4 Esdras 1

1O segundo livro do profeta Esdras, filho de Seraías, filho de Azarias, filho de Helquias, filho de Salum, filho de Sadoq, filho de Aquitobe.

1The second book of the prophet Esdras, son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub.

2Filho de Aquias, filho de Finéias, filho de Eli, filho de Amarias, filho de Aziei, filho de Marimote, filho de Arna, filho de Uzias, filho de Boqui, filho de Abiseu, filho de Finéias, filho de Eleazar.

3Filho de Arão, da tribo de Levi. Eu, Esdras, estava cativo na terra dos medos, no reinado de Artaxerxes, rei dos persas.

3Son of Aaron, of the tribe of Levi. I, Esdras, was captive in the land of the Medes, in the reign of Artaxerxes, king of the Persians.

4E a palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo: Vai e anuncia ao meu povo as suas maldades, e aos seus filhos os pecados que cometeram contra mim.

4And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Go and proclaim to my people their wicked deeds, and to their children the sins they have committed against me.

5Diz-lhes que falem aos seus netos, pois os pecados de seus pais cresceram neles, pois esquecendo-se de mim, ofereceram sacrifícios a deuses estranhos.

5Tell them to speak to their grandchildren, for the sins of their fathers have grown in them, for forgetting me, they offered sacrifices to strange gods.

6Não fui eu quem os libertou da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão? Mas eles me provocaram à ira e desprezaram meus conselhos.

6Was it not I who delivered them from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage? But they provoked me to anger and despised my counsels.

7Arranca, pois, os cabelos da tua cabeça, lança sobre eles todos os males, pois não obedeceram à minha lei. São um povo indisciplinado.

7Pluck, then, the hair from your head, cast upon them all evils, for they have not obeyed my law. They are an undisciplined people.

8Até quando suportarei aqueles a quem tanto beneficiei?

8How long shall I bear with those to whom I have done so much good?

9Por amor deles, derrubei muitos reis. Destruí o faraó e seus servos, e todo o seu exército.

9For their sake, I overthrew many kings. I destroyed Pharaoh and his servants, and all his army.

10Destruí todas as nações diante deles e expulsei os povos de duas províncias, Tiro e Sidon. Matei todos os seus inimigos.

10I destroyed all nations before them and expelled the peoples of two provinces, Tyre and Sidon. I killed all their enemies.
