4 Esdras 3

1No trigésimo ano após a destruição da cidade, eu, Salatiel, também chamado Esdras, estava em Babilônia, deitado em minha cama, perturbado.

1In the thirtieth year after the destruction of the city, I, Salathiel, also called Esdras, was in Babylon, lying on my bed, disturbed.

2E meus pensamentos me vieram ao coração, porque vi a desolação de Sião e a opulência dos que habitavam em Babilônia.

2And my thoughts came to my heart, because I saw the desolation of Zion and the opulence of those who lived in Babylon.

3E meu espírito ficou muito perturbado, e comecei a falar palavras cheias de temor ao Altíssimo, e disse:

3And my spirit was greatly disturbed, and I began to speak words full of fear to the Most High, and said:

4Ó Senhor, ó Soberano, não falaste tu no início, quando criaste a terra — e isso sozinho — e comandaste a poeira?

4O Lord, O Sovereign, did you not speak in the beginning, when you created the earth — and that alone — and commanded the dust?

5E ela te deu Adão, um corpo sem vida. Contudo, ele era criatura de tuas mãos, e tu sopraste nele o fôlego de vida, e ele se tornou vivente em tua presença.

5And it gave you Adam, a lifeless body. Yet he was a creature of your hands, and you breathed into him the breath of life, and he became living in your presence.

6E tu o conduziste ao paraíso, que tua mão direita havia plantado antes de a terra ter aparecido.

6And you led him into paradise, which your right hand had planted before the earth had appeared.

7E ordenaste-lhe que amasse teus caminhos, mas ele os transgrediu, e imediatamente instituíste a morte para ele e sua descendência.

7And you commanded him to love your ways, but he transgressed them, and immediately you appointed death for him and his descendants.

8Dele nasceram nações e tribos, povos e clãs, sem número.

8From him were born nations and tribes, peoples and clans, without number.

9E cada nação andou segundo sua própria vontade, e se comportou impiamente diante de ti, desprezando teus mandamentos; e tu não os impediste.

9And each nation walked according to its own will, and behaved impiously before you, despising your commandments; and you did not stop them.

10Mas depois, em seu tempo, trouxeste o dilúvio sobre os habitantes da terra e os destruíste.

10But afterward, in their time, you brought the flood upon the inhabitants of the earth and destroyed them.
