1Com a morte de Eleazar, os soldados levaram os sete irmãos e sua mãe para serem torturados.

1With the death of Eleazar, the soldiers took the seven brothers and their mother to be tortured.

2Espancando-os com chicotes e correias de couro, tentavam forçá-los a comer a carne proibida.

2Beating them with whips and leather straps, they tried to force them to eat the forbidden meat.

3O mais velho dos jovens disse: Por que tardas, tirano? Estamos prontos a morrer em vez de transgredir os mandamentos de nossos pais.

3The oldest of the young men said: Why do you delay, tyrant? We are ready to die rather than transgress the commandments of our fathers.

4Envergonharíamos nossos antepassados se não obedecêssemos à lei e tomássemos a razão como nosso guia.

4We would shame our ancestors if we did not obey the law and take reason as our guide.

5Ó tirano, conselheiro da transgressão da lei, não tenhas piedade de nós enquanto nos torturas mais do que nós temos de nós mesmos.

5O tyrant, counselor of transgression of the law, do not have pity on us while you torture us more than we have on ourselves.

6Pois consideramos esta piedade, ao não sermos salvos pela transgressão de nossa lei, como mais doce do que a vida.

6For we consider this piety, not being saved by transgression of our law, sweeter than life.

7Pensas fazer-nos abandonar nosso raciocínio ao nos torturares, e assim forçar-nos a comer carne impura.

7You think to make us abandon our reasoning by torturing us, and thus force us to eat unclean meat.

8Mas tuas torturas são agradáveis para nós, quando as suportamos por causa da virtude.

8But your tortures are pleasant to us, when we endure them for the sake of virtue.

9E tu, por causa de nossa destruição ímpia, sofrerás das mãos da justiça divina tormentos eternos pelo fogo.

9And you, because of our impious destruction, will suffer from the hands of divine justice eternal torments by fire.

10Quando ele disse estas coisas, os guardas o lançaram no fogo e o torturaram na roda.

10When he said these things, the guards threw him into the fire and tortured him on the wheel.
