1E eu respondi e disse: “Quem pode compreender, ó Senhor, a Tua bondade?

1And I answered and said: "Who can understand, O Lord, Thy goodness? For it is incomprehensible.

2Ou quem pode sondar as tuas compaixões, que são infinitas?

2Or who can search into thy compassions, which are infinite?

3Ou quem pode compreender Tua inteligência?

3Or who can comprehend Thy intelligence?

4Ou quem é capaz de recontar os pensamentos da Tua mente?

4Or who is able to recount the thoughts of Thy mind?

5Ou quem dos que nasceram pode esperar chegar a essas coisas, a menos que seja alguém com quem Tu és misericordioso e gracioso?

5Or who of those who are born can hope to come to those things, unless he is one to whom Thou art merciful and gracious?

6Porque, se certamente Tu não tivesses compaixão do homem, aqueles que estão sob Tua mão direita, eles não poderiam chegar a essas coisas, mas aqueles que estão nos números mencionados podem ser chamados.

6Because, if assuredly Thou didst not have compassion on man, those who are under Thy right hand, they could not come to those things, but those who are in the numbers named can be called.

7Mas se, de fato, nós que existimos soubermos por que viemos e nos submetermos Àquele que nos tirou do Egito, voltaremos e nos lembraremos das coisas que passaram, e nos regozijaremos com o que aconteceu.

7But if, indeed, we who exist know wherefore we have come, and submit ourselves to Him who brought us out of Egypt, we shall come again and remember those things which have passed, and shall rejoice regarding that which has been.

8Mas se agora não sabemos por que viemos, e não reconhecemos o princípio Daquele que nos tirou do Egito, voltaremos e buscaremos as coisas que agora existem, e seremos entristecidos e com dor por causa das coisas que aconteceram.

8But if now we know not wherefore we have come, and recognise not the principate of Him who brought us up out of Egypt, we shall come again and seek after those things which were now, and be grieved with pain because of those things which have befallen."
