1 Adão e Eva 48

1Depois disto chamou Satanás os seus exércitos, todos os quais vieram a ele, e disseram-lhe:

1After this Satan called to his hosts, all of which came to him, and said to him:—

2«Ó senhor nosso, que farás?»

2"O, our lord, what will you do?"

3Disse-lhes ele então: «Bem sabeis vós que este Adão, a quem Deus criou do pó, é aquele que tomou o nosso reino; vinde, ajuntemo-nos e matemo-lo; ou lancemos uma rocha sobre ele e sobre Eva, e esmaguemo-los sob ela».

3He then said to them, "You know that this Adam, whom God created out of the dust, is the one who has taken our kingdom, come, let us gather together and kill him; or hurl a rock at him and at Eve, and crush them under it."

4Ouvindo as hostes de Satanás estas palavras, vieram àquela parte do monte onde Adão e Eva dormiam.

4When Satan's hosts heard these words, they came to the part of the mountain where Adam and Eve were asleep.

5Tomaram então Satanás e o seu exército uma rocha enorme, larga, plana e sem fenda alguma, pensando ele consigo: «Se houver alguma cavidade na rocha, ao cair sobre eles, a concavidade da pedra poderá ficar sobre eles, e assim escaparão e não morrerão».

5Then Satan and his host took a huge rock, broad and even, and without blemish, thinking within himself, "If there should be a hole in the rock, when it fell on them, the hole in the rock might come over them, and so they would escape and not die."

6Disse então aos seus exércitos: «Erguei esta pedra e arremessai-a de plano sobre eles, para que não role para outro lugar. E, havendo-a arremessado, retirai-vos dali depressa».

6He then said to his hosts, "Take up this stone, and throw it flat on them, so that it doesn't roll off them to somewhere else. And when you have hurled it, get away from there quickly."

7E fizeram conforme ele lhes ordenara. Mas, enquanto a rocha despencava do monte em direção a Adão e Eva, ordenou Deus à rocha que se tornasse uma abóbada sobre eles, que dano algum lhes fizesse. E assim se fez por ordem de Deus.

7And they did as he told them. But as the rock fell down from the mountain toward Adam and Eve, God commanded the rock to become a dome over them, that did them no harm. And so it was by God's order.

8Mas, ao cair a rocha, toda a terra estremeceu com ela, e foi sacudida pelo grande peso da pedra.

8But when the rock fell, the whole earth quaked with it, and was shaken from the size of the rock.

9E, estremecendo e tremendo a terra, Adão e Eva despertaram do sono e se acharam sob uma abóbada de pedra. Mas não sabiam o que havia sucedido; pois, quando adormeceram, estavam debaixo do céu aberto e não sob uma cúpula; e, vendo-a, temeram grandemente.

9And as it quaked and shook, Adam and Eve awoke from sleep, and found themselves under a dome of rock. But they didn't know what had happened; because when the fell asleep they were under the sky, and not under a dome; and when they saw it, they were afraid.

10Disse então Adão a Eva: «Por que razão se dobrou o monte, e a terra se abalou e tremeu por nossa causa? E por que se estendeu esta rocha sobre nós como uma tenda?

10Then Adam said to Eve, "Wherefore has the mountain bent itself, and the earth quaked and shaken on our account? And why has this rock spread itself over us like a tent?

11Acaso intentará Deus atormentar-nos e encerrar-nos nesta prisão? Ou fechará a terra sobre nós?

11Does God intend to plague us and to shut us up in this prison? Or will He close the earth over us?

12Ele Se irou contra nós por termos saído da caverna sem Sua ordem, e por termos feito isso de nossa própria vontade, sem O consultar, quando deixamos a caverna e viemos a este lugar».

12He is angry with us for our having come out of the cave, without His order; and for our having done so of our own accord, without consulting Him, when we left the cave and came to this place."

13Respondeu Eva: «Se, em verdade, a terra tremeu por nossa causa, e esta rocha forma uma tenda sobre nós por causa de nossa transgressão, então teremos grande pesar, ó Adão, porque nosso castigo será prolongado.

13Then Eve said, "If, indeed, the earth quaked for our sake, and this rock forms a tent over us because of our transgression, then we will be sorry, O Adam, because our punishment will be long.

14Mas levanta-te e ora a Deus para que nos faça saber acerca disto, e o que é esta rocha que está estendida sobre nós como uma tenda».

14But get up and pray to God to let us know concerning this, and what this rock is that is spread over us like a tent."

15Levantou-se então Adão e orou diante do Senhor, para que lhe fizesse saber o que provocara tão dura aflição. E assim permaneceu Adão em oração até o amanhecer.

15Then Adam stood up and prayed before the Lord, to let him know what had brought about this difficult time. And Adam stood praying like that until the morning.
