3 João 1

1O presbítero ao amado Gaio, a quem em verdade eu amo.

1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. {in...: or, truly}

2Amado, desejo que te vá bem em todas as coisas, e que tenhas saúde, assim como bem vai a tua alma.

2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. {wish: or, pray}

3Porque muito me alegrei quando os irmãos vieram, e testificaram da tua verdade, como tu andas na verdade.

3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

4Não tenho maior gozo do que este, o de ouvir que os meus filhos andam na verdade.

4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

5Amado, procedes fielmente em tudo o que fazes para com os irmãos, e para com os estranhos,

5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6Que em presença da igreja testificaram do teu amor; aos quais, se conduzires como é digno para com Deus, bem farás;

6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: {after...: Gr. worthy of God}

7Porque pelo seu Nome saíram, nada tomando dos gentios.

7Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8Portanto, aos tais devemos receber, para que sejamos cooperadores da verdade.

8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth. {fellowhelpers: or, joint-labourers}

9Tenho escrito à igreja; mas Diótrefes, que procura ter entre eles o primado, não nos recebe.

9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10Por isso, se eu for, trarei à memória as obras que ele faz, proferindo contra nós palavras maliciosas; e, não contente com isto, não recebe os irmãos, e impede os que querem recebê-los, e os lança fora da igreja.

10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth {them} out of the church.

11Amado, não sigas o mal, mas o bem. Quem faz o bem é de Deus; mas quem faz o mal não tem visto a Deus.

11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12Todos dão testemunho de Demétrio, até a mesma verdade; e também nós testemunhamos; e vós bem sabeis que o nosso testemunho é verdadeiro.

12Demetrius hath good report of all {men}, and of the truth itself: yea, and we {also} bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13Tinha muito que escrever, mas não quero escrever-te com tinta e pena.

13I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14Espero, porém, ver-te brevemente, e falaremos face a face.

14But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face.

15Paz seja contigo. Os amigos te saúdam. Saúda os amigos por nome.

15Peace {be} to thee. {Our} friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name. {face to...: Gr. mouth to mouth}
