2 Crônicas 10

1E foi Roboão a Siquém, porque todo o Israel se reunira ali, para fazê-lo rei.

1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

2Sucedeu que, ouvindo-o Jero-boão, filho de Nebate (o qual estava então no Egito para onde fugira da presença do rei Salomão), voltou do Egito,

2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who {was} in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard {it}, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

3Porque enviaram a ele, e o chamaram; e vieram, Jeroboão e todo o Israel, e falaram a Roboão dizendo:

3And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

4Teu pai fez duro o nosso jugo; agora, pois, alivia tu a dura servidão de teu pai, e o pesado jugo que nos impôs, e nós te serviremos.

4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5E ele lhes disse: Daqui a três dias voltai a mim. Então o povo se foi.

5And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

6E tomou Roboão conselho com os anciãos, que estiveram perante Salomão seu pai, enquanto viveu, dizendo: Como aconselhais vós que se responda a este povo?

6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye {me} to return answer to this people?

7E eles lhe falaram, dizendo: Se te fizeres benigno e afável para com este povo, e lhes falares boas palavras, todos os dias serão teus servos.

7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

8Porém ele deixou o conselho que os anciãos lhe deram; e tomou conselho com os jovens, que haviam crescido com ele, e estavam perante ele.

8But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

9E disse-lhes: Que aconselhais vós, que respondamos a este povo, que me falou, dizendo: Alivia o jugo que teu pai nos impôs?

9And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

10E os jovens, que com ele haviam crescido, lhe falaram, dizendo: Assim dirás a este povo, que te falou: Teu pai agravou o nosso jugo, tu porém alivia-nos; assim, pois, lhe falarás: O meu dedo mínimo é mais grosso do que os lombos de meu pai.

10And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou {it} somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little {finger} shall be thicker than my father's loins.

11Assim que, se meu pai vos carregou de um jugo pesado, eu ainda aumentarei o vosso jugo; meu pai vos castigou com açoites, porém eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.

11For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I {will chastise you} with scorpions. {my father put: Heb. my father laded}

12Veio, pois, Jeroboão, e todo o povo, ao terceiro dia, a Roboão, como o rei havia ordenado, dizendo: Voltai a mim ao terceiro dia.

12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

13E o rei lhes respondeu asperamente; porque o rei Roboão deixara o conselho dos anciãos.

13And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

14E falou-lhes conforme o conselho dos jovens, dizendo: Meu pai agravou o vosso jugo, porém eu o aumentarei mais; meu pai vos castigou com açoites, porém eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.

14And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I {will chastise you} with scorpions.

15Assim o rei não deu ouvidos ao povo, porque esta mudança vinha de Deus, para que o Senhor confirmasse a sua palavra, a qual falara pelo ministério de Aías, o silonita, a Jeroboão, filho de Nebate.

15So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16Vendo, pois, todo o Israel, que o rei não lhe dava ouvidos, tornou-lhe o povo a responder, dizendo: Que parte temos nós com Davi? Já não temos herança no filho de Jessé. Cada um à sua tenda, ó Israel! Olha agora pela tua casa, ó Davi. Assim todo o Israel se foi para as suas tendas.

16And when all Israel {saw} that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and {we have} none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: {and} now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

17Porém, quanto aos filhos de Israel, que habitavam nas cidades de Judá, sobre eles reinou Roboão.

17But {as for} the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18Então o rei Roboão enviou a Hadorão, que tinha cargo dos tributos; porém os filhos de Israel o apedrejaram, e ele morreu. Então o rei Roboão se esforçou para subir ao seu carro, e fugiu para Jerusalém.

18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that {was} over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to {his} chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. {made speed: Heb. strengthened himself}

19Assim se rebelaram os israelitas contra a casa de Davi, até ao dia de hoje.

19And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
