1Se então uma mulher, avançada em anos e mãe de sete filhos, suportou ver seus filhos torturados até a morte, deve-se reconhecer que a razão piedosa é soberana sobre as paixões.

1If then a woman, advanced in years and mother of seven sons, endured seeing her sons tortured to death, it must be acknowledged that pious reason is sovereign over the passions.

2Demonstrei, portanto, que não apenas homens têm dominado suas paixões, mas também uma mulher desprezou as maiores torturas.

2I have demonstrated, therefore, that not only men have mastered their passions, but also a woman despised the greatest tortures.

8Ó sete partos inúteis e sete confinamentos infrutíferos, em vão amamentações e miseráveis cuidados.
