2 Crônicas 20

1E sucedeu que, depois disto, os filhos de Moabe, e os filhos de Amom, e com eles outros dos amonitas, vieram à peleja contra Jeosafá.

1It came to pass after this also, {that} the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them {other} beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2Então vieram alguns que avisaram a Jeosafá, dizendo: Vem contra ti uma grande multidão dalém do mar e da Síria; e eis que já estão em Hazazom-Tamar, que é En-Gedi.

2Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they {be} in Hazazontamar, which {is} Engedi.

3Então Jeosafá temeu, e pôs-se a buscar o Senhor, e apregoou jejum em todo o Judá.

3And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. {himself: Heb. his face}

4E Judá se ajuntou, para pedir socorro ao Senhor; também de todas as cidades de Judá vieram para buscar ao Senhor.

4And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask {help} of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

5E pôs-se Jeosafá em pé na congregação de Judá e de Jerusalém, na casa do Senhor, diante do pátio novo.

5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

6E disse: Ah! Senhor Deus de nossos pais, porventura não és tu Deus nos céus? Não és tu que dominas sobre todos os reinos das nações? Na tua mão há força e potência, e não há quem te possa resistir.

6And said, O LORD God of our fathers, {art} not thou God in heaven? and rulest {not} thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand {is there not} power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

7Porventura, ó nosso Deus, não lançaste fora os moradores desta terra de diante do teu povo Israel, e não a deste para sempre à descendência de Abraão, teu amigo?

7{Art} not thou our God, {who} didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? {who: Heb. thou}

8E habitaram nela e edificaram-te nela um santuário ao teu nome, dizendo:

8And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

9Se algum mal nos sobrevier, espada, juízo, peste, ou fome, nós nos apresentaremos diante desta casa e diante de ti, pois teu nome está nesta casa, e clamaremos a ti na nossa angústia, e tu nos ouvirás e livrarás.

9If, {when} evil cometh upon us, {as} the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name {is} in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

10Agora, pois, eis que os filhos de Amom, e de Moabe e os das montanhas de Seir, pelos quais não permitiste passar a Israel, quando vinham da terra do Egito, mas deles se desviaram e não os destruíram,

10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

11Eis que nos dão o pago, vindo para lançar-nos fora da tua herança, que nos fizeste herdar.

11Behold, {I say, how} they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

12Ah! nosso Deus, porventura não os julgarás? Porque em nós não há força perante esta grande multidão que vem contra nós, e não sabemos o que faremos; porém os nossos olhos estão postos em ti.

12O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes {are} upon thee.

13E todo o Judá estava em pé perante o Senhor, como também as suas crianças, as suas mulheres, e os seus filhos.

13And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

14Então veio o Espírito do Senhor, no meio da congregação, sobre Jaaziel, filho de Zacarias, filho de Benaia, filho de Jeiel, filho de Matanias, levita, dos filhos de Asafe,

14Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

15E disse: Dai ouvidos todo o Judá, e vós, moradores de Jerusalém, e tu, ó rei Jeosafá; assim o Senhor vos diz: Não temais, nem vos assusteis por causa desta grande multidão; pois a peleja não é vossa, mas de Deus.

15And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle {is} not yours, but God's.

16Amanhã descereis contra eles; eis que sobem pela ladeira de Ziz, e os achareis no fim do vale, diante do deserto de Jeruel.

16To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. {cliff: Heb. ascent} {brook: or, valley}

17Nesta batalha não tereis que pelejar; postai-vos, ficai parados, e vede a salvação do Senhor para convosco, ó Judá e Jerusalém. Não temais, nem vos assusteis; amanhã saí-lhes ao encontro, porque o Senhor será convosco.

17Ye shall not {need} to fight in this {battle}: set yourselves, stand ye {still}, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD {will be} with you.

18Então Jeosafá se prostrou com o rosto em terra, e todo o Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém se lançaram perante o Senhor, adorando-o.

18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with {his} face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

19E levantaram-se os levitas, dos filhos dos coatitas, e dos filhos dos coratitas, para louvarem ao Senhor Deus de Israel, com voz muito alta.

19And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20E pela manhã cedo se levantaram e saíram ao deserto de Tecoa; e, ao saírem, Jeosafá pôs-se em pé, e disse: Ouvi-me, ó Judá, e vós, moradores de Jerusalém: Crede no Senhor vosso Deus, e estareis seguros; crede nos seus profetas, e prosperareis;

20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21E aconselhou-se com o povo, e ordenou cantores para o Senhor, que louvassem à Majestade santa, saindo diante dos armados, e dizendo: Louvai ao Senhor porque a sua benignidade dura para sempre.

21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy {endureth} for ever. {that...: Heb. praisers}

22E, quando começaram a cantar e a dar louvores, o Senhor pôs emboscadas contra os filhos de Amom e de Moabe e os das montanhas de Seir, que vieram contra Judá, e foram desbaratados.

22And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. {And when...: Heb. And in the time that they, etc} {to sing...: Heb. in singing and praise} {they were...: or, they smote one another}

23Porque os filhos de Amom e de Moabe se levantaram contra os moradores das montanhas de Seir, para os destruir e exterminar; e, acabando eles com os moradores de Seir, ajudaram uns aos outros a destruir-se.

23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy {them}: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. {to destroy: Heb. for the destruction}

24Nisso chegou Judá à atalaia do deserto; e olharam para a multidão, e eis que eram corpos mortos, que jaziam em terra, e nenhum escapou.

24And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they {were} dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. {none...: Heb. there was not an escaping}

25E vieram Jeosafá e o seu povo para saquear os seus despojos, e acharam entre eles riquezas e cadáveres em abundância, assim como objetos preciosos; e tomaram para si tanto, que não podiam levar; e três dias saquearam o despojo, porque era muito.

25And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

26E ao quarto dia se ajuntaram no vale de Beraca; pois ali louvaram ao Senhor. Por isso chamaram aquele lugar o vale de Beraca, até ao dia de hoje.

26And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day. {Berachah: that is, blessing}

27Então voltaram todos os homens de Judá e de Jerusalém, e Jeosafá à frente deles, e tornaram a Jerusalém com alegria; porque o Senhor os alegrara sobre os seus inimigos.

27Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. {forefront: Heb. head}

28E vieram a Jerusalém com saltérios, com harpas e com trombetas, para a casa do Senhor.

28And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

29E veio o temor de Deus sobre todos os reinos daquelas terras, ouvindo eles que o Senhor havia pelejado contra os inimigos de Israel.

29And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of {those} countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

30E o reino de Jeosafá ficou quieto; e o seu Deus lhe deu repouso ao redor.

30So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

31E Jeosafá reinou sobre Judá; era da idade de trinta e cinco anos quando começou a reinar e vinte e cinco anos reinou em Jerusalém; e o nome de sua mãe era Azuba, filha de Sili.

31And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: {he was} thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name {was} Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

32E andou no caminho de Asa, seu pai, e não se desviou dele, fazendo o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor.

32And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD.

33Contudo os altos não foram tirados porque o povo não tinha ainda disposto o seu coração para com o Deus de seus pais.

33Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

34Ora, o restante dos atos de Jeosafá, assim, desde os primeiros até os últimos, eis que está escrito nas notas de Jeú, filho de Hanani, que as inseriu no livro dos reis de Israel.

34Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they {are} written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who {is} mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel. {book of Jehu: Heb. words, etc} {is mentioned: Heb. was made to ascend}

35Porém, depois disto, Jeosafá, rei de Judá, se aliou com Acazias, rei de Israel, que procedeu com toda a impiedade.

35And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

36E aliou-se com ele, para fazerem navios que fossem a Társis; e fizeram os navios em Eziom-Geber.

36And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.

37Porém Eliezer, filho de Dodava, de Maressa, profetizou contra Jeosafá, dizendo: Porquanto te aliaste com Acazias, o Senhor despedaçou as tuas obras. E os navios se quebraram, e não puderam ir a Társis.

37Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
