorou e disse em sua mente: - Meus pais nunca fizeram algo assim.

42But when Jared saw them working infamy he wept, and said in his mind, - My fathers never did the like.

43Ele então abriu as mãos e orou com coração fervoroso e com muito choro, e implorou a Deus que o livrasse de suas mãos.

43He then spread his hands and prayed with a fervent heart, and with much weeping, and entreated God to deliver him from their hands.

44Assim que Jarede começou a orar, o ancião fugiu com seus companheiros; pois eles não podiam permanecer em um lugar de oração.

44No sooner did Jared begin to pray than the elder fled with his companions; for they could not abide in a place of prayer.

45Então Jarede se virou, mas não conseguiu vê-los, mas se viu no meio dos filhos de Caim.

45Then Jared turned round but could not see them, but found himself standing in the midst of the children of Cain.

46Ele então chorou e disse: "Ó Deus, não me destruas com esta raça, a respeito da qual meus pais me alertaram; pois agora, ó meu Senhor Deus, eu estava pensando que aqueles que me apareceram eram meus pais; mas eu descobri que eles eram demônios, que me seduziram por esta bela aparição, até que eu acreditei neles.

46He then wept and said, "0 God, destroy me not with this race, concerning which my fathers have warned me; for now, 0 my Lord God, I was thinking that those who appeared unto me were my fathers; but I have found them out to be devils, who allured me by this beautiful apparition, until I believed them.

47"Mas agora te peço, ó Deus, que me livre desta raça, entre a qual estou agora, como Tu me livraste daqueles demônios. Envia Teu anjo para me tirar do meio deles; pois eu mesmo não tenho poder para escapar do meio deles."

47"But now I ask Thee, 0 God, to deliver me from this race, among whom I am now staying, as Thou didst deliver me from those devils. Send Thy angel to draw me out of the midst of them; for I have not myself power to escape from among them."

48Quando Jarede terminou sua oração, Deus enviou Seu anjo no meio deles, que pegou Jarede e o colocou na montanha, e lhe mostrou o caminho, deu-lhe conselhos e então partiu dele.

48When Jared had ended his prayer, God sent His angel in the midst of them, who took Jared and set him upon the mountain, and showed him the way, gave him counsel, and then departed from him.
