4 Esdras 7

1Quando terminei de falar estas palavras, foi-me enviado o anjo que tinha vindo a mim nas noites anteriores.

1When I finished speaking these words, the angel who had come to me in the previous nights was sent to me.

2E ele me disse: Levanta-te, Esdras, e ouve as palavras que vim te dizer.

2And he said to me: Rise, Esdras, and hear the words I have come to tell you.

3E eu disse: Fala, meu Deus. E ele me disse: O mar está colocado num lugar amplo, para ser profundo e imensurável.

3And I said: Speak, my God. And he said to me: The sea is placed in a wide place, to be deep and immeasurable.

4Mas suponha que a entrada fosse estreita e como um rio.

4But suppose the entrance were narrow and like a river.

5Quem poderia descer ao mar para vê-lo ou para dominá-lo? Se não passasse pelo estreito, como poderia chegar ao largo?

5Who could go down to the sea to see it or to dominate it? If he did not pass through the strait, how could he reach the wide sea?

6Ou: Uma cidade foi construída e colocada numa planície, e está cheia de todas as coisas boas.

6Or: A city was built and placed on a plain, and it is full of all good things.

7Mas a entrada para ela é estreita e colocada num precipício, com fogo à direita e água profunda à esquerda.

7But the entrance to it is narrow and placed on a precipice, with fire on the right and deep water on the left.

8E há somente uma trilha entre os dois, apenas para um homem andar.

8And there is only one path between the two, only for one man to walk.

9Se a cidade foi dada de herança a um homem, como poderia o herdeiro receber sua herança se não passasse pelo perigo diante dele?

9If the city was given as an inheritance to a man, how could the heir receive his inheritance if he did not pass through the danger before him?

10E eu disse: Assim é, Senhor. E ele me disse: Assim é a porção de Israel.

10And I said: So it is, Lord. And he said to me: So is the portion of Israel.
