2 Baruque 21

1E fui dali e sentei-me no vale de Cedron, em uma caverna da terra, e santifiquei minha alma ali, e não como pão, mas não tive fome, e não bebi água, mas não tive sede, e estive lá até o sétimo dia, como Ele me havia ordenado.

1And I went thence and sat in the valley of Cedron in a cave of the earth, and I sanctified my soul there, and I eat no bread, yet I was not hungry, and I drank no water, yet I thirsted not, and I was there till the seventh day, as He had commanded me.

2E depois cheguei ao lugar onde Ele havia falado comigo.

2And afterwards I came to that place where He had spoken with me.

3E aconteceu ao pôr do sol que minha alma pensou muito e comecei a falar na presença do Poderoso e disse:

3And it came to pass at sunset that my soul took much thought, and I began to speak in the presence of the Mighty One, and said:

4'Ó Tu que fizeste a terra, ouve-me, que fixaste o firmamento em sua plenitude, e firmaste a altura do céu pelo espírito, que chamaste desde o início do mundo aquilo que ainda não existia, e eles Te obedecem.

4'O Thou that hast made the earth, hear me, that hast fixed the firmament in its fulness, and hast made firm the height of the heaven by the spirit, that hast called from the beginning of the world that which did not yet exist, and they obey Thee.

5Tu que comandaste o ar pelo Teu aceno e viste as coisas que hão de ser como aquelas que Tu estás fazendo.

5Thou that hast commanded the air by Thy nod, and hast seen those things which are to be as those things which Thou art doing.

6Tu que governas com grande pensamento as hostes que estão diante de Ti: (sim) governas com indignação as santas criaturas vivas, que são inumeráveis, que Tu fizeste desde o princípio, de chama e fogo, que estão ao redor de Teu trono.

6Thou that rulest with great thought the hosts that stand before Thee: (yea) rulest with indignation the holy living creatures, who are without number, which Thou didst make from the beginning, of flame and fire, which stand around Thy throne.

7Somente a Ti pertence o fato de que faças imediatamente tudo o que desejares.

7To Thee only does this belong that Thou shouldst do forthwith whatsoever Thou dost wish.

8Quem faz com que as gotas de chuva chovam em número sobre a terra, e é o único que conhece a consumação dos tempos antes que eles cheguem; tenha respeito pela minha oração.

8Who causest the drops of rain to rain by number upon the earth, and alone knowest the consummation of the times before they come; have respect unto my prayer.

9Pois somente Tu és capaz de sustentar todos os que são, e aqueles que já faleceram, e aqueles que serão, aqueles que pecam, e aqueles que são justos [como vivos (e) indescritíveis].

9For Thou alone art able to sustain all who are, and those who have passed away, and those who are to be, those who sin, and those who are righteous [as living (and) being past finding out].

10Pois somente Tu vives imortal e indescritível, e conheces o número da humanidade.

10For Thou alone dost live immortal and past finding out, and knowest the number of mankind.

11E se com o tempo muitos pecaram, outros ainda foram justos.

11And if in time many have sinned, yet others not a few have been righteous.

12Tu sabes onde preservas o fim daqueles que pecaram, ou a consumação daqueles que foram justos.

12Thou knowest where Thou preservest the end of those who have sinned, or the consummation of those who have been righteous.

13Pois se existisse apenas esta vida, que aqui pertence a todos os homens, nada poderia ser mais amargo do que esta.

13For if there were this life only, which here belongs to all men, nothing could be more bitter than this.

14Pois de que adianta a força que se transforma em fraqueza, ou o alimento da abundância que se transforma em fome, ou a beleza que se transforma em algo odioso?

14For of what profit is strength that turns to weakness, or the food of plenty that turns to famine, or beauty that turns to a hateful (thing)?

15Pois a natureza do homem é sempre mutável.

15For the nature of man is always changeable.

16Pois desde o princípio nunca fomos o que somos agora, e o que somos agora não permaneceremos depois.

16For we have by no means been frm the beginning what we now are, and what we now are we shall not afterwards remain.

17Pois se uma consumação não tivesse sido preparada para todos, em vão teria sido o seu início.

17For if a consummation had not been prepared for all, in vain would have been their beginning.

18Mas sobre tudo o que provém de Ti, informa-me, e sobre tudo o que Te peço, ilumina-me.

18But regarding everything that comes from Thee, do Thou inform me, and regarding everything about which I ask Thee, do Thou enlighten me.

19Até quando permanecerá aquilo que é corruptível, e por quanto tempo prosperará o tempo dos mortais, e até quando aqueles que transgridem no mundo serão poluídos com muita maldade?

19How long will that which is corruptible remain, and how long will the time of mortals be prospered, and until what time will those who transgress in the world be polluted with much wickedness?

20Ordena, portanto, com misericórdia e cumpre tudo o que Tu disseste que trarias, para que Teu poder seja dado a conhecer àqueles que pensam que Tua longanimidade é fraqueza.

20Command therefore in mercy and accomplish all that Thou saidst Thou wouldst bring, that Thy might may be made known to those who think that Thy long-suffering is weakness.

21E mostre aos que não sabem, e deixe-os ver que isso aconteceu conosco e com a nossa cidade até agora tem sido de acordo com a longanimidade do Teu poder, porque por causa do Teu nome Tu nos chamaste de povo amado.

21And show to those who know not, and let them see that it has befallen us and our city until now has been according to the long-suffering of Thy power, because on account of Thy name Thou hast called us a beloved people.

22Toda natureza, portanto, daqui em diante é mortal.

22Every nature therefore from this onward is mortal.

23Repreenda, portanto, o anjo da morte, e deixe Tua glória aparecer, e deixe o poder de Tua beleza ser conhecido, e deixe o Sheol ser selado para que de agora em diante não possa receber os mortos, e deixe os tesouros das almas restaurarem aqueles que estão encerrados neles.

23Reprove therefore the angel of death, and let Thy glory appear, and let the might of Thy beauty be known, and let Sheol be sealed so that from this time forward it may not receive the dead, and let the treasuries of souls restore those which are enclosed in them.

24Pois já se passaram muitos anos como aqueles que estão desolados desde os dias de Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, e de todos aqueles que são como eles, que dormem na terra, por causa de quem disseste que criaste o mundo.

24For there have been many years like those that are desolate from the days of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and of all those who are like them, who sleep in the earth, on whose account Thou didst say that Thou hadst created the world.

25E agora mostre rapidamente Tua glória e não adie o que foi prometido por Ti.'

25And now quickly show Thy glory, and do not defer what has been promised by Thee.'

26E aconteceu que quando terminei as palavras desta oração, fiquei grandemente enfraquecido.

26And it came to pass that when I had completed the words of this prayer I was greatly weakened.
