1E agora, meus irmãos, faço-vos saber que quando o inimigo cercou a cidade, os anjos do Altíssimo foram enviados e derrubaram as fortificações do forte muro e destruíram os firmes cantos de ferro, que não podiam ser arrancados.

1And now, my brethren, I make known unto you that when the enemy had surrounded the city, the angels of the Most High were sent, and they overthrew the fortifications of the strong wall, and they destroyed the firm iron corners, which could not be rooted out.

2Contudo, esconderam todos os vasos do santuário, para que o inimigo não se apoderasse deles.

2Nevertheless, they hid all the vessels of the sanctuary, lest the enemy should get possession of them.

3E depois de fazerem essas coisas, entregaram ao inimigo o muro derrubado, e a casa saqueada, e o templo incendiado, e o povo que foi vencido porque foi entregue, para que o inimigo não se vangloriasse e dissesse: “Assim, pela força, pudemos devastar até mesmo a casa do Altíssimo na guerra”.

3And when they had done these things, they delivered thereupon to the enemy the overthrown wall, and the plundered house, and the burnt temple, and the people who were overcome because they were delivered up, lest the enemy should boast and say: "Thus by force have we been able to lay waste even the house of the Most High in war."

4Seus irmãos também foram amarrados e levados para Babilônia, e os fizeram morar lá.

4Your brethren also have they bound and led away to Babylon, and have caused them to dwell there.

5Mas ficamos aqui, sendo muito poucos.

5But we have been left here, being very few.

6Esta é a tribulação sobre a qual escrevi para você.

6This is the tribulation about which I wrote to you.

7Pois certamente sei que a habitação de Sião vos deu consolação: na medida em que sabíamos que ela prosperou (sua consolação) foi maior do que a tribulação que suportastes ao ter que partir dela.

7For assuredly I know that the habitation of Zion gave you consolation : so far as ye knew that it was prospered (your consolation) was greater than the tribulation which ye endured in having to depart from it.
