2 Baruque 48

1E aconteceu depois do sétimo dia que orei diante do Poderoso e disse:

1And it came to pass after the seventh day, that I prayed before the Mighty One and said:

2“Ó meu Senhor, Tu convocaste o advento dos tempos, e eles estão diante de Ti; Tu fazes com que o poder das eras passe, e eles não resistem a Ti; Tu organizaste o método das estações, e eles Te obedecem.

2"O my Lord, Thou summonest the advent of the times, and they stand before Thee; Thou causest the power of the ages to pass away, and they do not resist Thee; Thou arrangest the method of the seasons, and they obey Thee.

3Somente Tu conheces o objetivo das gerações e não revelas Teus mistérios a muitos.

3Thou alone knowest the goal of the generations, and Thou revealest not Thy mysteries to many.

4Tu fazes conhecer a multidão do fogo, e pesas a leveza do vento.

4Thou makest known the multitude of the fire, and Thou weighest the lightness of the wind.

5Tu exploras o limite das alturas e examinas as profundezas da escuridão.

5Thou explorest the limit of the heights, and Thou scrutinisest the depths of the darkness.

6Tu cuidas do número dos que morrem para que possam ser preservados. E preparas uma morada para aqueles que hão de existir.

6Thou carest for the number which pass away that they may be preserved And Thou preparest an abode for those that are to be.

7Tu te lembras do começo que fizeste, e da destruição que está por vir, não te esqueces.

7Thou rememberest the beginning which Thou hast made, and the destruction that is to be Thou forgettest not.

8Com acenos de medo e indignação Tu comandas as chamas, e elas se transformam em espíritos, e com uma palavra Tu vivificas aquilo que não existia, e com grande poder Tu seguras aquilo que ainda não veio.

8With nods of fear and indignation Thou commandest the flames, and they change into spirits, and with a word Thou quickenest that which was not, and with mighty power Thou holdest that which has not yet come.

9Tu instruis as coisas criadas na compreensão de Ti, e tornas sábias as esferas para ministrar em suas ordens.

9Thou instructest created things in the understanding of Thee, and Thou makest wise the spheres so as to minister in their orders.

10Exércitos inumeráveis ​​estão diante de Ti e ministram em suas ordens silenciosamente ao Teu aceno.

10Armies innumerable stand before Thee and minister in their orders quietly at Thy nod.

11Ouve Teu servo e dá ouvidos à minha petição.

11Hear Thy servant and give ear to my petition.

12Pois daqui a pouco nascemos, e daqui a pouco voltamos.

12For in a little time are we born, and in a little time do we return.

13Mas contigo as horas são como um tempo, e os dias como gerações.

13But with Thee hours are as a time, and days as generations.

14Não fique, portanto, irado com o homem; porque ele não é nada e não leva em conta as nossas obras;

14Be not therefore wroth with man; for he is nothing And take not account of our works;

15Para que somos? Pois eis! por Tua dádiva viemos ao mundo e não partimos por nossa própria vontade.

15For what are we? For lo! by Thy gift do we come into the world, and we depart not of our own will.

16Pois não dissemos a nossos pais: 'Gera-nos', nem enviamos ao Sheol e dissemos: 'Recebe-nos'.

16For we said not to our parents, 'Beget us,' nor did we send to Sheol and say, 'Receive us.'

17Qual é, portanto, a nossa força para suportarmos a Tua ira, ou o que somos nós para suportarmos o Teu julgamento?

17What therefore is our strength that we should bear Thy wrath, or what are we that we should endure Thy judgement?

18Proteja-nos em Tua compaixão e em Tua misericórdia ajude-nos.

18Protect us in Thy compassions, and in Thy mercy help us.

19Contempla os pequeninos que estão sujeitos a Ti e salva todos os que se aproximam de Ti, e não destruas a esperança de nosso povo, e não abrevias o tempo de nossa ajuda.

19Behold the little ones that are subject unto Thee, and save all that draw nigh unto Thee, and destroy not the hope of our people, and cut not short the times of our aid.

20Pois esta é a nação que escolheste, e este é o povo ao qual não encontras igual.

20For this is the nation which Thou hast chosen, and these are the people, to whom Thou findest no equal.

21Mas falarei agora diante de Ti e direi como meu coração pensa.

21But I will speak now before Thee, and I will say as my heart thinketh.

22Em Ti confiamos, pois eis! Tua lei está conosco, e sabemos que não cairemos enquanto guardarmos Teus estatutos.

22In Thee do we trust, for lo! Thy law is with us, and we know that we shall not fall so long as we keep Thy statutes.

23Pelo menos nisso somos sempre abençoados por não termos nos misturado com os gentios.

23In this at least we are always blest that we have not mingled with the Gentiles.

24Pois todos nós somos nomeados como um só povo, que recebemos uma lei de Um, e a lei que está entre nós nos ajudará, e a sabedoria suprema que está em nós nos ajudará.

24For we are all named one people, who have received one law from One, and the law which is amongst us will aid us, and the surpassing wisdom which is in us will help us."

25E quando orei e disse essas coisas, fiquei muito enfraquecido.

25And when I had prayed and said these things, I was greatly weakened.

26E Ele respondeu e disse-me: “Tu oraste simplesmente, ó Baruque, e todas as tuas palavras foram ouvidas.

26And He answered and said unto me: "Thou hast prayed simply, O Baruch, and all thy words have been heard.

27Mas o Meu julgamento exige o que lhe é próprio e a Minha lei exige os seus direitos.

27But My judgement exacts its own and My law exacts its rights.

28Porque pelas tuas palavras te responderei, e pela tua oração falarei contigo.

28For from thy words I will answer thee, and from thy prayer I will speak to thee.

29Pois isto é o seguinte: quem está corrompido não o é; ele praticou a iniqüidade na medida em que pôde fazer qualquer coisa, e não se lembrou da Minha bondade, nem aceitou a Minha longanimidade.

29For this is as follows: he that is corrupted is not at all; he has both wrought iniquity so far as he could do anything, and has not remembered My goodness, nor accepted My long-suffering.

30Portanto certamente serás elevado, como já te disse.

30Therefore thou shalt surely be taken up, as I before told thee.

31Pois surgirá um tempo que trará aflição; pois virá e passará com rápida veemência, e será turbulento vindo no calor da indignação.

31For that time shall arise which brings affliction; for it shall come and pass by with quick vehemence, and it will be turbulent coming in the heat of indignation.

32E acontecerá naqueles dias que todos os habitantes da terra serão movidos uns contra os outros, porque não sabem que Meu julgamento está próximo.

32And it shall come to pass in those days that all the inhabitants of the earth shall be moved one against another, because they know not that My judgement has drawn nigh.

33Pois não serão encontrados muitos sábios naquela época, e os inteligentes serão apenas alguns: além disso, mesmo aqueles que sabem ficarão mais calados.

33For there will not be found many wise at that time, and the intelligent will be but a few: moreover, even those who know will most of all be silent.

34E haverá muitos rumores e notícias, não poucos, e as obras de presságios serão manifestadas, e não poucas promessas serão contadas, e algumas delas (se mostrarão) inúteis, e algumas delas serão confirmadas.

34And there will be many rumours and tidings not a few, and the works of portents shall be manifest, and promises not a few be recounted, and some of them (will prove) idle, and some of them shall be confirmed.

35E a honra se transformará em vergonha, e a força humilhada em desprezo, e a probidade destruída, E a beleza se tornará um desprezo.

35And honour will be turned into shame, and strength humiliated into contempt, and probity destroyed, And beauty will become a scorn.

36E muitos dirão a muitos naquele momento: 'Onde se escondeu a multidão da inteligência e para onde se retirou a multidão da sabedoria?'

36And many will say to many at that time: 'Where hath the multitude of intelligence hidden itself, and whither hath the multitude of wisdom removed itself?'

37E enquanto eles estão meditando essas coisas, então o zelo surgirá naqueles em quem eles não pensavam, e a paixão se apoderará daquele que é pacífico, e muitos serão despertados pela raiva para ferir muitos, e eles levantarão exércitos para derramar sangue, e no final eles perecerão junto com eles.

37And whilst they are meditating these things, then zeal will arise in those of whom they thought not, and passion will seize him who is peaceful, and many shall be roused in anger to injure many, and they shall rouse up armies in order to shed blood, and in the end they shall perish together with them.

38E acontecerá ao mesmo tempo que uma mudança de tempos aparecerá manifestamente a cada homem, por causa da qual em todos aqueles tempos eles foram poluídos e praticaram a opressão, e andaram cada homem em suas próprias obras, e não se lembraram da lei do Poderoso.

38And it will come to pass at the self-same time, that a change of times shall manifestly appear to every man, by reason of which in all those times they were polluted and practised oppression, and walked every man in his own works, and remembered not the law of the Mighty One.

39Portanto um fogo consumirá seus pensamentos, e em chamas serão provadas as meditações de suas rédeas; pois o Juiz virá e não tardará.

39Therefore a fire shall consume their thoughts, and in flame shall the meditations of their reins be tried; for the Judge will come and will not tarry.

40Porque cada um dos habitantes da terra sabia quando estava cometendo iniqüidade, e eles não conheceram a Minha lei por causa do seu orgulho.

40Because each of the inhabitants of the earth knew when he was commiting iniquty, and they have not known My law by reason of their pride.

41Pois muitos certamente chorarão, sim, mais pelos vivos do que pelos mortos.

41For many will then assuredly weep, yea, over the living more than over the dead."

42E eu respondi e disse: “Ó Adão, o que fizeste a todos aqueles que nasceram de ti? e o que será dito à primeira Eva que deu ouvidos à serpente?

42And I answered and said: "O Adam, what hast thou done to all those who are born from thee? and what will be said to the first Eve who hearkened to the serpent?

43Porque toda esta multidão vai para a corrupção, e não há número daqueles que o fogo devora.

43For all this multitude are going to corruption, nor is there any numbering of those whom the fire devours.

44Mas novamente falarei em Tua presença.

44But again I will speak in Thy presence.

45Tu, ó Senhor, meu Senhor, sabes o que há em Tua criatura.

45Thou, O LORD, my Lord, knowest what is in Thy creature.

46Pois Tu ordenaste desde a antiguidade que o pó produzisse Adão, e Tu conheces o número daqueles que nasceram dele, e até que ponto eles pecaram diante de Ti, que existiram e não Te confessaram como seu Criador.

46For Thou didst of old command the dust to produce Adam, and Thou knowest the number of those who are born from him, and how far they have sinned before Thee, who have existed and not confessed Thee as their Creator.

47E no que diz respeito a tudo isso, o seu fim os condenará, e a Tua lei que eles transgrediram os recompensará no Teu dia. [

47And as regards all these their end shall convict them, and Thy law which they have transgressed shall requite them on Thy day. [

48Mas agora vamos despedir os ímpios e perguntar sobre os justos.

48But now let us dismiss the wicked and enquire about the righteous.

49E contarei a sua bem-aventurança e não me calarei na celebração da sua glória, que lhes está reservada.

49And I will recount their blessedness and not be silent in celebrating their glory, which is reserved for them.

50Pois certamente, assim como em um pouco de tempo neste mundo que passa, em que vocês vivem, vocês suportaram muito trabalho, assim naquele mundo que não há fim, vocês receberão grande luz.”]

50For assuredly as in a little time in this world which passeth away, in which ye live, ye have endured much labour, so in that world to which there is no end, ye shall receive great light."]
