2 Clemente 17

1Boa é a esmola como penitência do pecado. O jejum é melhor do que a oração, e a esmola melhor do que ambos.

1Good is almsgiving as penance for sin. Fasting is better than prayer, and almsgiving better than both.

2E o amor cobre multidão de pecados, mas a oração de boa consciência livra da morte.

2And love covers a multitude of sins, but prayer from a good conscience delivers from death.

3Bem-aventurado todo aquele que for achado cheio destas coisas, pois a esmola alivia o pecado.

3Blessed is everyone who is found full of these things, for almsgiving lightens sin.

4Arrependamo-nos, portanto, de todo o coração, para que nenhum de nós pereça pelo caminho.

4Let us repent, therefore, from the whole heart, that none of us may perish by the way.

5Porque se temos mandamentos de fazer também isto: afastar os ímpios dos ídolos e instruí-los.

5For if we have commandments to do also this: to turn the ungodly from idols and instruct them.

6Quanto mais uma alma que já conhece a Deus não deve perecer.

6How much more should a soul that already knows God not perish.

7Ajudemo-nos, portanto, uns aos outros, e também levantemos os fracos no que concerne ao bem.

7Let us therefore help one another, and also raise up the weak in what concerns the good.

8Para que todos nós sejamos salvos; e convertamo-nos e exortemo-nos uns aos outros.

8That we all may be saved; and let us convert and exhort one another.
