2 Baruque 77

1E eu, Baruque, fui dali e fui até o povo, e os reuni, do maior ao menor, e disse-lhes:

1And I, Baruch, went thence and came to the people, and assembled them together from the greatest to the least, and said unto them:

2“Ouvi, filhos de Israel, eis quantos sois os que restam das doze tribos de Israel.

2"Hear, ye children of Israel, behold how many ye are who remain of the twelve tribes of Israel.

3Pois a vocês e a seus pais o Senhor deu uma lei que ultrapassa os povos.

3For to you and to your fathers the Lord gave a law beyond peoples.

4E porque vossos irmãos transgrediram os mandamentos do Altíssimo, Ele trouxe vingança sobre vós e sobre eles, e não poupou os primeiros, e também entregou os últimos ao cativeiro, e não deixou nenhum resíduo deles,

4And because your brethren transgressed the commandments of the Most High, He brought vengeance upon you and upon them, and He spared not the former, and the latter also He gave into captivity, and left not a residue of them,

5Mas eis! você está aqui comigo.

5But behold! ye are here with me.

6Se, portanto, dirigirdes corretamente os vossos caminhos, também não vos afastareis como partiram vossos irmãos, mas eles virão a vós.

6If, therefore, ye direct your ways aright, ye also shall not depart as your brethren departed, but they will come to you.

7Pois Ele é misericordioso a quem vocês adoram, e Ele é misericordioso em quem vocês esperam, e Ele é verdadeiro, para que Ele (você) faça o bem e não o mal.

7For He is merciful whom ye worship, and He is gracious in whom ye hope, and He is true, so that He shall do (you) good and not evil.

8Veja! não vistes aqui o que aconteceu a Sião?

8Lo! have ye not seen here what has befallen Zion?

9Ou vocês por acaso pensam que o lugar pecou e que por causa disso foi derrubado, ou que a terra cometeu tolices e que, portanto, foi entregue?

9Or do ye perchance think that the place had sinned, and that on this account it was overthrown, or that the land had wrought foolishness, and that therefore it was delivered up?

10E não sabeis que por causa de vós que pecaram, aquele que não pecou foi derrubado, e, por causa daqueles que praticaram iniquidade, aquilo que não praticou tolice foi entregue a (seus) inimigos."

10And know ye not that on account of you who did sin, that which sinned not was overthrown, and, on account of those who wrought wickedly, that which wrought not foolishness was delivered up to (its) enemies."

11E todo o povo respondeu e disse-me: “Na medida em que podemos nos lembrar das coisas boas que o Poderoso nos fez, nós as lembramos; e aquelas coisas das quais não nos lembramos, Ele, em Sua misericórdia, sabe.

11And the whole people answered and said unto me: "So far as we can recall the good things which the Mighty One has done unto us, we do recall them; and those things which we do not remember He in His mercy knows.

12No entanto, faze isto por nós, teu povo: escreve também aos nossos irmãos na Babilônia uma epístola de doutrina e um livro de boas novas, para que também os confirmes antes de partires de nós.

12Nevertheless, do this for us thy people: write also to our brethren in Babylon an epistle of doctrine and a scroll of good tidings, that thou mayest confirm them also before thou dost depart from us.

13Porque os pastores de Israel pereceram, e as lâmpadas que iluminavam se apagaram, e as fontes retiveram o fluxo de onde costumávamos beber.

13For the shepherds of Israel have perished, and the lamps which gave light are extinguished, and the fountains have withheld their stream whence we used to drink.

14E ficamos na escuridão, e entre as árvores da floresta, e na sede do deserto."

14And we are left in the darkness, and amid the trees of the forest, and the thirst of the wilderness."

15E eu respondi e disse-lhes: “Pastores, lâmpadas e fontes vieram (para nós) da lei: e embora nos afastemos, ainda assim a lei permanece.

15And I answered and said unto them: "Shepherds and lamps and fountains came (to us) from the law: and though we depart, yet the law abideth.

16Se, portanto, respeitardes a lei e estiverdes empenhados na sabedoria, não faltará uma lâmpada, e um pastor não falhará, e uma fonte não secará.

16If therefore ye have respect to the law, and are intent upon wisdom, a lamp will not be wanting, and a shepherd will not fail, and a fountain will not dry up.

17Contudo, como me dissestes, escreverei também a vossos irmãos na Babilônia, e enviarei por meio de homens, e escreverei da mesma maneira às nove tribos e meia, e enviarei por meio de um pássaro.

17Nevertheless, as ye said unto me, I will write also unto your brethren in Babylon, and I will send by means of men, and I will write in like manner to the nine tribes and a half, and send by means of a bird."

18E aconteceu que, no vigésimo primeiro dia do oitavo mês, eu, Baruque, cheguei e sentei-me debaixo do carvalho, à sombra dos ramos, e não havia ninguém comigo, mas eu estava sozinho.

18And it came to pass on the one and twentieth day in the eighth month that I, Baruch, came and sat down under the oak under the shadow of the branches, and no man was with me, but I was alone.

19E escrevi estas duas epístolas: uma enviei por uma águia às nove tribos e meia; e o outro enviei aos que estavam em Babilônia por meio de três homens.

19And I wrote these two epistles: one I sent by an eagle to the nine and a half tribes; and the other I sent to those that were at Babylon by means of three men.

20E chamei a águia e disse-lhe estas palavras:

20And I called the eagle and spake these words unto it:

21“O Altíssimo te fez para que fosses mais elevado do que todas as aves.

21"The Most High hath made thee that thou shouldst be higher than all birds.

22E agora vá e não fique em (nenhum) lugar, nem entre em um ninho, nem se acomode em nenhuma árvore, até que você tenha passado pela largura das muitas águas do rio Eufrates, e tenha ido até o povo que ali habita, e entregue-lhes esta epístola.

22And now go and tarry not in (any) place, nor enter a nest, nor settle upon any tree, till thou hast passed over the breadth of the many waters of the river Euphrates, and hast gone to the people that dwell there, and cast down to them this epistle.

23Lembre-se, além disso, que, na época do dilúvio, Noé recebeu de uma pomba o fruto da oliveira, quando o enviou da arca.

23Remember, moreover, that, at the time of the deluge, Noah received from a dove the fruit of the olive, when he sent it forth from the ark.

24Sim, também os corvos ministraram a Elias, levando-lhe comida, como lhes havia sido ordenado. Salomão também, no tempo de seu reino, aonde quer que ele desejasse enviar ou procurar alguma coisa, ordenou a um pássaro (que fosse para lá), e ele o obedeceu como ele ordenou.

24Yea, also the ravens ministered to Elijah, bearing him food, as they had been commanded. Solomon also, in the time of his kingdom, whithersoever he wished to send or seek for anything, commanded a bird (to go thither), and it obeyed him as he commanded it.

25E agora não te canses, e não te vires para a direita nem para a esquerda, mas voa e segue por um caminho direto, para que possas preservar o comando do Poderoso, conforme eu te disse.

25And now let it not weary thee, and turn not to the right hand nor the left, but fly and go by a direct way, that thou mayst preserve the command of the Mighty One, according as I said unto thee."
