3 Baruque 7

1E ele me levou e me levou para onde o sol nasce; e ele me mostrou uma carruagem e quatro, sob as quais ardia um fogo, e na carruagem estava sentado um homem, usando uma coroa de fogo, (e) a carruagem (era) puxada por quarenta anjos.

1And he took me and led me where the sun goes forth; and he showed me a chariot and four, under which burnt a fire, and in the chariot was sitting a man, wearing a crown of fire, (and) the chariot (was) drawn by forty angels.

2E eis um pássaro circulando diante do sol, a cerca de nove côvados de distância.

2And behold a bird circling before the sun, about nine cubits away.

3E eu disse ao anjo: Que pássaro é este?

3And I said to the angel, What is this bird?

4E ele me disse: Este é o guardião da terra.

4And he said to me, This is the guardian of the earth.

5E eu disse: Senhor, como ele é o guardião da terra? Ensine-me.

5And I said, Lord, how is he the guardian of the earth? Teach me.

6E o anjo me disse: Este pássaro voa ao lado do sol, e expandindo suas asas recebe seus raios de fogo. Pois se ele não os recebesse, a raça humana não seria preservada, nem qualquer outra criatura viva. Mas Deus designou este pássaro para isso.

6And the angel said to me, This bird flies alongside of the sun, and expanding his wings receives its fiery rays. For if he were not receiving them, the human race would not be preserved, nor any other living creature. But God appointed this bird thereto.

7E ele expandiu suas asas, e vi em sua asa direita letras muito grandes, tão grandes quanto o espaço de uma eira, do tamanho de cerca de quatro mil modii;

7And he expanded his wings, and I saw on his right wing very large letters, as large as the space of a threshing-floor, the size of about four thousand modii;

8e as letras eram de ouro. E o anjo me disse: Leia-os.

8and the letters were of gold. And the angel said to me, Read them.

9E eu li e eles correram assim: Nem a terra nem o céu me geram, mas asas de fogo me geram. E eu disse: Senhor, o que é este pássaro e qual é o seu nome?

9And I read and they ran thus: Neither earth nor heaven bring me forth, but wings of fire bring me forth. And I said, Lord, what is this bird, and what is his name?

10E o anjo me disse: Seu nome é Fênix. (E eu disse), E o que ele come? E ele me disse: O maná do céu e o orvalho da terra.

10And the angel said to me, His name is called Phoenix. (And I said), And what does he eat? And he said to me, The manna of heaven and the dew of earth.

11E eu disse: O pássaro excreta? E ele me disse: Ele excreta um verme, e o excremento do verme é a canela, que os reis e os príncipes usam. Mas espere e você verá a glória de Deus.

11And I said, Does the bird excrete? And he said to me, He excretes a worm, and the excrement of the worm is cinnamon, which kings and princes use. But wait and thou shalt see the glory of God.

12E enquanto ele estava conversando comigo, houve um trovão, e o lugar onde estávamos foi abalado. E perguntei ao anjo, Meu Senhor, que som é esse?

12And while he was conversing with me, there was as a thunder-clap, and the place was shaken on which we were standing. And I asked the angel, My Lord, what is this sound?

13E o anjo me disse: Mesmo agora os anjos estão abrindo os trezentos e sessenta e cinco portões do céu, e a luz está sendo separada das trevas. E veio uma voz que disse: Doador de luz, dê brilho ao mundo.

13And the angel said to me, Even now the angels are opening the three hundred and sixty-five gates of heaven, and the light is being separated from the darkness. And a voice came which said, Light giver, give to the world radiance.

14E quando ouvi o barulho do pássaro, perguntei: Senhor, que barulho é esse?

14And when I heard the noise of the bird, I said, Lord, what is this noise?

15E ele disse: Este é o pássaro que desperta do sono os galos da terra. Pois assim como os homens fazem pela boca, o galo também significa para os que estão no mundo, em sua própria fala. Pois o sol é preparado pelos anjos e o galo canta.

15And he said, This is the bird who awakens from slumber the cocks upon earth. For as men do through the mouth, so also does the cock signify to those in the world, in his own speech. For the sun is made ready by the angels, and the cock crows.
