3 Baruque 5

1E eu, Baruque, disse: Eis que, Senhor, me mostraste coisas grandes e maravilhosas; e agora mostre-me todas as coisas por causa do Senhor.

1And I Baruch said, Behold, Lord, Thou didst show me great and wonderful things; and now show me all things for the sake of the Lord.

2E o anjo me disse: Vem, prossigamos. (E eu prossegui) com o anjo daquele lugar cerca de cento e oitenta e cinco dias de viagem.

2And the angel said to me, Come, let us proceed. (And I proceeded) with the angel from that place about one hundred and eighty-five days' journey.

3E ele me mostrou uma planície e uma serpente, que parecia ter duzentos plethra de comprimento.

3And he showed me a plain and a serpent, which appeared to be two hundred plethra in length.

4E ele me mostrou Hades, e sua aparência era sombria e abominável.

4And he showed me Hades, and its appearance was dark and abominable.

5E eu disse: Quem é esse dragão e quem é esse monstro ao seu redor?

5And I said, Who is this dragon, and who is this monster around him?

6E o anjo disse: O dragão é aquele que come os corpos daqueles que passam a vida perversamente, e é alimentado por eles. E este é o Hades, que também se parece muito com ele, na medida em que também bebe cerca de um côvado do mar, que não afunda de forma alguma.

6And the angel said, The dragon is he who eats the bodies of those who spend their life wickedly, and he is nourished by them. And this is Hades, which itself also closely resembles him, in that it also drinks about a cubit from the sea, which does not sink at all.

7Baruch disse: E como (isso acontece)? E o anjo disse: Ouça, o Senhor Deus fez trezentos e sessenta rios, dos quais os principais de todos são Alphias, Abyrus e Gericus; [4:e] por causa disso o mar não afunda.

7Baruch said, And how (does this happen)? And the angel said, Hearken, the Lord God made three hundred and sixty rivers, of which the chief of all are Alphias, Abyrus, and the Gericus; [4:and] because of these the sea does not sink.

8E eu disse: Rogo-te que me mostres qual é a árvore que desencaminhou Adão.

8And I said, I pray thee show me which is the tree which led Adam astray.

9E o anjo me disse: É a videira que o anjo Sammael plantou, onde o Senhor Deus se irou, e Ele amaldiçoou ele e sua planta, enquanto também por esse motivo Ele não permitiu que Adão a tocasse, e portanto o diabo sendo invejoso o enganou através de sua videira.

9And the angel said to me, It is the vine, which the angel Sammael planted, whereat the Lord God was angry, and He cursed him and his plant, while also on this account He did not permit Adam to touch it, and therefore the devil being envious deceived him through his vine.

10[E eu, Baruque, disse: Visto que também a videira foi a causa de tão grande mal, e está sob o julgamento da maldição de Deus, e foi a destruição dos primeiros criados, como é agora tão útil?

10[And I Baruch said, Since also the vine has been the cause of such great evil, and is under judgment of the curse of God, and was the destruction of the first created, how is it now so useful?

11E o anjo disse: Tu perguntas bem. Quando Deus causou o dilúvio sobre a terra e destruiu toda a carne e quatrocentos e nove mil gigantes, e a água subiu quinze côvados acima das montanhas mais altas, então a água entrou no paraíso e destruiu todas as flores; mas retirou totalmente fora dos limites o rebento da videira e lançou-o fora. E quando a terra apareceu da água, e Noé saiu da arca, ele começou a plantar as plantas que encontrou.

11And the angel said, Thou askest aright. When God caused the deluge upon earth, and destroyed all flesh, and four hundred and nine thousand giants, and the water rose fifteen cubits above the highest mountains, then the water entered into paradise and destroyed every flower; but it removed wholly without the bounds the shoot of the vine and cast it outside. And when the earth appeared out of the water, and Noah came out of the ark, he began to plant of the plants which he found.

12Mas ele encontrou também o rebento da videira; e ele o pegou e pensou consigo mesmo: O que é então?

12But he found also the shoot of the vine; and he took it, and was reasoning in himself, What then is it?

13E eu vim e falei com ele sobre isso. E ele disse: Devo plantá-lo ou o que devo fazer? Já que Adão foi destruído por causa disso, não deixe que eu também enfrente a ira de Deus por causa disso.

13And I came and spake to him the things concerning it. And he said, Shall I plant it, or what shall I do? Since Adam was destroyed because of it, let me not also meet with the anger of God because of it.

14E dizendo estas coisas ele orou para que Deus lhe revelasse o que deveria fazer a respeito disso. E quando terminou a oração que durou quarenta dias, e tendo implorado muitas coisas e chorado, disse:

14And saying these things he prayed that God would reveal to him what he should do concerning it. And when he had completed the prayer which lasted forty days, and having besought many things and wept, he said:

15Senhor, peço-te que me revele o que farei com relação a esta planta. Mas Deus enviou o seu anjo Sarasael, e disse-lhe: Levanta-te, Noé, e planta o rebento da videira, porque assim diz o Senhor: O seu amargor se transformará em doçura, e a sua maldição se tornará uma bênção, e o que dele for produzido se tornará o sangue de Deus; e assim como através dele a raça humana obteve a condenação, também através de Jesus Cristo, o Emanuel, eles receberão Nele o chamado ascendente, [4: e] a entrada no paraíso].

15Lord, I entreat thee to reveal to me what I shall do concerning this plant. But God sent his angel Sarasael, and said to him, Arise, Noah, and plant the shoot of the vine, for thus saith the Lord : Its bitterness shall be changed into sweetness, and its curse shall become a blessing, and that which is produced from it shall become the blood of God; and as through it the human race obtained condemnation, so again through Jesus Christ the Immanuel will they receive in Him the upward calling, [4:and] the entry into paradise].

16Saiba, portanto, ó Baruque, que assim como Adão através desta mesma árvore obteve a condenação e foi despojado da glória de Deus, assim também os homens que agora bebem insaciavelmente o vinho que dela é gerado transgridem pior do que Adão e estão longe da glória de Deus e estão se rendendo ao fogo eterno.

16Know therefore, O Baruch, that as Adam through this very tree obtained condemnation, and was divested of the glory of God, so also the men who now drink insatiably the wine which is begotten of it, transgress worse than Adam, and are far from the glory of God, and are surrendering themselves to the eternal fire.

17Pois (não) o bem passa por isso. Pois aqueles que bebem até se fartar fazem estas coisas: nem um irmão se compadece de seu irmão, nem um pai de seu filho, nem os filhos de seus pais, mas do beber vinho vêm todos os males, como assassinatos, adultérios, fornicações, perjúrios, roubos e coisas semelhantes. E nada de bom é estabelecido por isso.

17For (no) good comes through it. For those who drink it to surfeit do these things: neither does a brother pity his brother, nor a father his son, nor children their parents, but from the drinking of wine come all evils, such as murders, adulteries, fornications, perjuries, thefts, and such like. And nothing good is established by it.
