1Naqueles dias vivia Lameque, o cego, que era dos filhos de Caim. Ele tinha um filho cujo nome era Atun, e os dois tinham muito gado.

1In those days lived Lamech the blind, who was of the sons of Cain. He had a son whose name was Atun, and they two had much cattle.

2Mas Lameque tinha o hábito de mandá-los alimentar-se com um jovem pastor, que cuidava deles; e que, ao voltar para casa à noite, chorou diante de seu avô, e diante de seu pai Atun e de sua mãe Hazina, e disse-lhes: "Quanto a mim, não posso alimentar aquele gado sozinho, para que ninguém me roube alguns deles, ou me mate por causa deles." Pois entre os filhos de Caim houve muitos roubos, assassinatos e pecados.

2But Lamech was in the habit of sending them to feed with a young shepherd, who tended them; and who, when coming home in the evening wept before his grandfather, and before his father Atun and his mother Hazina, and said to them, "As for me, I cannot feed those cattle alone, lest one rob me of some of them, or kill me for the sake of them." For among the children of Cain, there was much robbery, murder and sin.

3Then Lamech pitied him, and he said, "Truly, he when alone, might be overpowered by the men of this place."

4Então Lameque levantou-se, pegou um arco que guardava desde jovem, antes de ficar cego, e pegou flechas grandes, e pedras lisas, e uma funda que tinha, e foi para o campo com o jovem pastor, e colocou-se atrás do gado; enquanto o jovem pastor cuidava do gado. Assim fez Lameque por muitos dias.

4So Lamech arose, took a bow he had kept ever since he was a youth, ere he became blind, and he took large arrows, and smooth stones, and a sling which he had, and went to the field with the young shepherd, and placed himself behind the cattle; while the young shepherd watched the cattle. Thus did Lamech many days.

5Meanwhile Cain, ever since God had cast him off, and had cursed him with trembling and terror, could neither settle nor find rest in any one place; mas vagou de um lugar para outro.

6Em suas andanças, ele foi até as esposas de Lameque e perguntou-lhes sobre ele. Eles lhe disseram: “Ele está no campo com o gado”.

6In his wanderings he came to Lamech's wives, and asked them about him. They said to him, "He is in the field with the cattle."

7Então Caim foi procurá-lo; e, ao entrar no campo, o jovem pastor ouviu o barulho que ele fazia, e o gado reunido diante dele,

8Então ele disse a Lameque: "Ó meu senhor, isso é uma fera ou um ladrão?"

8Then said he to Lamech, "0 my lord, is that a wild beast or a robber?"

9E Lameque lhe disse: “Faze-me saber para que lado ele olha quando sobe.

9And Lamech said to him, "Make me understand which way he looks, when he comes up.

10Então Lameque armou seu arco, colocou uma flecha nele e colocou uma pedra na funda, e quando Caim saiu do campo aberto, o pastor disse a Lameque: "Atire, eis que ele está vindo."

10Then Lamech bent his bow, placed an arrow on it, and fitted a stone in the sling, and when Cain came out from the open country, the shepherd said to Lamech, "Shoot, behold, he is coming."

11Então Lameque atirou em Caim com sua flecha e o atingiu no lado. E Lameque o feriu com uma pedra da funda, que lhe caiu no rosto e lhe arrancou ambos os olhos; então Caim caiu imediatamente e morreu.

11Then Lamech shot at Cain with his arrow and hit him in his side. And Lamech struck him with a stone from his sling, that fell upon his face, and knocked out both his eyes; then Cain fell at once and died.

12Então Lameque e o jovem pastor aproximaram-se dele e encontraram-no caído no chão. E o jovem pastor disse-lhe: "É Caim, nosso avô, quem mataste, ó meu senhor!"

12Then Lamech and the young shepherd came up to him, and found him lying on the ground. And the young shepherd said to him, "It is Cain our grandfather, whom thou hast killed, 0 my lord!"

13Então Lameque se arrependeu e, devido à amargura de seu arrependimento, bateu palmas e bateu com a palma espalmada na cabeça do jovem, que caiu como se estivesse morto; mas Lameque achou que era uma simulação; então ele pegou uma pedra e o feriu, e quebrou sua cabeça até que ele morresse.

13Then was Lamech sorry for it, and from the bitterness of his regret, he clapped his hands together, and struck with his flat palm the head of the youth, who fell as if dead; but Lamech thought it was a feint; so he took up a stone and smote him, and smashed his head until he died.
