2 Baruque 6

1E aconteceu amanhã que, eis! o exército dos caldeus cercou a cidade e, à tarde, eu, Baruque, deixei o povo e saí e fiquei junto ao carvalho.

1And it came to pass on the morrow that, lo! the army of the Chaldees surrounded the city, and at the time of the evening I, Baruch, left the people, and I went forth and stood by the oak.

2E eu estava lamentando por Sião e lamentando o cativeiro que havia caído sobre o povo.

2And I was grieving over Zion, and lamenting over the captivity which had come upon the people.

3E eis! de repente, um espírito forte me elevou e me levou para cima do muro de Jerusalém.

3And lo! suddenly a strong spirit raised me, and bore me aloft over the wall of Jerusalem.

4E eu olhei, e eis! quatro anjos em pé nos quatro ângulos da cidade, cada um deles segurando uma lâmpada de fogo nas mãos.

4And I beheld, and lo! four angels standing at the four angles of the city, each of them holding a lamp of fire in his hands.

5E outro anjo começou a descer do céu e disse-lhes: 'Segurem as vossas lâmpadas e não as acendam até que eu vos diga.

5And another angel began to descend from heaven, and said unto them: 'Hold your lamps, and do not light them till I tell you.

6Pois fui enviado primeiro para falar uma palavra à terra e para colocar nela o que o Senhor Altíssimo me ordenou”.

6For I am first sent to speak a word to the earth, and to place in it what the Lord the Most High has commanded me."

7E eu o vi descer ao Santo dos Santos, e tirar dali o véu, e o santo éfode, e o propiciatório, e as duas mesas, e as vestes sagradas dos sacerdotes, e o altar do incenso, e as quarenta e oito pedras preciosas com que o sacerdote estava adornado, e todos os vasos sagrados do tabernáculo.

7And I saw him descend into the Holy of Holies, and take from thence the veil, and the holy ephod, and the mercy-seat, and the two tables, and the holy raiment of the priests, and the altar of incense, and the forty-eight precious stones, wherewith the priest was adorned, and all the holy vessels of the tabernacle.

8E ele falou à terra em alta voz: "Terra, terra, terra, ouça a palavra do Deus poderoso, e receba o que eu te confio, e guarde-os até os últimos tempos, para que, quando for ordenado, você possa restaurá-los, para que estranhos não possam tomar posse deles.

8And he spake to the earth with a loud voice: "Earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the mighty God, and receive what I commit to thee, and guard them until the last times, so that, when thou art ordered, thou mayst restore them, so that strangers may not get possession of them.

9Porque chegará o tempo em que Jerusalém também será libertada por um tempo, até que se diga que será novamente restaurada para sempre.

9For the time comes when Jerusalem also will be delivered for a time, until it is said, that it is again restored for ever.

10E a terra abriu a boca e os engoliu”.

10And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up."
