4 Baruque 1

1Aconteceu que, quando os filhos de Israel foram levados cativos pelo rei dos caldeus, Deus falou a Jeremias dizendo: Jeremias, meu escolhido, levanta-te e sai desta cidade, tu e Baruque, pois vou destruí-la por causa da multidão dos pecados dos que nela habitam.

1It came to pass, when the children of Israel were taken captive by the king of the Chaldeans, that God spoke to Jeremiah saying: Jeremiah, my chosen one, arise and depart from this city, you and Baruch, since I am going to destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of those who dwell in it.

2Pois as vossas orações são como uma coluna sólida no meio dela e como um muro indestrutível que a rodeia.

2For your prayers are like a solid pillar in its midst, and like an indestructible wall surrounding it.

3Agora, então, levante-se e parta antes que o exército dos caldeus o cerque.

3Now, then, arise and depart before the host of the Chaldeans surrounds it.

4E Jeremias respondeu, dizendo: Rogo-te, Senhor, permite-me, teu servo, falar na tua presença.

4And Jeremiah answered, saying: I beseech you, Lord, permit me, your servant, to speak in your presence.

5E o Senhor lhe disse: Fala, meu escolhido Jeremias.

5And the Lord said to him: Speak, my chosen one Jeremiah.

6E Jeremias falou, dizendo: Senhor Todo-Poderoso, entregarias a cidade escolhida nas mãos dos caldeus, para que o rei e a multidão do seu povo se gloriassem e dissessem: “Eu prevaleci sobre a cidade santa de Deus”?

6And Jeremiah spoke, saying: Lord Almighty, would you deliver the chosen city into the hands of the Chaldeans, so that the king with the multitude of his people might boast and say: "I have prevailed over the holy city of God"?

7Não, meu Senhor, mas se for da sua vontade, que seja destruído pelas suas mãos.

7No, my Lord, but if it is your will, let it be destroyed by your hands.

8E o Senhor disse a Jeremias: Já que você é meu escolhido, levante-se e saia desta cidade, você e Baruque, porque vou destruí-la por causa da multidão dos pecados daqueles que nela habitam.

8And the Lord said to Jeremiah: Since you are my chosen one, arise and depart form this city, you and Baruch, for I am going to destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of those who dwell in it.

9Pois nem o rei nem o seu exército poderão entrar nela, a menos que eu primeiro abra as suas portas.

9For neither the king nor his host will be able to enter it unless I first open its gates.

10Levante-se, então, vá até Baruque e diga-lhe estas palavras.

10Arise, then, and go to Baruch, and tell him these words.

11E quando você se levantar, à sexta hora da noite, saia até os muros da cidade e eu lhe mostrarei que, a menos que eu primeiro destrua a cidade, eles não poderão entrar nela.

11And when you have arisen at the sixth hour of the night, go out on the city walls and I will show you that unless I first destroy the city, they cannot enter it.

12Dito isto, o Senhor afastou-se de Jeremias.

12When the Lord had said this, he departed from Jeremiah.
