4 Macabeus 18

1Ó mãe, soldado de Deus na causa da piedade, anciã e mulher! Pela perseverança derrotaste até o tirano.

1O mother, soldier of God in the cause of piety, old woman and woman! By perseverance you defeated even the tyrant.

2Revelaste-te mais poderosa que um homem em ações, e mais forte que homens em palavras.

2You revealed yourself more powerful than a man in deeds, and stronger than men in words.

3Pois quando fostes presa com teus filhos, permaneceste firme, vendo Eleazar sendo torturado.

3For when you were seized with your sons, you remained firm, seeing Eleazar being tortured.

4E disseste a teus filhos na língua hebraica: Meus filhos, nobre é a luta, para a qual fostes chamados a dar o testemunho da nação.

4And you said to your sons in the Hebrew language: My sons, noble is the struggle, to which you have been called to give testimony for the nation.

5Lutai zelosamente pelo lei de nossos pais.

5Fight zealously for the law of our fathers.

6Pois seria vergonhoso se, enquanto este ancião suporta as dores por causa da piedade, vós, jovens, temêsseis as torturas.

6For it would be shameful if, while this old man endures the pains for the sake of piety, you, young men, should fear the tortures.

7Lembrai-vos de que é por causa de Deus que participais do mundo e desfrutais a vida.

7Remember that it is because of God that you partake of the world and enjoy life.

8Por isso deveis suportar qualquer sofrimento por causa de Deus.

8Therefore you must endure any suffering for the sake of God.

9Por ele também nosso pai Abraão se apressou a sacrificar Isaque, seu filho, o pai das nações.

9For his sake also our father Abraham hastened to sacrifice Isaac, his son, the father of nations.

10E Isaque, vendo a mão de seu pai descer com a faca contra ele, não recuou.

10And Isaac, seeing the hand of his father descend with the knife against him, did not draw back.
