1O rei Ptolomeu Filópator às guarnições egípcias, saúde e prosperidade!

1King Ptolemy Philopator to the Egyptian garrisons, greeting and prosperity!

2Nós estamos bem, assim como nossos filhos; o grande Deus tem dirigido nossos negócios conforme nosso desejo.

2We are well, as are our children; the great God has directed our affairs according to our desire.

3Alguns de nossos amigos, por maldade, nos persuadiram a reunir os judeus do reino e sujeitá-los a torturas extraordinárias.

3Some of our friends, out of malice, persuaded us to gather the Jews of the kingdom and subject them to extraordinary tortures.

4Alegaram que os negócios do nosso reino jamais prosperariam por causa da hostilidade que eles nutriam contra todas as nações.

4They alleged that the affairs of our kingdom would never prosper because of the hostility they harbored against all nations.

5Foi assim que os trouxeram a ferro e correntes, tratando-os como escravos ou até como traidores.

5It was thus that they were brought in irons and chains, treated as slaves or even as traitors.

6Tentaram, sem qualquer exame ou averiguação, exterminá-los com uma crueldade mais selvagem do que a lei cita.

6They tried, without any examination or investigation, to exterminate them with a cruelty more savage than Scythian law.

7Nós, porém, nos irritamos gravemente contra eles e mal pudemos poupá-los, de acordo com a benevolência que temos para com todos os homens.

7We, however, were gravely irritated against them and could barely spare them, in accordance with the benevolence we have toward all men.

8Observando de modo inequívoco que o Deus celeste certamente é defensor dos judeus.

8Observing unequivocally that the heavenly God is certainly the defender of the Jews.

9Como um pai, sempre luta em defesa dos filhos.

9As a father, he always fights in defense of his children.

10Considerando ainda a benevolência imutável que eles têm para conosco e para com nossos antepassados.

10Considering also the unchanging benevolence they have toward us and toward our ancestors.

11Com justiça os absolvemos de toda acusação de qualquer natureza.

11With justice we acquit them of all accusation of any nature.

12Ordenamos que todos voltem para suas casas, e que ninguém em lugar algum lhes faça mal.

12We order that all return to their homes, and that no one anywhere harm them.

13Ninguém os moleste por nenhum dos acontecimentos que tiveram lugar sem razão.

13Let no one molest them for any of the events that took place without reason.

14Sabei que se maquinarmos algum mal contra eles ou em qualquer ponto os afligirmos, não teremos diante de nós um homem, mas o Deus altíssimo.

14Know that if we plot any evil against them or in any way afflict them, we shall have before us not a man, but the Most High God.

15Ele, como senhor de todo poder, será nosso adversário inevitável, punindo-nos conforme nossas ações.

15He, as lord of all power, will be our inevitable adversary, punishing us according to our deeds.

16Os judeus, tendo recebido esta carta, não partiram imediatamente.

16The Jews, having received this letter, did not depart immediately.

17Pediram ao rei que lhes fosse permitido punir com suas próprias mãos aqueles de seu povo que haviam transgredido voluntariamente o Deus santo.

17They asked the king to allow them to punish with their own hands those of their people who had voluntarily transgressed the holy God.

18O rei concedeu-lhes permissão, e eles executaram mais de trezentos homens naquele dia.

18The king granted them permission, and they executed more than three hundred men that day.

19Depois celebraram durante sete dias um festival de alegria no local onde deveriam ter sido mortos.

19Then they celebrated for seven days a festival of joy at the place where they should have been killed.

20Determinaram que essas festividades fossem celebradas anualmente.

20They determined that these festivities should be celebrated annually.

21Os judeus, assim libertados de toda acusação de morte, louvaram a Deus, seu sagrado Libertador.

21The Jews, thus freed from all accusation of death, praised God, their holy Deliverer.

22O rei ofereceu-lhes um banquete e lhes restituiu tudo o que lhes havia sido confiscado.

22The king offered them a banquet and restored to them all that had been confiscated.

23Dessa forma partiram alegremente para suas casas.

23Thus they departed joyfully to their homes.

24O todo-poderoso Deus de Israel seja bendito para sempre. Amém.
