4 Macabeus 10

1E quando ele estava para expirar, disse: Somos nascidos do mesmo ventre e irmãos, fomos criados com os mesmos princípios, e somos obrigados a morrer pelas mesmas causas.

1And when he was about to expire, he said: We are born of the same womb and brothers, we were raised with the same principles, and we are obliged to die for the same causes.

2E vós, guardas, por que tardais?

2And you, guards, why do you delay?

3E assim quando ele morreu corajosamente na tortura, o segundo irmão foi trazido e, dando-lhe garras de ferro, eles o prenderam ao instrumento de tortura.

3And so when he died courageously in torture, the second brother was brought forward and, giving him iron claws, they fastened him to the instrument of torture.

4E quando perguntaram se ele comeria antes de ser torturado, ele respondeu na língua de seus pais: Não.

4And when they asked if he would eat before being tortured, he replied in his fathers' tongue: No.

5Por isso ele também recebeu em sucessão as torturas como seu irmão.

5Therefore he also received in succession the tortures like his brother.

6Mas quando estava para morrer, disse: Miserável tirano, libertas-nos desta vida presente, mas o Rei do universo nos ressuscitará para uma vida eterna.

6But when he was about to die, he said: Miserable tyrant, you release us from this present life, but the King of the universe will raise us up for an eternal life.

7O terceiro irmão foi trazido e eles pediram que mostrasse a língua prontamente.

7The third brother was brought forward and they asked him to show his tongue promptly.

8E ele a estendeu, estendendo também corajosamente as mãos, e disse nobremente:

8And he extended it, also courageously extending his hands, and said nobly:

9Do céu recebi estas, e por causa das leis de Deus as desprezo, e dele espero recebê-las de volta.

9From heaven I received these, and because of the laws of God I despise them, and from him I hope to receive them back.

10O próprio rei e seus acompanhantes ficaram espantados com a virtude do jovem, que considerava as dores como nada.

10The king himself and his attendants were astonished at the virtue of the young man, who considered pains as nothing.
