1E eu disse: 'Ó Senhor, meu Senhor, vim ao mundo com este propósito para poder ver os males de minha mãe? não (assim) meu Senhor.

1And I said: 'O Lord, my Lord, have I come into the world for this purpose that I might see the evils of my mother? not (so) my Lord.

2Se encontrei graça aos Teus olhos, primeiro tome meu espírito para que eu possa ir para meus pais e não ver a destruição de minha mãe.

2If I have found grace in Thy sight, first take my spirit that I may go to my fathers and not behold the destruction of my mother.

3Pois duas coisas me constrangem veementemente: porque não posso resistir a Ti, e minha alma, além disso, não pode ver os males de minha mãe.

3For two things vehemently constrain me: for I cannot resist Thee, and my soul, moreover, cannot behold the evils of my mother.

4Mas uma coisa direi em Tua presença, ó Senhor.

4But one thing I will say in Thy presence, O Lord.

5O que, portanto, haverá depois destas coisas? pois se destruires a tua cidade e entregares a tua terra aos que nos odeiam, como será novamente lembrado o nome de Israel?

5What, therefore, will there be after these things? for if Thou destroyest Thy city, and deliverest up Thy land to those that hate us, how shall the name of Israel be again remembered?

6Ou como falar dos Teus louvores? ou a quem será explicado o que está na Tua lei?

6Or how shall one speak of Thy praises? or to whom shall that which is in Thy law be explained?

7Ou o mundo retornará à sua natureza (de antigamente) e a época retornará ao silêncio primitivo?

7Or shall the world return to its nature (of aforetime), and the age revert to primeval silence?

8E a multidão de almas será levada embora e a natureza do homem não será novamente nomeada?

8And shall the multitude of souls be taken away, and the nature of man not again be named?

9E onde está tudo o que disseste a Moisés a nosso respeito?'

9And where is all that which thou didst say to Moses regarding us?'
