4 Baruque 7

1E Baruque levantou-se e saiu do túmulo e encontrou a águia sentada fora do túmulo.

1And Baruch got up and departed from the tomb and found the eagle sitting outside the tomb.

2E a águia disse-lhe com voz humana: Salve, Baruque, despenseiro da fé.

2And the eagle said to him in a human voice: Hail, Baruch, steward of the faith.

3E Baruque lhe disse: Tu que falas és escolhido dentre todas as aves do céu, pois isso fica claro pelo brilho dos teus olhos; diga-me, então, o que você está fazendo aqui?

3And Baruch said to him: You who speak are chosen from among all the birds of heaven, for this is clear from the gleam of your eyes; tell me, then, what are you doing here?

4E a águia lhe disse: Fui enviada aqui para que você, através de mim, envie a mensagem que quiser.

4And the eagle said to him: I was sent here so that you might through me send whatever message you want.

5E Baruque lhe disse: Você pode levar esta mensagem a Jeremias na Babilônia?

5And Baruch said to him: Can you carry this message to Jeremiah in Babylon?

6E a águia lhe disse: Na verdade, foi para esta razão que fui enviado.

6And the eagle said to him: Indeed, it was for this reason I was sent.

7E Baruque pegou a carta, e 15 figos do cesto de Abimeleque, e amarrou-os no pescoço da águia e disse-lhe: Eu te digo, rei dos pássaros, vai em paz e com boa saúde e leva a mensagem para mim.

7And Baruch took the letter, and 15 figs from Abimelech's basket, and tied them to the eagle's neck and said to him: I say to you, king of the birds, go in peace with good health and carry the message for me.

8Não seja como o corvo que Noé enviou e que nunca mais voltou para ele na arca; mas seja como a pomba que, pela terceira vez, trouxe um relatório ao justo.

8Do not be like the raven which Noah sent out and which never came back to him in the ark; but be like the dove which, the third time, brought a report to the righteous one.

9Portanto, leve você também esta boa mensagem a Jeremias e aos que estão em sua escravidão, para que tudo vá bem para você - leve este papiro ao povo e ao escolhido de Deus.

9So you also, take this good message to Jeremiah and to those in bondage with him, that it may be well with you-take this papyrus to the people and to the chosen one of God.

10Mesmo que todas as aves do céu o cercem e queiram lutar com você, lute – o Senhor lhe dará forças.

10Even if all the birds of heaven surround you and want to fight with you, struggle -- the Lord will give you strength.

11E não se vire para a direita ou para a esquerda, mas direto como uma flecha veloz, vá no poder de Deus, e a glória do Senhor estará com você durante todo o caminho.

11And do not turn aside to the right or to the left, but straight as a speeding arrow, go in the power of God, and the glory of the Lord will be with you the entire way.

12Então a águia levantou vôo e foi para a Babilônia, tendo a carta amarrada ao pescoço; e quando ele chegou descansou num posto fora da cidade, num lugar deserto.

12Then the eagle took flight and went away to Babylon, having the letter tied to his neck; and when he arrived he rested on a post outside the city in a desert place.

13E ele ficou em silêncio até que Jeremias apareceu, pois ele e alguns do povo estavam saindo para enterrar um cadáver fora da cidade.

13And he kept silent until Jeremiah came along, for he and some of the people were coming out to bury a corpse outside the city.

14(Pois Jeremias havia pedido ao rei Nabucodonosor, dizendo: “Dê-me um lugar onde eu possa enterrar os que morreram do meu povo;” e o rei deu-lho a ele.)

14(For Jeremiah had petitioned king Nebuchadnezzar, saying: "Give me a place where I may bury those of my people who have died;" and the king gave it to him.)

15E quando saíam com o corpo e chorando, chegaram onde estava a águia.

15And as they were coming out with the body, and weeping, they came to where the eagle was.

16E a águia gritou em alta voz, dizendo: Eu te digo: Jeremias, o escolhido de Deus, vai e reúne o povo e vem aqui para que ouçam uma carta que te trouxe de Baruque e Abimeleque.

16And the eagle cried out in a loud voice, saying: I say to you, Jeremiah the chosen one of God, go and gather together the people and come here so that they may hear a letter which I have brought to you from Baruch and Abimelech.

17E quando Jeremias ouviu isso, glorificou a Deus; e ele foi e reuniu o povo junto com suas esposas e filhos, e chegou onde a águia estava.

17And when Jeremiah heard this, he glorified God; and he went and gathered together the people along with their wives and children, and he came to where the eagle was.

18E a águia desceu sobre o cadáver, e ele reviveu.

18And the eagle came down on the corpse, and it revived.

19(Ora, isto aconteceu para que cressem.)

19(Now this took place so that they might believe.)

20E todo o povo ficou admirado com o que havia acontecido e disse: Este é o Deus que apareceu a nossos pais no deserto por meio de Moisés, e agora nos apareceu por meio da águia.

20And all the people were astounded at what had happened, and said: This is the God who appeared to our fathers in the wilderness through Moses, and now he has appeared to us through the eagle.

21E a águia disse: Eu te digo, Jeremias, venha, desamarre esta carta e leia-a para o povo - Então ele desamarrou a carta e leu-a para o povo.

21And the eagle said: I say to you, Jeremiah, come, untie this letter and read it to the people -- So he untied the letter and read it to the people.

22E quando o povo ouviu isso, chorou e pôs pó na cabeça, e disse a Jeremias: Livra-nos e diz-nos o que fazer para que possamos entrar novamente na nossa cidade.

22And when the people heard it, they wept and put dust on their heads, and they said to Jeremiah: Deliver us and tell us what to do that we may once again enter our city.

23E Jeremias respondeu e disse-lhes: Façam tudo o que ouviram na carta, e o Senhor nos levará à nossa cidade.

23And Jeremiah answered and said to them: Do whatever you heard from the letter, and the Lord will lead us into our city.

24E Jeremias escreveu uma carta a Baruque, dizendo assim: Meu filho amado, não seja negligente em suas orações, suplicando a Deus em nosso favor, para que ele possa dirigir nosso caminho até que saiamos da jurisdição deste rei iníquo.

24And Jeremiah wrote a letter to Baruch, saying thus: My beloved son, do not be negligent in your prayers, beseeching God on our behalf, that he might direct our way until we come out of the jurisdiction of this lawless king.

25Pois vocês foram considerados justos diante de Deus, e ele não os deixou vir aqui, para que não vissem a aflição que caiu sobre o povo pelas mãos dos babilônios.

25For you have been found righteous before God, and he did not let you come here, lest you see the affliction which has come upon the people at the hands of the Babylonians.

26Pois é como um pai com um filho único, que é entregue ao castigo; e aqueles que vêem seu pai e o consolam cobrem seu rosto, para que ele não veja como seu filho está sendo punido e seja ainda mais devastado pela dor.

26For it is like a father with an only son, who is given over for punishment; and those who see his father and console him cover his face, lest he see how his son is being punished, and be even more ravaged by grief.

27Pois assim Deus teve piedade de vocês e não os deixou entrar na Babilônia, para que não vissem a aflição do povo.

27For thus God took pity on you and did not let you enter Babylon lest you see the affliction of the people.

28Pois desde que chegamos aqui, a dor não nos abandonou, há 66 anos.

28For since we came here, grief has not left us, for 66 years today.

29Muitas vezes quando saí encontrei algumas pessoas penduradas pelo rei Nabucodonosor, chorando e dizendo: “Tem piedade de nós, Deus-ZAR!”

29For many times when I went out I found some of the people hung up by king Nebuchadnezzar, crying and saying: "Have mercy on us, God-ZAR!"

30Quando ouvi isso, sofri e chorei com um luto duplo, não apenas porque eles estavam desligados, mas porque invocavam um Deus estranho, dizendo: "Tenha misericórdia de nós".

30When I heard this, I grieved and cried with two-fold mourning, not only because they were hung up, but because they were calling on a foreign God, saying "Have mercy on us."

31Mas lembrei-me dos dias de festa que celebramos em Jerusalém antes do nosso cativeiro; e quando me lembrei, gemi e voltei para minha casa chorando e chorando.

31But I remembered days of festivity which we celebrated in Jerusalem before our captivity; and when I remembered, I groaned, and returned to my house wailing and weeping.

32Agora, pois, no lugar onde vocês estão, você e Abimeleque, orem por este povo, para que ouçam a minha voz e os decretos da minha boca, para que possamos sair daqui.

32Now, then, pray in the place where you are -- you and Abimelech -- for this people, that they may listen to my voice and to the decrees of my mouth, so that we may depart from here.

33Pois eu lhes digo que durante todo o tempo que passamos aqui eles nos mantiveram em sujeição, dizendo: Recite para nós um cântico dos cânticos de Sião, o cântico do seu Deus.

33For I tell you that the entire time that we have spent here they have kept us in subjection, saying: Recite for us a song from the songs of Zion -- the song of your God.

34E nós lhes respondemos: Como cantaremos para vocês, já que estamos em terra estrangeira?

34And we reply to them: How shall we sing for you since we are in a foreign land?

35E depois disso, Jeremias amarrou a carta no pescoço da águia, dizendo: Vá em paz, e que o Senhor cuide de nós dois.

35And after this, Jeremiah tied the letter to the eagle's neck, saying: Go in peace, and may the Lord watch over both of us.

36E a águia levantou voo e veio a Jerusalém e entregou a carta a Baruque; e depois de desamarrá-lo, leu-o, beijou-o e chorou ao ouvir sobre as angústias e aflições do povo.

36And the eagle took flight and came to Jerusalem and gave the letter to Baruch; and when he had untied it he read it and kissed it and wept when he heard about the distresses and afflictions of the people.

37Mas Jeremias pegou os figos e os distribuiu aos enfermos entre o povo, e continuou ensinando-os a se absterem das poluições dos gentios da Babilônia.

37But Jeremiah took the figs and distributed them to the sick among the people, and he kept teaching them to abstain from the pollutions of the gentiles of Babylon.
