2 Samuel 11

1E aconteceu que, tendo decorrido um ano, no tempo em que os reis saem à guerra, enviou Davi a Joabe, e com ele os seus servos, e a todo o Israel; e eles destruíram os filhos de Amom, e cercaram a Rabá; porém Davi ficou em Jerusalém.

1And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth {to battle}, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. {after...: Heb. at the return of the year, or, in the spring}

2E aconteceu que numa tarde Davi se levantou do seu leito, e andava passeando no terraço da casa real, e viu do terraço a uma mulher que se estava lavando; e era esta mulher mui formosa à vista.

2And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman {was} very beautiful to look upon.

3E mandou Davi indagar quem era aquela mulher; e disseram: Porventura não é esta Bate-Seba, filha de Eliã, mulher de Urias, o heteu?

3And David sent and enquired after the woman. And {one} said, {Is} not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? {Bathsheba: or, Bathshuah} {Eliam: or Ammiel}

4Então enviou Davi mensageiros, e mandou trazê-la; e ela veio, e ele se deitou com ela (pois já estava purificada da sua imundícia); então voltou ela para sua casa.

4And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. {for she...: or, and when she had purified herself, etc, she returned}

5E a mulher concebeu; e mandou dizer a Davi: Estou grávida.

5And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I {am} with child.

6Então Davi mandou dizer a Joabe: Envia-me Urias, o heteu. E Joabe enviou Urias a Davi.

6And David sent to Joab, {saying}, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

7Vindo, pois, Urias a ele, perguntou Davi como passava Joabe, e como estava o povo, e como ia a guerra.

7And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded {of him} how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered. {how Joab...: Heb. of the peace of, etc}

8Depois disse Davi a Urias: Desce à tua casa, e lava os teus pés. E, saindo Urias da casa real, logo lhe foi mandado um presente da mesa do rei.

8And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess {of meat} from the king. {followed...: Heb. went out after him}

9Porém Urias se deitou à porta da casa real, com todos os servos do seu senhor; e não desceu à sua casa.

9But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

10E fizeram saber isto a Davi, dizendo: Urias não desceu a sua casa. Então disse Davi à Urias: Não vens tu duma jornada? Por que não desceste à tua casa?

10And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from {thy} journey? why {then} didst thou not go down unto thine house?

11E disse Urias a Davi: A arca, e Israel, e Judá ficaram em tendas; e Joabe, meu senhor, e os servos de meu senhor estão acampados no campo; e hei de eu entrar na minha casa, para comer e beber, e para me deitar com minha mulher? Pela tua vida, e pela vida da tua alma, não farei tal coisa.

11And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? {as} thou livest, and {as} thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.

12Então disse Davi a Urias: Demora-te aqui ainda hoje, e amanhã te despedirei. Urias, pois, ficou em Jerusalém aquele dia e o seguinte.

12And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

13E Davi o convidou, e comeu e bebeu diante dele, e o embebedou; e à tarde saiu a deitar-se na sua cama com os servos de seu senhor; porém não desceu à sua casa.

13And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

14E sucedeu que pela manhã Davi escreveu uma carta a Joabe; e mandou-lha por mão de Urias.

14And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent {it} by the hand of Uriah.

15Escreveu na carta, dizendo: Ponde a Urias na frente da maior força da peleja; e retirai-vos de detrás dele, para que seja ferido e morra.

15And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. {hottest: Heb. strong} {from him: Heb. from after him}

16Aconteceu, pois, que, tendo Joabe observado bem a cidade, pôs a Urias no lugar onde sabia que havia homens valentes.

16And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men {were}.

17E, saindo os homens da cidade, e pelejando com Joabe, caíram alguns do povo, dos servos de Davi; e morreu também Urias, o heteu.

17And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell {some} of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

18Então enviou Joabe, e fez saber a Davi todo o sucesso daquela peleja.

18Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

19E deu ordem ao mensageiro, dizendo: Acabando tu de contar ao rei todo o sucesso desta peleja,

19And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,

20E sucedendo que o rei se encolerize, e te diga: Por que vos chegastes tão perto da cidade a pelejar? Não sabíeis vós que haviam de atirar do muro?

20And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

21Quem feriu a Abimeleque, filho de Jerubesete? Não lançou uma mulher sobre ele do muro um pedaço de uma mó corredora, de que morreu em Tebes? Por que vos chegastes ao muro? Então dirás: Também morreu teu servo Urias, o heteu.

21Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. {Jerubbesheth: also called, Jerubbaal}

22E foi o mensageiro, e entrou, e fez saber a Davi tudo o que Joabe o enviara a dizer.

22So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.

23E disse o mensageiro a Davi: Na verdade que mais poderosos foram aqueles homens do que nós, e saíram a nós ao campo; porém nós fomos contra eles, até à entrada da porta.

23And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.

24Então os flecheiros atiraram contra os teus servos desde o alto do muro, e morreram alguns dos servos do rei; e também morreu o teu servo Urias, o heteu.

24And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and {some} of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

25E disse Davi ao mensageiro: Assim dirás a Joabe: Não te pareça isto mal aos teus olhos; pois a espada tanto consome este como aquele; esforça a tua peleja contra a cidade, e a derrota; esforça-o tu assim.

25Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him. {displease...: Heb. be evil in thine eyes} {one...: Heb. so and such}

26Ouvindo, pois, a mulher de Urias que seu marido era morto, lamentou a seu senhor.

26And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

27E, passado o luto, enviou Davi, e a recolheu em sua casa, e lhe foi por mulher, e deu-lhe à luz um filho. Porém esta coisa que Davi fez pareceu mal aos olhos do Senhor.

27And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD. {displeased: Heb. was evil in the eyes of}
